Nathan
Year 2853 | Month 7 | Day 7
After making those rather abrupt plans, the two of us silently watch the screens without paying any attention to the VIPs around the VIP room who are constantly glancing at us. Clearly wanting to strike up a conversation but not knowing how.
On the screen, the two Warriors fight without any magic whatsoever. Which isn’t something I’m used to watching.
What’s more is that their clashing blades are sending actual shockwaves through the arena. And it’s really exciting the crowd watching them fight in the bleachers.
It’s not surprising at all how excited they are. These are two Sixth Stage Warriors, after all. People whose physical capabilities are sixty-four times that of regular humans.
A Sixth Stage Warrior could probably crush a human skull with one hand they’re so strong.
Which makes me wonder just how much damage a Seventh Stage Warrior can do. Or even a theoretical Eighth or Ninth Stage Warrior should one exist in the future.
I can’t imagine the damage a theoretical Ninth Stage Warrior could do, considering that they would be two hundred and fifty-six times as strong as a regular human.
Apparently Seventh Stage Warriors are still a more recent development, though, so Eighth Stage Warriors probably won’t be a thing for decades. Much less Ninth Stage Warriors.
Anyway, the battle continues raging on with the two warriors even sending sparks flying from their weapons along with the shockwaves. But what surprises me the most is just how durable their weapons are to be able to handle this type of combat.
My swords are quite durable as well, but I don’t think they would be able to handle a Sixth Stage Warrior repeatedly striking them. They are designed more for handling mana than combat, after all. Even if they’re also able to handle my own level of strength.
I purse my lips for a moment as I mentally add plans to research stronger materials to my list of development plans. Then I watch the rest of the battle as the two continue fighting surprisingly without getting any injuries.
They’re both perfectly even so far.
Maybe that’s part of why this battle is so entertaining.
“Gardner will be losing soon,” Ignitus suddenly says from his place next to me, making me glance at him for a moment before focusing on the screen again. And, sure enough, Valtair Gardner – a Sixth Stage Warrior from the Melcians – makes a mistake. Not a large one, but still a mistake that I can recognize.
The mistake is so small that it’s just his footing looking awkward and his grip on his weapon looking just as awkward. Nothing more.
And yet, it’s still enough that it completely turns the tide of the battle.
Rachel Richtier starts to push her advantage more and more, forcing Valtair into making more small mistakes as time goes on. With each mistake building on and increasing the frequency of the mistakes afterwards.
Eventually Rachel manages to get a strike in, piercing her spear through Valtair’s side.
The wound isn’t major, but it serves to slow him down even more than before. Which leads to him making even more mistakes and getting more wounds.
And it’s all downhill from there for him.
“How’d you know?” I ask out of curiosity.
Ignitus doesn’t take his gaze from the screen as he answers, “I trained both of them. Gardner has immense talent in the great sword, but he struggles when it comes to extended battles. Normally he would’ve taken down his opponent by now with his overwhelming strength, but Richtier is extremely fast and is using a much lighter weapon. She never gave him a chance and through that, managed to wear him down.”
He trained them? It’s no wonder he could guess the victor, then.
It wasn’t a guess but a direct judgment.
I focus on the screen again right as Richtier manages to pierce straight through a gap in his armor into his chest. At which point his medallion finally teleports him out of the arena.
“And that is it!!! Give a hand to our Warrior Champion of this Arcane Crown, Rachel Richtier!!!” Blade shouts, his voice echoing out through the audience. With the audience being just as loud if not louder upon hearing his words.
Blade begins to go into some detail about the battle before moving on to speak about the next plans for the tournament.
Meaning the Class S magician bracket that will be starting up in three days.
“Where will we be sparring?” I ask while focusing on the Seventh Stage Warrior, only to find him tapping away on his terminal.
Despite that, he answers right away, “If you don’t mind, we can spar at my personal training facility. I’ll take you there in a couple hours. I need to give feedback to both of those Sixth Stage Warriors, so let us meet back here then.”
This feels weird. I haven’t been spoken to by anyone in this way for quite a long time.
As if a teacher is talking to a student.
Even the skeleton and Juan don’t speak that way to me anymore.
Not that I really care much either way, at the end of the day.
I let out a brief sound in acknowledgment before glancing at the rest of the people in the room as Ignitus steps away. All to see if there’s anyone of interest to me in here to pass the time.
And if there’s not, I can always just study the code for my death mana absorption devices to look for problems while I’m waiting.
It doesn’t take long, though, before one person steps up to talk to me. Someone who wasn’t in the room until just now and only seems to have half-emerged. Considering that no one else seems capable of seeing him.
The man is wearing a thick cloak with a cowl over his head. One that is both black and white, just like his eyes, and seems to paint his surroundings in twilight.
Yet no one notices his presence still.
The Lord of Twilight.
Looks like he wants to speak with me.
