Nathan
Year 2853 | Month 7 | Day 7

I frown as I arrive at the VIP room to find it filled with numerous VIPs from different nations. Quite a few more than I was expecting.

Honestly, when I was asked to come see the finals for the Warriors brackets in person, I was only expecting a few people. But nope. This is far more than just a few.

I look around for a moment to find a lot of VIPs in the room looking at me. Most of whom are royals, councilors, or other delegates from major nations.

There doesn’t seem to be even a single leader or important person from any of the minor nations.

Only major ones.

Or, at least, I assume that until I see some minor nation leaders entering after me. With those being leaders of the nations some of the previous bracket champions are from.

That’s probably why they’re here.

Anyway, my gaze locks onto the corner of the room, where I find the person who invited me here. Someone I’m rather curious about. Enough that I accepted the invite.

Although if I knew there would be this many people here, I might not have accepted it so quickly.

Still. I’m here, so I might as well meet him.

I ignore the other VIPs in the room as I walk straight to where the man is.

The Seventh Stage Warrior of the Empire.

Ignitus Demertius.

Apparently he does actually plan on participating in the tournament. He just isn’t participating in the Warrior brackets.

He’s participating in the Class S magician brackets.

I didn’t notice before since I didn’t know his name, and it wasn’t specifically mentioned otherwise either. Plus he was introduced as a special guest during the Warrior bracket introduction.

The man is still covered from head to toe in weapons despite being in a VIP room filled with important delegates and royals from hundreds of nations. And no one seems to mind the fact that he’s strongly armed here.

Then again, no one cares that I have swords either, even with the anti-magic measures around the VIP room to block any spells. Probably because Class SS magicians can completely bypass those anti-magic measures anyway, so they’re treating the two of us like Class SS magicians.

No one else here has any weapons on them, after all.

Only the two of us.

Plus both of us are far stronger physically than them, so it doesn’t really change much. We’re just as big a threat without our weapons as we are with them. Him because of his enormous strength, and me because of both my strength and my claws that I can but rarely ever extend.

So they probably just ignore our weapons since it doesn’t change anything, and trying to confiscate them would just be an insult to us.

Or at least, that’s my assumption.

Anyway, Ignitus turns to look at me when I get close. Then he raises his glass of wine towards me in greeting before looking at the screens again.

I step up next to him before placing one hand on my right sword’s pommel and the other in my pocket as I look up at the screens as well. Where I find the finals just now starting for the final Warriors bracket.

“Is this your first time watching Warriors fight?” Ignitus asks before taking a sip of wine.

I nod my head as I answer, “Yes.”

Until now, I was a little too focused on my experiments and forgot about the bracket entirely. Which is a little awkward, but it’s fine.

At least I left an alarm to remind me about my own bracket. If it weren’t for Ignitus contacting me, I probably wouldn’t have left my lab before that alarm.

I can’t help but think about the experiment I was in the middle of. It was probably one of the closest experiments I’ve managed to conduct lately to reaching my goal of making a device that uses ambient death mana as a power source.

Unfortunately, it still failed in the end.

It wasn’t a complete failure, though. I at least figured out a couple clues for a new direction to go in.

A couple of the circuits in the device showed signs of attracting the ambient mana after all. And one of them even absorbed the mana, albeit in low amounts.

Regardless of success, it was a breakthrough. Which is what matters.

I narrow my eyes at the screen when the two Warriors rush at each other and clash over and over again with different bladed weapons. One of which is using a spear and the other a great sword.

Their movements are far beyond what normal humans should ever be able to do. In fact, they’re faster and stronger than me despite my being a vampire.

Then again, even Fifth Stage Warriors are faster and stronger than me.

Still. I’m not used to seeing other people stronger and faster than me physically.

I did at least glance at the first bracket of the Warriors part of the tournament at the start of my experiments, but I didn’t watch for long since it was pretty boring. But these Sixth Stage Warriors are a lot more interesting to watch.

“I’ve seen your battles before,” Ignitus says, making me glance at him for a moment. “It looks like you haven’t spent much time training in the sword within the past year. Your swordplay seemed a bit rusty.”

“And?” I ask while narrowing my eyes at him.

That’s a little rude to point out. Even if it’s true.

“Would you like to spend some time sparring with me before the tournament?” the Seventh Stage Warrior asks, surprising me for a moment. “I would like to train you in as many weapons as possible to see what the limits of weapon close combat are. There’s no better way to see those limits than to train an immortal.”

Oh. That’s why.

Although…

“If you want to see the limits based on the fact that I’ll never die and will continue getting better forever, isn’t that pointless?” I ask with a frown. “You’ll be long dead before I reach those theoretical limits.”

“That matters not,” Ignitus says without hesitation. “As long as you reach those limits, that’s all that matters.”

Oh. So it’s not about seeing the limits reached, but having someone reach those limits in the first place.

Might as well.

“Very well,” I answer him with a nod.

“Then let us meet in three hours, after this match,” Ignitus declares, seemingly going at his own pace considering how quickly he decided the time. A very close time to now at that.

I turn to focus on the screen again.

This guy really does go at his own pace as I’ve heard…
