Original piece, actually a repaint of an old piece I painted of Maksim. If you're from back when I didn't have very much attention on my work you might remember it lol!

You might remember this portrait below I painted a few weeks ago of my dear Maksim. He's a doctor who has been through a lot for a vampire (and that's saying something lol), and is tragically eternally quite unwell. His vampirism was self-inflicted in order to cure a terminal illness back when he was human, but the blasphemous act of forcing it left him quite cursed.

I'm looking to start a project that's web-based using my characters though it's going to take me some time to get my bearings with it. Interactive blogs/pages/stories that I update regularly. I feel like the visual novel format was just not right for the story I wanted to tell with them which was a project I sunk a lot of work into before dumping it. Luckily, I think the work I did on the plot will help a lot moving forward. I am going to try and make time for this project this year even if it flops horribly, as I really want to just say fuck it and CREATE something out in the world that's just all mine.

Please expect my personal project pieces to be a bit nastier/more adult than you might be used to. I'm considering adding a warning to my Patreon as there might be some nudity as well going forward with my characters and I don't really have a way to warn for triggers on this platform. I'm hoping that adding a warning in the title will help for email folks. I don't even know what people find offensive to look at anymore, I know I'm kind of oldfashioned AND I'm desensitized a bit.

Apologies if this jumpscares anyone, my husband thinks this piece is nasty lol.

Extra sorry if this seems like I'm turning it into a blog, I have no idea what people expect from my posts! I don't even know what people want to know about my characters and I don't want to come off as a narcissist. Feel free to ask any questions if you do happen to be curious, my vampires are quite weird and Maksim in particular is a rather abnormal vampire.

I hope you all are well, and you have a chance and the energy to make That Thing you've always wanted.

I love vampire the masquerade and anything even slightly adjacent makes my brain happy.

Maya

I remember the original piece you did of this and this is such a beautiful reimagining of it! This is right up my alley and I'm very excited to see the darker and more grim and gory pieces you come up with! 🖤 Also very excited to see more of your darling vampires and Olive. 👀

feyspeaker

Thank you so much, Maxwell!! I have such a love for gritty grimy horror, it's quite a contrast from a lot of the more fantasy stuff I've been doing lately haha. I hope to share more soon, his past I can definitely talk about but I'm trying to figure out how I want to deliver story info...

Xiren

This turned out gorgeous ❤️

feyspeaker

Thank you for sticking around so long, Maya. ♥♥ Olive is so so overdue for a portrait. She's so integral to the whole thing that I'm terrified of screwing her up lol. She has to be just right.

LavastormSW

Ooooh I love this a lot! Looking forward to what you produce in the future if it's along these lines~ ❤️

Maya

Thank you for having me this long! It's been wonderful to see how much you've grown. 🖤🖤And I'm sure she'll look absolutely stunning in your new style! 🖤

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!! And yes, each of my vamps are quite twisted critters haha

leviathan

Do you know if prints of this piece will be available to order?

Zombrigit

Oh I love this piece as a former VtM LARPer I love seeing people’s vampire OCs ❤️❤️❤️ I also have a soft spot for the gruesome 😊

Rebecca Custer

Honestly this piece is everything. As a Drukhari Enjoyer it's up my alley in every way.

Blodreina

Oh this is stunning! The scars, the glow of the eyes, the defeated look on his face. The detail with the tools and oh those Clawed hands are so good. I love horror in all forms so I can't wait to see more!

D'Artagnan Wayland

The attention to detail is outstanding as usual and I look forward to seeing where it goes, I'm always excited to see your characters =3

Duskrose

Oh, this piece is glorious. Just between this and the previous portrait, he looks likes such a fascinating character, and I sincerely look forward to what more you might share about him.

Panicat

What a haunting piece! I’d love to know the story behind it? Please continue to share everything you feel like sharing! The warning in the title works well for me.

The way you do faces and expressions is so amazing. Your talent makes my head spin sometimes 💕

cryptid

ooohhh this is so gorgeous! i love the lighting and composition. 😍 i would be very interested in his story! also i’m just a huge fan of vampires in general lol.

feyspeaker

omg no way!! I'd love to hear about your experience LARPing, I've always wanted to go to a VtM event but I don't know, I think I missed the best era for it. (thank you!!)

feyspeaker

Thank you!! Haha, I know nothing about Warhammer but I do have Rogue Trader ready to play soon because I saw that hot Drukhari companion and I need to make him mine lmao

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!!! He typically keeps his claws trimmed every day so he can wear gloves but he's a bit uh, disheveled here lmao

feyspeaker

Thank you, I always appreciate you taking the time to leave comments. ♥♥♥

feyspeaker

Thank you!!! A lot of my characters have gone through several iterations but Maksim is one who has stayed very constant visually. It's been nice to dedicate some time to painting him properly after all this time.

feyspeaker

Thank you!! It's more metaphorical really, but Maksim is always having to do maintenance on his health in order to keep functioning. A vampire with a laundry list of chronic (and deadly if he were still human) health problems. Olive is the woman whose hands are in the piece, and she's kind of trying to help him through things despite being a wreck herself. He is quite stoic and a loner so it takes a lot for him to open up to her, but she ends up digging her way into his heart. :P

feyspeaker

Oh gosh, thank you. Maksim usually wears a full mask+glasses but it's my own fault for creating a masked character and never wanting to paint him in it. I swear I'll work up the nerve to cover his face up here eventually haha. I do admit I'm a sucker for painting expressions. I have a hard time expressing the emotion of a piece without the face visible... I want to challenge myself to push more expression through the gesture but man I just love faces haha.

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!!! Vampires are the best. I love how versatile they are.

Zombrigit

Honestly it was a ton of fun and I made a lot of friends through it, the game I was in was actually part of One World By Night which is an international group of games that have a shared storyline and you can interact and RP with other games via email. I stopped playing just before the pandemic so I don't know how active things are at the moment, as far as in person games go, but I'm sure the email RP is still going strong. You should totally see if there's any groups near you, in my experience they're always welcoming to fresh blood (heh) OWBN also has several annual meetups that are essentially mini conventions that are also in character events unfortunately I never got a chance to go to any of those but from what I hear they were really cool. Anyway I'm always happy to answer any questions about it.

jmaeq

I'm coming back to say that this is absolutely phenomenal. I'm so down to see the nastier/gorier stuff from you! Your artwork makes the gore so mesmerizing, and I cannot wait to learn more about your awesome characters. Thank you for sharing them with us!! 🥰🥰

feyspeaker

Thank you!!!! My vampire characters are an outlet for all of my aesthetic guilty pleasures- found footage horror and 90s goth and grunge haha so it's a lot of fun painting them. I paint a lot of fantasy stuff but to be honest I'm so captivated by illustrating more contemporary stuff.

Toast

This is incredible! I've stared so many times since you posted! I wanted to leave a little message because I saw your other post about wanting to move towards more original art and (not to be THAT snooty person who's like *ooh I'm still here aren't I special!*), I know that I and quite a few others will definitely be sticking around. I mean, hell, LOOK at that! The anatomy, the detail, the whole background info of that OC! I love the way you've done the ribs so accurately through skin and open bone, the veins, the ring on the other person's finger, the marks and scars on their arms too... gorey gorey, pish haha. There's an incredible beauty in all your art, but specifically in this one, the way in which it confronts us as viewers---the discomfort, the pain, the tension and calm, even the memories of the kinetic rush behind all the pieces around them, the shirt beneath his body soaking drips of blood... this piece makes us experience so many emotions and feelings people don't generally seek out, and the way you've done it here is nothing short of exquisite. I wish I had the vocab to really do this piece justice, but I wanted to leave a little ramble anyway to attempt some sort of reply. I shall shut up now! Thank you so much for creating and sharing this with us! :D

ANak

This is absolutely gorgeous! The details, expression, anatomy, and just the small act of him holding on to the other's hand gives such depth to him as a character and I love it! As someone who love artistic gore (and really bad with real life gore), I'm so excited for what's to come!!

feyspeaker

OMG! People still do play-by-email?? I'm going to have to look this up, thank you for the suggestion!!! I found out that there used to be an insanely active VtM group near me (they had a whole in-character website with locations around the city) but they've since gone inactive and it bummed me out that I missed out. I've always wanted to go LARP but I'm such an anxious weirdo lol. What do you do if something gets awkward?? I'm sure there are instances where that happens, right??

feyspeaker

Thank you so much, your comment means more to me than I can articulate. Your analysis is so meaningful, ugh I feel limited by the confines of text. Thank you for getting it and thinking about it. I think it's the greatest gift ever as an artist to know there are people out there looking at and thinking about their work. ♥♥

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!!! I find myself yearning for vampire fiction to lean more into the horror while retaining the romance.

Zombrigit

oh for sure, it helps that most larpers are anxious weirdos themselves lol, but most of the time awkwardness or social faux pas can be handwaved with character stats. The etiquette skill is an absolute necessity, plus no one really expects you to have the otherworldly charisma your character might have.

FancyHatching

Fanart of characters you already know is naturally more emotionally accesible but I gotta say; Maksim, this piece in particular, really made me want to know everything there is to know about him and this scene. What's in the syringe? What does it do? Is he in pain? Who's that with him? How did he get there? Originally I also wondered what he is to be obviously (near) immortal but that got answered. So yeah whatever medium is gonna tell his story, I'm here to hear it.

feyspeaker

Thank you so much!! I do hope that my OC art in intriguing at least, so I appreciate the questions. Maksin suffers from a great deal of health conditions that were exacerbated by his turning into a vampire, though they can no longer kill him. It requires a lot of maintenance, and leaves him ostracized from other vampire society. It's all rather complicated but the character whose hands are visible are Olive's, who lives a very dangerous life as a human intertwined in vampire nonsense haha

FancyHatching

That's an interesting alternative to vampirism/immortality/being undead just making the affected immune to illness. Instead basically preserving the disease as part of the undead body? Is he based on VtM/WoD? I don't know much about it but I know it's not exactly glorifying vampirism either.
