Hey guys as promised, here is the vote for January's print theme! I'll be taking the winner of the poll by the 31st so I can get a sketch for you guys ASAP!

The overall theme is ♥ romance ♥! With flowers or angst or a little of both lol

Please forgive me I know I said I would have the Critical Role characters be Julien and Bolaire, but I feel like since the campaign hasn't switched to them yet I'd prefer to stick with the soldier's table! Trust me, I WILL paint them but I'd like to get to know them better!!

So for the Critical Role option I'm thinking a handsome wistful Kattigan piece, and Thimble maybe curled up in a dewy flower like she was when presented to Thjazi at his wedding OR Tyranny and Wick holding hands maybe.

For Astarion I'm thinking something atmospheric like the Mass Effect piece I just did paired with maybe a silhouetted fem Tav (so you can insert your own in your miiind haha) maybe a closeup of him feeding on blood for the mini

For Johnny Silverhand similar setup, something angsty I think haha, plus maybe an artsy closeup of his hand for the mini

I know Astarion is going to win again but I am still going to desperately hope one of the other options pulls through. We've already had Astarion so many times.

I understand- I definitely have to balance it a bit because I know that a lot of people here still really love Astarion. I have been trying to branch out more (and man I am hoping for a KILLER new RPG romance this year, pleaaaaaase) but I do lose a lot of support when I go too long without BG3 art, so it's a delicate balance. ;A;

I totally understand. As a cis straight woman I tend to naturally depict my personal experience/"preference" so that's where I come from- that's how I always play my RPGs. For romance pieces and just in general that's just where I tend to land since I'm kind of inserting myself in the atmosphere for a lot of my works. It may not seem like it but the majority of my pieces come from a very intimate/personal place for me. IDK if that makes sense, it's a delicate subject and it's hard to articulate tactfully in a comment, lol! I have seen some really awe inspiring depictions of Astarion in queer relationships and I'm sure those pieces are similarly coming from the artists' intimate places as well.

I do have some favorite straight pairings for sure, like FemShep and Garrus 😍 Ngl the way you painted Umbra and Strife made me go "this feels very female-gaze-y heeheehee" 😂 and also your adoration of Yenn like that portrait feels just 😍😍😍 also, your Abdirak/Astarion piece is just 🔥🌹 I'm bi and married to a pan man, and neither of us figured that out until after college lol, so I get that queer 'ship catharsis through my video games 😆 Anywho, I adore your work, and thank you for coming to my TED Talk haha

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's a real struggle to balance. Astarion is so utterly dominant that it feels impossible to get away from. I even tried blocking his name and all of his ship names just so I could see other BG3 fanart and I still somehow get at least half Astarion. He's a great character with a great design and an excellent story, he just also kinda sucks up all the oxygen in the room, to no one's fault.
