Morrigan - "The Reaping" August Print Club (Patreon)

Hi everyone!! I present to you think month's 8"x10" print for Print Club! (Mini print coming soon, in the WIP stages still)

Inspired by Morrigan's complex motivations (and I think to an extent somewhat self-destructive behavior perhaps). She is one of my favorite characters of all time. I have only painted her once before, and honestly for like a decade now I've felt like I wasn't technically skilled enough to do her justice. There is a lot of emotion there that I wanted to capture. She's a really hard character for me to illustrate for some reason, I think because she is so precious to me.

I did a really quick and dirty photobash mockup for a portrait I'll share below to kind of guide the vibes I wanted. I really love like dreamy weird early 2000's digital art, and I did kind of want a little of that to poke through. Maybe the era of video games that Morrigan comes from sort of peeking through the veil on this one. So I wanted to try at that for a concept piece before moving onto putting together the final.

I made this cool textured background that I ended up loving so much that I recycled it for some color and texture in the final if you can spot it. For some reason this project made me really nostalgic for Alice Madness Returns? Is that a viable Print Club theme some time?

I felt like the posing in the mockup was a little too vulnerable/glamour pose-y, too cutesy maybe. I love the feral side to Morrigan, down in the dirt and behaving like a creature, while also beautiful and classy. A complicated task to portray her well.

I am a really big fan of Claudia Black and I think that Morrigan would not have been the same without her gorgeous voice and how she just oozes cool.

And yes, the mini print is going to be called "The Sowing" lolThank you so much guys as always!!
