Part 1

The neighbor’s cat hunted and ate two squirrels today 😥

And no matter how sorry I feel for the squirrels - I can’t stay angry at the cat for long. Even if it’s not my cat.

Once again, the world reminds me that a world without cruelty does not exist.

You can run away from people. Go deep into the forest. Climb the highest mountain. You will still witness death, pain, survival and cruelty.

A few years ago, I would have said this with despair. Now… more with acceptance.

Because lately I keep seeing not “injustice”, but balance. The balance between good and evil. Strength and weakness. Pain and joy. Life and death. I still feel sorry for those squirrels. But the cat wasn’t evil. It was simply being a cat.

And maybe one of the hardest parts of growing up is stopping yourself from dividing the world into “good” and “bad”. And accepting that very often it is both beautiful and cruel at the same time.

So yeah.

That’s how my morning started today.

Hi Julia, congratulations on these wonderful photos and for sharing them! Regarding your comments about the incident between the cat and the squirrels, I understand what you're saying and feeling, but for once, and without setting a precedent, I disagree with some of your conclusions, which doesn't mean they're wrong... perhaps mine are. I believe the Universe isn't governed by the concepts of Good and Evil, which I don't think it even knows. These are "exclusively human" categories created by religions (morality) or philosophy (ethics) to make coexistence among us minimally viable. I don't think animals, plants, and everything that exists in the Universe know good and evil; they simply follow their survival instincts... they hunt and are hunted, they eat and are eaten... not out of malice, not out of hatred... simply to survive as a species. Even some of these animals, the scavengers, which have such a bad reputation, don't even kill; they wait for their "food" to die. Humans, on the other hand, supposedly the pinnacle of "creation" or evolution, cannot survive without morals or ethics that tell us what is right and wrong. And to make matters worse, these codes differ between cultures, religions, and so on. We need laws, punishments, prohibitions, etc., to try to live together peacefully, something that has almost never been achieved throughout history... there is no historical period without some armed conflict or war. This is probably because here evil is an active force and good is a passive one. We all know that one rotten apple in a basket of healthy apples ends up rotting them all, just like a cancerous cell with its neighbors. Goodness, however, is not contagious; it needs to be encouraged and requires external action. I could elaborate much further, but I believe what I've written is sufficient to explain my point of view, which is what leads me to disagree with your mention of accepting the balance between good and evil. This may hold true outside of humanity (although I maintain that the concepts of good and evil don't make much sense outside of it), but I believe we cannot accept this balance when referring to humans.

That’s actually a very interesting perspective, and honestly not one I had fully considered before. I think I still instinctively perceive humans as part of nature and part of the universe itself. So even if concepts like morality, good and evil are human inventions, they are still, in a way, inventions created by the universe through us - because we are also part of it. Which makes the whole thing even more complicated and fascinating))) But I really agree with your point, especially about the difference between nature acting through instinct and humans acting through conscious intention. Very beautiful thought. Thank you for sharing it)
