I saw an announcement by Analogue today talking about Open FPGA... I wonder if this means that they're finally going to open the platform to community developers.

I was wondering if you would be interested in getting my cores working on the Pocket too. Supporting a new platform on JTFRAME takes some work, so I don't want to do anything that you, my patrons, won't like.

Should I port my cores to the Pocket (provided they open it)?

Comments

Lucas Ortiz

Thanks for all your work for the Pocket!

Addison

I would love that!

Gray-Haired Gamer

I don't have a Pocket, but if more people get to experience and enjoy your work, I would support it. Just don't forget us MiSTer folks! LOL

David Ashby

Stick to MiSTer please. Analogue’s business practices are trash, and you shouldn’t trust them one bit.

phillai

OMG, yes please JOTEGO!! 🙏

Bruno Silva

no... maybe they have good products but i don't like how company does business/announcements .. also they don't sell in europe

Michael Anderson

I selfishly want things like CPS3 on MiSTer long before anything on pocket.

Tony Toon

Despite the resentments towards Pocket's less-than-stellar post-launch support, a portable FPGA system is still pretty darned neat to have out there and support. I don't own one but I'd not mind seeing you put in the work to get your cores running on it where possible. (Portable Golden Axe yes please)

Jose Marcos

I've voted "no" but I think it could be good down the road, maybe in the future. For the moment, I prefer to have as many cores as possible on the MiSTer.

Ethan Tabor

I own a Pocket, but I'm conflicted. While the OS software is "open", it's still owned by the company. Where the MISTer OS is owned by the community. I would imagine there will be a portable version of the MISTer at some point - but will the Analogue OS be completely open to put on any device? Ultimately if you do work for this company you really should get seriously paid for your efforts. The value in mapping this original hardware is astronomical. If you add all these games to that platform, who will benefit? Only Analogue will be selling more systems - will they pass on their profits to you?

emceebois

I would support it but I suspect the question is theoretical. I'm not expecting Analogue to live up to the claims that they're an open platform in any meaningful or ongoing way

Writing by James

I think MiSTer is the better use of your time personally!

Jeremy Hopkins

Selfishly, since I own an Analogue Pocket, I would like a portable version but if it's extra work, do what's easiest and manageable for you and your team. A portable, high quality CPS1/CPS2 option would be amazing if possible!

Allen Tipper

My preference is strongly no. Actively supporting a company that actively benefits scalpers through its release styles, especially when it takes time, effort, and money away from the scene on the actually open device, seems like a poor trade on all accounts.

Gillaxian

Please don’t support Analogue. They’re shady, and their business practices are horrible. They’re not worthy of your talents. Besides, supporting them will take time away from other great mister developments, like NGPC!

Ryan Ebert

The pocket is cool but I have no intent of buying one in the short term. I vote focus on mister

Mike Holzinger

I have a pocket let’s DO this! To date you would be the only the flat out only developer supporting pocket!

Bit2018

This is what I have been waiting for... I think the Pocket dev FPGA is also a Cyclone V. It would be amazing to have some MiSTer cores moved into the Analog Pocket!

Bit2018

Analog Pocket may become the portable MiSTer we all(?) would like to see. The cirtical issue is the very, very limited availability of the Analog Pocket

Themistocles

I drooled over it when it was first announced, then... Analogue happened. Screw them.

E John Feig

I've got a Pocket and would love to have your cores on that device. Really, the community cores are what I was most excited about with the Pocket, as I really wanted a portable FPGA system. I think that the best way to convince Analogue to open up more is to provide some high quality community cores. Analogue also has a big reach with the press, which could be helpful to both you and the MiSTer project.

Steve B.

I guess yes, unless it really distrupts the work for mister

hyp36rmax

Time permitting on your project schedule it’s a definite YES! Would much rather see the energy focused on your current projects at the moment.

RetroRGB

My strong, but split opinion is this: If it's easy, sure! Support for multiple platforms is something everyone can appreciate and you might increase your Patreon exposure by adding another gaming device to your list. Also, if Analogue makes it through the part shortage without raising the price too much - and consistently gets enough stock out for people to actually buy these things - then this will be an EXCELLENT portable FPGA device for an extremely fair price. BUT, don't forget the flip side (and this is to ALL FPGA devs, not just Jotego): Porting your cores means you're essentially working for Analogue, FOR FREE, to help boost sales of their device, that they're 100% in control of. Remember that "Open FPGA" is just a name - The pocket is still something 100% controlled and managed by Analogue. At any time, they can change their rules, change their hardware, or just stop making them. So, as someone who's been in hardware development pushing 20 years now, my advice to EVERYONE who wants to port their cores is this: If it's fun and easy, go for it! If it's a pain, or just not enjoyable for you, stick with the DE-10, or another mass-produced dev kit / FPGA chip. Analogue makes excellent products, but they've made it clear they're a "boutique company" who cares more about fancy marketing and press releases than giving back to the community. I HOPE this will all work nicely, but am proceeding with caution...

AlexK

I'm always glad to have ports for everything and in theory analogue devices are very cool (since I have none, I can't really vouch for them), but Analogue business pratices are not in line, IMHO, with what you are trying to accomplish. Besides, if that will take time from other cores, it's even worse. Looking forward to play OutRun on my MiSTer

Curtis Leny

Only if the open OS is truly open source; I don't want a pseudo open source or a way for Analogue to essentially exploit free development for their own profit

Brandon Tweed

I would very much prefer if your efforts stayed focused on MiSTer.

Carlos Ayala

I own a Pocket and would be willing to pay a premium to have you involved in Pocket FPGA development. Please share the love!

Brendan Robert

As long as the licensing terms are acceptable to you then I respect your decision either way. If you don't like the source license they choose then do not do it.

mattyhochs

The company is bad, absolutely. But the people who spent $220 on the Pocket are not. No disrespect at all intended, but Analogue is going to be selling Pockets for years regardless of you developing these cores. You boycotting them only hurts the people that bought it. Depriving them of your amazing work serves no purpose but to please some angry people online. As a Pocket owner who has been very dissatisfied with Analogue's support of the device so far, please try to port your cores if possible (and especially if it doesn't majorly affect your MiSTer work :) ).

theypsilon

No, unless they open source their cores & firmware / os

MAURICIO FERREIRA CRESTI

I know that many will tell you to not support because the system isn't really open or because of their mistakes but in the end would be great to have some cores in a very capable portable machine.

Marc Mouton

It's not an open platform, it's just a waste of time that will slow down core development...

Lukas Schaper

The big question is what open fpga will mean. The company is sadly one of the worst when it comes to communication with customers. Guess we have to wait and find out. I pre-ordered a pocket and if they open the platform I definitely would love to play your cores on it!

Phily

Would rather you to focus on the DE10 nano. I'd worry that Analogue Pocket porting/dev would slow down DE10 core dev

Roberto

No. Closed source profiting off your hard work and our Patreon support

Lucian

I would go for MK series, PGN, irem72/92 and other goodies before spending your valuable time and branins on making Analogue richer...

W S

No please, analogue in not really open

Samson Wick

This would be fantastic.

Richard Thompson

Please dont jotego you have too much goodness for the mister to work on .

OnlyHuman

I fear it would slow down MiSTer core development if you had to put time aside to rework your cores to run on Pocket but I have no objection to them receiving every single one of your cores if Analogue opens up the firmware and another developer is willing to take upon themselves to port the cores over to Pocket.

40wattrange

Why help a company that never helps the community?

Benjamin C. Wiley Sittler

I think the advantages of portable implementation of your cores outweigh the disadvantages (Analogue's murky history with developers and chronic inability to communicate.) All other issues aside, it is a very nice piece of hardware

Roberto

Vote no. It’s like we are subsidizing Analogue through our Patreon, why are we paying for them to profit?

16Bit SPY

Analogue was a good start-up, it has become a bad company that doesn't give a FF about the customers who were there in the beginning. I don't want my support supporting them, it doesn't sit well with me.

1040STF

I can't believe the "me me me" responses. The more people can enjoy your cores, the better.

Michele Fornasini

I have 3 Mister FPGAs, complete with everything and more. I voted NO, I prefer your work to be dedicated to a completely free and born free project.

David Fleetwood

Absolutely. Been happy to be a Patron but at this point I haven't even turned on my MiSTer in nine months. Meanwhile I use my Pocket all the time. I'd love more options with it and I'd even step up a tier as a patron. This also opens up pocket owners to your work, and they may choose to support you which benefits everyone.

HorizonOfANewDay

If this will take away from your ability to focus on cores for Mister, then no, you should not port your cores to Pocket. If it won't impact your work on cores for Mister, or will only impact that work minimally, then sure, go ahead. I back this on Patreon for the work on Mister cores, not Analogue, but am not against folks helping to support each other's work, within reason.

Bit2018

Just to be clear, As mentioned by Retro RGB. IF this migration is an easy one let's go for it but the main focus should be the DE10nano platform as its the true "open platform" that brought us here.

Dan Doyle

The DE10 is much more capable, I’d rather see that utilized with arcade cores pushing its limits (exciting things like CPS3) than compromises for a small pocket user base. The people responding yes (I don’t have one) may never get one at the rate Analogue is producing them.

joshewah777

I voted yes, I’m still waiting for my pocket to arrive, but I think truly open platforms like Mister should take priority.

Bit2018

What about starting to design a true portable "de10nano" platform? Are there any efforts on that area? For sure that we have many people on the project that design hardware, manufacturing, etc...

electromagnet

Anyone who thinks that cores should only exist on MISTER has a toxic perspective on open source and in general the joy of what this is all suppose to be about. I have a MISTER and several Analogue systems and love them all. I would love to be able to play Jotegos core's on my Pocket. It costs the fraction of a MISTER and it is portable, too. Why would anyone *not* want cores to be on Pocket?

Kuro Houou

I have a Pocket and I do love it, its screen is leaps and bounds above all other portable devices. While its not the DE10, it is the best portable FPGA we have access to. I would love to see you support it!!!

Kaiosten

I would only do it if it was super easy and didn't take much time, or if there was nothing left to work on.

Spiff

No, talk is cheap. Let Analog commit to SDKs, debugger and actual support, not just googlestyle canned email template response, before you do anything. If they can show that, then sure.. I'll patreon it or similar ports

MoonZ

2 MiSTer here, and a Pocket, but I'd prefer you focus on the MiSTer as well ;) (voted no)

Tobi

Still waiting for mine. Voted Yes, would love your support on the pocket.

Luke Earnshaw

I don't think I'd ever have a pocket unless on steep discount

Alex Schuetz

I appreciate that you asked, but please don't waste your time.

Oliver Wndmth

No, cause atm it is not open source, availability is bad, many cores will not be that playable on a pocket device as they were made for arcades. And I would like to see new Mister greatness from you instead investing time into conversion.

Evil-Soft.com

Time & energy aren't infinite. I'd rather see that put towards the platform you've been working on & gaining deep intricate knowledge of, making that all it can be. Analogue has their own resources & can devote them towards their own platform. The MiSTer FPGA community wouldn't benefit from your efforts going elsewhere unless they also own those devices, & the people who do knew what they were signing up for (getting updates via Analogue, if at all).

Funkycochise

when they release their core. else they can go to hell

Johan Sjöstrand

Let them port the cores themselves if they want people to buy their hardware. I don't want to pay for it.

Hardyhell

They will take your cores and run away with it. Fuck them !

Yang Wenli

This may be an unpopular opinion, but my preference would be that Jotego spends his time developing new and refining existing cores that run on non-commercial products. Another point worth noting is that Analogue does not exactly have the best track record when it comes to working with other developers in the FOSS community: https://endrift.com/2021/12/13/analogue-pocket-hate-story/

Southy

I don't have a Pocket but voted 'Yes' because it would be nice for more people to be able to enjoy your work.Of course you know best how much time and energy you have to spare, so as always I'm happy for you to make the final decision.

F34R

I voted yes. I bought the pocket with the idea of mister cores making their way to the pocket. I'd love to have some portable mister in my life!!

James Kilgore

Please stay focused on MiSTer. There are far too many Core opportunities just waiting on a talented developer to tackle. Neo Geo Pocket, TMNT, MK, etc. Although I own each of their products, Analogue is a terrible company which barely support their own products. They deserve to be left to their own devices imo.

modsbox

I voted yes, since I have a Pocket. But I'm not clear on whether or not the Analogue folks are good to work with (based upon the stories that others shared above), and also whether it would be the best use of your time. I feel like the most impactful work will likely still be getting more noteworthy arcade games (Mortal Kombat series, Konami games, etc) working. But if it were fairly straightforward to do just a bit of work and bam! Jotego cores work on the Pocket that would be awesome!!

ALFREDO CANAS

I think right now it would be a waste of precious time and resources and it would delay current plans, you are already pretty busy with refining/maintaining cores, perhaps next year after you're done with the current roadmap then it would be appropriate to think about it.

Niko

I think it would be cool to run your cores on a Pocket, but ultimately I voted No. I'd rather see your time dedicated to polishing building on the MiSTer.

Mottzilla

I think the MiSTer and new cores/core updates should remain the focus. Support for the Analogue Pocket should be a low priority.

Roms to Riches

I too, am selfish. No sir, I don't like it.

terminator2k2

MiSTer isn't the only platform JT devs for for the folks saying stick to mister

GASQBDUV

I would love it. The Pocket at the moment is the best shot at a portable FPGA powerhouse, even with the less then stellar reputation that Analouge has.

Everblue

Why support a commercial company that gives nothing in return?! They want arcade cores? Let them do it. Meanwhile Patreon money goes to new cores that run on open source projects like the MiSTer, not to Analogue.

Skutis

I voted yes, It will probably be worth it. Even if I don't own a pocket.

ElloMrChris

If the Pocket were more readily available then I’d probably say go for it. But as it stands it would only serve to help Analogue, and I don’t think many of your paying patreons would directly benefit from it. My vote goes to No for now, maybe reconsider in a year or two.

Lee Norris

Yeah why not? We don’t own you just because we send you $3 a month. If it’s something you’re interested in doing, I say go for it.

Dominic Ferrantelli

I voted yes, as my preorder should be arriving in a few months, but this is based on the idea that porting won't be a huge effort. If it will take serious time it may not be worth it?

YuzoTibi

I don’t have the „Pocket“ yet but your cores are would be highly appreciated. More than Neo Geo Pocket at least in my case. Thanks!

Bit2018

should Jotego create a different patron tier specifically for the pocket? that way the funding will only go for the pocket porting? (but still the time allocation issue)

Romain Dijoux

Due to the way analogue does it’s business, I would say no. Unless they are paying you a lot of money because everyone needs to eat, I would support this company that are profiting on the back of the community devs.

William Rohrig

I purchased a Pocket last year but have yet to receive it. I would absolutely love to have your cores on the device but not at the expense of MiSTer development.

Mute

I am open to the concept, but it seems a bit early to make decision on it when we don't know anything about what the terms and conditions are going to be or how it will work.

Don Gafford

Still waiting for my pocket, but I'd love to see your stuff on the Pocket.

Tonurics

You already support the Analogue Pocket by making your cores Open Source.

SC

Only if Jose Tejada wants to.

Bass Hunter

Analogue are a horrible company please stick with MiSTer FPGA

JPS (RetroFPGA)

I would prefer you spend your time bringing more MiSTer cores and improving the existing ones, instead of supporting Analogues hardware sales.

Jon Pyle

A bit torn on this. More platforms = good. NGP, maybe Jaguar and loads of arcade cores on misterfpga = really really good.

Alex Figueiredo

Stick with MiSTer, Analog has cool devices and such, but is well knoiwn for the shitty business practices. Even with Patreon don't work for them for free. Know if they decide to borrow your code for some fee I'm totally in favor of that. Your plates is already full of cool projects keep the good work and let the shark tank alone.

Jose Perez Sanchez

He votado por 'Si, aunque no tengo una Pocket'. Aunque me faltaba la opción de 'Lo que prefiera Jotego'

Christopher Tuckwell

Analogue haven't been doing the retro gaming community any favours with their behaviour. I don't believe that they will open source any of their products.

Andrea Bogazzi

Let's be honest @jotego, only if they give you a bunch of money. Adding cps2, system16, cps1, and more stuff you did, makes the pocket way more interesting that is today. I don't own a pocket, but i wish the best to who owns it, but analogue should sponsor you with a consistent sum of money.

Jonathan

Would absolutely love some cores my my pocket!

Matt Charlesworth

As Analog are a for-profit company, I don't think it's right for you spend your time creating value for them unless you are paid for your time by them. I'm a NO, unless they compensate you directly for your time.

Chad Landman

I will second and third what a lot of people have already said - but yes, while I would love to have some cores for the Pocket, I would still like MiSTer to be the priority.

bitfan2011

This whole issue is confusing. Analogue has the developers to port the cores themselves. Why would the MiSTer scene do it for them? MiSTer devs have already done the vast majority of the work

Filip Kindt

I assume that people at Analogue should have resources of there own to port cores... From whatever Core-Developer as long as the license model allows this. But I don't think that Jose should spend his precious time... But in the end it will be Jose choice how he spends his time.

VideoRetroTeca

Hi all, I have voted YES because I consider all the FPGA world, not only Mister, or Mistica or whatever. Of course, your efforts will have to be remunered as worth it. I have a pocket and Analogue doesn't make gifts

Robert Dickenson

I have paid for an analogue pocket maybe in hand in a few months. I agree with RetroRGB's twitter response.

Cubeecraft

I have a Pocket on pre-order. I have a Mister. If it is easy to port what you have done to Pocket, great. However, Mister should be the priority.

Basil The Plant

You only have a certain amount of time - I'd spend it developing new cores for MiSTer. How long will it be before MiSTer gets ported to Analogue Pocket anyway? (Having said that I know very little about the differences between the DE10 and Analogues Pocket)

SegaSnatcher

There are going to be a lot of Pocket owners, it would be a shame not to see your awesome cores ported on the only handheld FPGA device that will be out for quite awhile.

Arthur Fung

I say no. Analogue will be profiting off the MiSTer developers. Don't forget, they're in business to make money no matter how "niche" they are...

ER

Could be interesting. Some cores would work fine on the built-in screen, other cores meant for larger screens would probably work better when the Analogue system is docked to a TV.

electromagnet

I have to say I'm pretty befuddled at a lot of the comments here. Why help Terasic sell more DE-10 nanos? Why help raspberry pi sell more raspberry pi's? Seems like a moot point. All of these platforms and therefore the companies that make them make money if they sell more because a developer makes literally anything for it that makes someone buy it to use it. An Analogue Pocket is no different, except that its an outstandingly high quality device for a very good price. What Analogue is doing with openFPGA hopefully encourages even more developers to make even more things for FPGA, not just for Pocket but for any FPGA platform that exists now and forever into the future. I vote strongly yes, the more ways I can play Jotego's great work or anyone elses the merrier imo.

Darren Wootton

I’m curious about how ‘open’ it will actually be. If getting the cores onto the Pocket means having to comply with any kind of demands or restrictions from Analogue then it’s something I wouldn’t be able to support.

Fed

I don't think it is about us but about Jose, if Jose can find some enjoyment in porting his Cores over why should we refuse ourselves the pleasure of having them on our Pocket ? I struggle to get the rationale behind voting no here.

inu bass

Not unless you get a cut.

deathr0w

I'm here for Jose Arcade cores I think this is where he is the master and should stick with it just focus on what you already do nothing else.

Adrian

Analogue has done nothing for open software except to name an fpga "Open".

Daniel Bauza

I’m very happy about what Jose already did. If he want to port the cores to a microwave I’ll keep supporting him. He helped to preserved a lot of games and having more platforms supported the better. For how long the mister will last? 50 years? Of course it will be interesting to find what “Open” means. But yeah, do whatever you want, we are where we are thanks to Jotego and the others contributors. Gracias! Eres un grande!

Sweetlilmre

I was a no. If Pocket reached out to you and offered a no obligation patron contribution of say $500 a month for a minimum of the next year, that would change my opinion.

1040STF

To those who argues that Analog would profit from Jotego's work to sell more Pockets, let me tell you one thing : Intel sells a lot of DE-10 nano boards thanks to Jotego's work and never gave him a dollar. And you all seem fine with that.

Raziel

To me the answer is maybe... the problem I have is that your time is limited, so if porting to the pocket means less work on upcoming cores like Mortal Kombat and Third Strike, then I'm in the no bucket.

Carlo Pedrazzini

I’d say yes because I’d like to enjoy your cores in portable mode. Of course development of MiSTer cores should have the priority. Maybe being your cores open, someone else (with a second Patreon?) could take the burden to convert to Analogue?

Adam Atom Ant

If you do this, please find a way to charge for it and make some money from the time you invest into doing this. You have been a blessing to this community, and I would hate to see Analogue profiting from your efforts while you get nothing for it.

Krycek7o2

If they are simple to port, sure. But would Analogue pay your or your team for your time. This to me is the biggest hurdle. While the Pocket is an excellent little device, and we yet know what it's capable of, it's a commercial product that will gain more of a following. But doing it for "exposure?" Nah, not worth it.

1040STF

In the end, I would say we're here to support your work. Not to tell you what your work has to be. It started with your will to do this and that, it has to continue that way. So if you wanna dig into the Pocket, do it. If you don't wanna, just don't. No one has to keep you hostage from what you do. But that's just my humble opinion.

Stanley Roper

@1040STF the ONLY reason any one of us are here/and are donating is because we all have a MiSTer. If porting cores to Pocket takes weeks/months of effort and impacts what we are all here for (MiSTer cores) then ya, call me (and the majority, based on the poll) selfish 😂

Stephen Goldberg

I voted no, but in truth would like to see your cores there. Your work has been so prolific , you should certainly be compensated for the porting effort. I would recommend speaking to Analogue to see if they would license them.

Craig Somerfield

I said no but what I really mean is not at this time, completing cores on a platform you’re more comfortable with (MiSTer) is the best use of your time, who’s to say that someone may come up with a simple pipeline for converting MiSTer cores to analogue in the future

Bruno Silva

Analogue should port the cores themselves if they want to, it's all open source afterall. This will just take time that could be spent on fixes/new cores.

Everblue

I think, people should vote with their money. I don't want to give money directly or indirectly to Analogue. But if there are people who want to, Jotego can always create a separate Patreon tier for these people.

Ferddy Fred

Yo preordene uno pero si tu trabajo no es recompensado que lo hagan ellos

Xzarian

No shot bro, screw analogue! I say focus your time on something worth a damn and pocket isn’t one of those things

Tony Vo

Focus on mortal Kombat ! 🤓

Chris Carabott

Please. I would love to see you work on the pocket.

Matt Richenburg

Do what you are interested in! I will support you either way.

Salvador Perugorria Lorente

MiST or Sidi are open hardware, and done by scratch (not kits, not closed hardware), and cores are done by the community. Analogue hardware?? Just a mistery. They don't tell how its hardware and cores have been done.

Fed

Would be interesting to know the split in the « No » between those owning or not a Pocket.

Ryan Clark

Like RetroRGB said, it all depends on how much work porting between Pocket and MiSTer cores is. If it’s reasonably simple, I don’t see a good reason not to support both platforms.

ganondork

All of preservation should be open source, I wouldn‘t like it.

David Ashby

I don’t like the idea of my monthly Patreon contribution going towards Pocket development. Let others focus on porting the JT cores if they want them bad enough. Jotego’s focus should be on developing new cores and bugfixing existing ones, just as it has been since the beginning. Jotego, Analogue will never give you any recognition for working (for free) to pad their pockets (no pun intended). Just look at how they handled the Space War port: there was only a small credit to the GitHub source for the PDP-1 cpu. No mention of the original developer/s of the core. If you help Analogue, it will be the opening salvo to the gradual demise of open source FPGA communities like MiSTer’s.

Josh O'Roake

I just now joined this Patreon to show my support for porting the cores to Pocket. The MiSTer looks to be an incredible platform, but at the same time isn't my cup of tea. I do have a Pocket and would love to see it supported. Regardless of the decision to support it or not, I'll still remain here to support your efforts towards preservation.

Michael Tapp

Please don't divert resources to the pocket.

Hodgkin LeBlanc

As I see it, the solution is to start a separate crowdfunding campaign that is dedicated for JTFRAME support on Pocket. Take it outside of Patreon. Let those people who want to pay you to add Pocket have a way to do so without letting other Patrons feel like you sold them out.

Billy

I have a MiSTer and an Analogue Pocket. So of course I’d love to see your cores on the Pocket. Thank you for all you’ve done. It is indeed appreciated.

Mark Kilborn

I own a Mister and I own a Pocket. I love them both. I’ll stay on the Patreon regardless of whatever you do, it’s your call. I’ve read some stories online, particularly the mGBA story, that would give me pause about working on something for the Analogue folks. As much as I’d enjoy your cores in portable form, I wouldn’t want to encourage you to work with a group that might not treat you fairly. So I voted no. But I’m here regardless. I appreciate what you do.

Charles Anderson

So there are three possible answers, and more than half of you don't want someone else to have something. You could say "Yes, and I don't have one" but you choose "No" (which, by extension, implies you don't want someone else to have something.) Very sad and disappointing.

Kyle

Joined to say I hope you port some cores to the pocket.

Stephen Cheek

Heard about your poll and decided to back based on it. I do not have a mister, but I do have a pocket, and I would love to see you and other devs support the device, so I will support you in the next couple of months and will continue contingent on you deciding to port cores to Pocket in the future. I think there are probably others such as myself that would be happy to support you if you decide to.

rave2noon

It’s not like everyone here is fabbing FPGA cores for themselves for their MiSTers. The Pocket is a much more accessible solution for most gamers, and it is going to grow the FPGA community a LOT (once they can ship more units). A (not perfect) comparison: Would computers and the software development community be as large as it is today if you couldn’t buy a pre-built computer? A rising tide lifts all boats.

David Morris

Would absolutely love to see your cores on Pocket! Signed up to show my support for it.

Baylor Guild

Not interested in supporting development on closed platforms. No harsh feelings, but I'll move my pledge to another developer.

I’d love to see cores ported to Pocket!

Anton Putra

I have a Pocket and recently built I MiSTer. I'd love to see your cores on the Pocket!

Jose Rodriguez Cruz

Would be nice to see some kind of progress with the Pocket, for sure. Still waiting for mine, but it would be amazing to see your work on it, when it finally arrives.

Christopher Petroni

As a Pocket owner, I would be delighted to see your cores ported to the Pocket. Developing for both platforms expands the audience for FPGA-based retro gaming and benefits the broader community. If porting cores to the Pocket doesn't take too much time, I hope you'll consider doing it even if the poll results continue to slightly favor withholding support. I imagine most of the people who voted "no" likely don't own a Pocket and therefore don't stand to be hurt. Getting a MiSTer doesn't make sense in my circumstances, and I'm sure there are other retro gaming enthusiasts like me who lose out. EDITED TO ADD: I will stay a Patron for at least 6 months no matter what you decide. You deserve compensation for your efforts. I also adjusted my word choice to be more neutral.

Firstly, thank you for the cores you've already provided for MiSTer. I've enjoyed and appreciated your work on that platform very much. I'm also a long-term Analogue customer currently waiting for a Q4 Pocket, so I have a foot in both camps. If you decide to proceed with supporting Analogue, I'd suggest having a conversation with them beforehand about how they'll market your work and ensure that you're credited properly. The omission of the correct credit around their port of the PDP-1 core in Analogue's marketing (and Taber's trashing of MiSTer in interviews) sets a poor precedent, although this behaviour is not unexpected. Please make sure you're not taken advantage of for Analogue's gain.

I joined your Patreon specifically to vote yes for Pocket support. I bought my first MiSTer a couple years ago and think it's a great system but it's not entry user friendly in the way platforms like the Pocket are. I think Pocket support would give you the potential for a much wider audience. Plus having your excellent work available on the go, rather than bound to my arcade cabinet or monitors is a huge plus.

Teddy Hidalgo

Thank you for all the work you've done for MiSTer, having also gotten a Pocket would love to see your work there as well!

Matthew Towne

Have thoroughly enjoyed my MiSTer and dream about carrying it around with me. The potential of the Pocket will be realized one way or another, might as well be your cores that become the standard.

David Sims

Hey there! New patron because I don't (yet) have a MiSTer and because of that hadn't heard of your work until very recently. I have a Pocket and would love to see any cores you're willing to port over on it!

Kim

if you yank your pledge because you don't want him porting cores to the Pocket you're kinda being a baby tbh port the cores please! I have both a MiSTer and Pocket and will double my pledge if you port the NES

Mickaël Renou

Voted yes of course, for I own a MiSTer and a Pocket.

Chris Farrell

Yes, absolutely! The more FPGA gaming the better.

circletheory

Since I do not have a Pocket, I voted 'No'. I would much rather see your energy put forth in new cores rather than porting to Analogue. Just my two cents! Love you Jotego!

akugou

The more the merrier! Please port to the Pocket when you find the time, but don't prioritize it :)

Joseph Johnston

I have a MiSTer and a Pocket, and the more the merrier! In fact, I've specifically joined your Patreon to tell you so. Thanks for all you do.

Joined to say yes, hell yes

Joined to say yes like some others, I think the concerns about OpenFPGA are legitimate but hopefully community efforts like your own can help make it more actually open, FPGA on the go isn't really available anywhere else so growing the audience could mean more competition as well

I previously posted the opinion that “if it was easy do it but otherwise focus on Mister”. After seeing your thread on Twitter (https://twitter.com/topapate/status/1553072392737529857?s=21&t=ZM4Phg5ojfU8-o9NgOSL6Q ) and getting a better understanding of how you work I think you should do it. “I think adding support in JTFRAME for it may take a full week, provided they help.” A weeks work and many more people will get to enjoy what you do, and you may get more Pocket owners joining your Patreon as a result since they will now benefit from all ongoing core work.

Lee Grocott

Very happy to support this Patreon for a long time, but cancelled as don’t wish to support Analogue (indirectly). Apologies, but thank you.

Dereck

became a new supporter to encourage you to support the pocket!

Christopher D Hamilton

I would love to get at least CPS1 and CPS2 support. I can understand if porting everything over would be too much but I think it would be a missed opportunity to not support the pocket. I'd doulbe my monthly support right now if both platforms were supported.

Brian Manley

I am on the wait-list for the pocket. It will be the first peice of tech I've gotten from them. I've always been interested, but this sthe first thing I saw that no one else was even trying to do.

EdTheNerd

Joined for a year specifically for using pocket cores. Excited to see them.

HS

I just joined for analogue pocket support.

Fred Garvin

I just joined, looking forward to Pocket support.

Hilton Price

Hello. Joined for pocket support, but also curious to learn more about Mister down the road.

Steve Fish

I own a Pocket and MiSTer. Joined out of appreciation that you're supporting both. Thank you!

Jeffrey Pierce

I have no problem with Analogue making its own cores closed/proprietary, but I'd rather see people develop cores for systems that are based around closed source, or else it encourages it. So if it takes time units away from a Mister core, I'd rather not see development time wasted on the pocket. If Analogue wants to profit from more cores on its system, then let them create it. No need to do their work for free.
