Out Run Jukebox (Patreon)

After three intense weeks, we haven’t been able to get Out Run to boot correctly. It boots to a halt but if you press F2, you can enter the service menu and play the tunes. So I suppose we have an Out Run jukebox core at this stage. The same goes for Turbo Out Run. With Super Hang On the situation is a bit better. You can actually start a game and move the motorbike but there is no road and the imaginary road goes straight. This has been quite frustrating, to the point of having funny dreams about this where different code lines took human personalities and interact in the dream. So before I end up like don Quixote, I have published the source code as it is so other developers can have a fresh look at it. What’s missing now may be something as silly as a value in a line but sometimes you need someone with a different approach to find the problem. I will not look at this problem again myself until September. I include a file of the core as it is now, in case you want to have a look. Please remember that it only works as a jukebox right now. It is not even in beta state.

As we are finishing July without new cores because of the Out Run fiasco, I will select a safe title that can be done in a week for next Friday. After that the rest of the month will be dedicated to NGP as originally planned.

About the Analogue Pocket support, the poll results were split in half. I think there is a lot there that can only be addressed by Analogue. Let’s see what they publish today and if there’s some move on their side, we may come back to this question and make another poll. From my side, I can only say that adding the other four minor platforms I support took between one to four days in each case, with the help of the platform creators. I suppose the Pocket will take a similar effort. Once a platform is added in my framework, compiling the cores each week basically comes for free. The only platform we test thoroughly is MiSTer.
