Important: jtbeta.zip changed, you need to update your copy.

I used to believe in Christmas miracles, now I have to believe in Halloween miracles too! Just five days ago, the JTSHOUSE core was unplayable and with completely broken music. I thought that having this beta release was a long shot, but here we are.

The main difficulty, as I explained before, has been the microcontroller (MCU). I had assumed it was based on a different CPU, and later on found that it was based on a newer model. I had to add the new instructions to this code (foreign to me). Still, the game didn't improve. Looking deeper into it, this newer CPU was running many instructions faster than the older model. Changing that was not doable in a day, but luckily there was a way around: overclocking! That finally made the game playable. So the beta core has three accurate CPUs and a fourth one, which is not cycle accurate but doing the job. Making a new design for this CPU should not be too hard, maybe a 2-week task, and it is important for other games too. I will look again into it but, for a beta, this is good to go.

Other beta quirks: no pause function yet and some minor graphical glitches.

Working on this core this week has shed new light to Bubble Bobble (again) and also the JT51 (YM2151 compatible) module. So expect several public core maintenance updates for this Friday. There will not be a Patreon post but just a quick note on Discord and X.

Note that this JTSHOUSE beta is only for MiSTer and Pocket as the system does not fit in smaller devices.

We are looking into adjusting the Patreon prices for low tiers after four years without changes. This will not affect current subscribers. New comers will see the new price while legacy subscribers will keep the old one. No action needed on your side.

Have a spooktacular Halloween!

Auto updaters aren't snagging the roms yet on Pocket, but this is fantastic. Thanks for constantly churning out excellent work!

Particle Beam Animation

Thanks Jotego. Just wanted to say I've been a proud supporter of two years now. I think today will be my last day. No reason but because I kind of want to move on with other stuff now and Im quite happy to see all the support you're getting now. Thank you for all your work, Jotego. Happy Halloween and God bless.

Thank you Jose (and team!)🎃

JOTEGO

Thank you very much for your long time support. All the best :-)

Its a great day to have Splatterhouse in the MiSTer FPGA. I tried to play but the insert coin button doesn't work yet.

samred

Same issue for me on Pocket. Additionally, on Pocket, the beta.zip linked here doesn't work, all beta cores now load directly into credits screen.

Gabriel S

Can't wait to load up Splatterhouse once Pocket Sync grabs it, thanks for all the hard work!

Adam Davis

HOLY MOTHER 🥹 Thank you José 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Steven S

Splatterhouse seems to work for me, but now a few cores such as bubble bobble, tmnt and simpsons are loading straight into the credits screen as mentioned above.

Adam Davis

Is anybody else getting a weird warning screen when trying to click on the new jtbeta.zip? It says that the URL is not owned by Jotego and that he/she owns the site and you have to go to their site in order to download the zip file ... WTF?!

Jason Moskowitz

Important: jtbeta.zip changed, you need to update your copy. (this is not a link, use the link below that near show more and it will work.)

ronalvel .

Muchas Gracias, me encanta ese sistema de Namco.

John K

The only two links I see are the two I am sure Adam Davis also sees, which result in that error screen.

John K

Figured it out: I was on my Patreon dashboard, not on Jotego's page. The links show when I clicked into Jotego's page and scrolled to the post again.

Adam Davis

Weird right? Don’t want to download the zip cause this doesn’t look right

Adam Davis

Found a work-around = download it in the iPhone and send via email = no weird URL ownership page … strange

Gum Bercules

What a spooky surprise! ty Jotego!

NinoPrime

I map the controls but I can't control it

Trey S.

Pocket Updater on Mac grabbed it for me this time around, just a heads up!

Trey S.

And, we're off! Splatterhouse now that my kids are in bed, thanks again!

Curtis M

Sorry if this caused confusion. I've improved the message on that page to help clarify the problem. The issue is that Patreon is "helpfully" turning every occurrence of the text "jtbeta[.]zip" (without brackets) into a link, because jtbeta[.]zip happens to be a valid URL. This link doesn't let you download the actual beta file; it just takes your to that URL. I registered that URL (it was unregistered as of this morning) because I was concerned it could be abused. I then hastily set up a simple webpage explaining what had happened. However, in my haste, I wrote a message that was hard to follow, and this clearly caused a lot of confusion and distress. The new message should better explain what's going on. TL;DR: The jtbeta[.]zip link in Jotgeo's post doesn't download the file. Click on "Read more" and scroll down to the attachments to find the actual file. The proper file should have a paperclip icon next to it.

Adam Davis

Aaahhhh, ok I was worried someone had hacked his patreon account or something. Thank you for the clarification and glad to know the person behind the message is actually part of the team. Makes more sense now 👍🏼

Gum Bercules

Heh, yea. I can’t get the credits button to work or map either

Gum Bercules

Followed the directions, but having the issue with Simpsons, tmnt, bubble bobble, and Taito sj. Tried doing beta.zip in the root > run updater and manually putting beta.bin in the assets\NAME\common folders. They were working for me previously (splatter house is working but can’t insert coin)

Nicolas Verlet

Hey guys, the new jbeta.zip works fine with Splatterhouse, but it now locks good ol' TMNT or jtaliens core for instance. What did I do wrong? Thanks again for the amazing work!

Jimmy Heinrich

Installed the pocket.zip and now I am locked out of bunch of games. Just scrolls jotego credits...

Gabriel S

Good news, pocket sync was updated just now specifically to fix the weird error of the new jtbeta file locking out of some cores

rester159

for some reason I'm not able to get buttons to work. I reconfigured them in the menu, but they don't work (I'm using Mistercade connected to a Blast City)

Jimmy Heinrich

I don't know. I have replaced the new beta.bin to all the proper game folders and on the root of the card. Nothing is working. Simpsons, Aliens, TMNT, Splatterhouse, Bad Dudes, ect. All locked.

Urban Knish

Same here. The MiSTer setup is working great but the Pocket - nothing works with the new beta.bin. It's as if it's not there and I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong. I double-checked the date on each file and they are all from 10/27. I hope someone clears it up.

Urban Knish

Same...seems like a common problem? I hope it gets fixed.

Urban Knish

I tried it multiple times. All the required files (according to pocket sync) are there and I'm still unable to play any of the games. Some games there's no scrolling credits, others have the credits. In all cases, I can't play any of the games.

Gabriel S

Did you update pocket sync? After updating, I updated each beta core, it had me redownload some of the necessary files, then every beta works again

Gum Bercules

Got it. Needs latest beta.bin from the splatter house post. Put in assets/NAME/common (had an old beta.zip in my root messing things up when I ran the updater)

John Luedtke

Has anyone gotten this to work, yet? Splatterhouse runs, but I can' insert a coin. This is with the new beta-2.bin file. All the other Jotego games now have credits rolling. Do I need to replace beta.bin with beta-2.bin? I've tried that, too, but still credits on everything.

Michael Jones

I have the same issue. None of the games on beta will allow me to even insert a coin and I cannot play any of them.

Gum Bercules

Had the same issue until I manually put the beta.bin (from jtbeta.zip, downloaded from the splatter house post) in assets/NAME/common (also make sure you don’t have an old beta.bin in your root when/if you run an updater)

John Luedtke

Not sure if you're still having the issue, but I got it to work. I downloaded the most recent zip file (from the most recent blog post) and extracted beta.bin from that, then replaced all the old beta.bin files with the new one. I think where I was getting hung up was before when I downloaded it, the file was called beta-3.bin, which was jacking it up. After I replaced all the files, and deleted the old ones from my Trash bin (Mac user), I re-ran pocket_updater. Once I did all that, it worked. Good luck!

Pat Jones

I can't get Splatter House working on MiSTer. The buttons don't respond on Splatter House and I'm locked out of all the other beta cores after updating the beta zip file. Splatter House is running fine on Pocket tho.

JOTEGO

When the beta key changes, all cores and the key file must be updated. If they do not match, you will not be able to play. The easiest way to do this is to use an updater tool.

I dont get beta2 or beta3 when I download from the link above. Just says the same beta.zip as always and doesn't work. I even used an updater.

Curtis M

To be clear, I'm not a member of the team, just a supporter. I'd be happy to transfer the domain to Jotego or another party, but I hope that it's not necessary for much longer. Many websites and services have already updated to ignore .zip when automatically converting domain names into links, so hopefully Patreon and other stragglers will follow suit before too long.

Adam Davis

I see, have you reached out to Jose? It would feel better as a customer to know that the domain is under his jurisdiction

Hassan Sajid

I'm going to miss the wild audio of the Splatterhouse beta when the core is updated/fixed. Like others have said, it's genuinely brilliant to experience its broken/chaotic character. A menu toggle for the "Halloween Beta Music" would be a treat, if it's simple to implement. In any case, many many thanks for bringing another video game holy grail home.

Holger Lagerfeldt

Awesome! There's a flicking block of lines on the first level on the left and right side of the screen - bug?

JOTEGO

Can you tell us the approximate location of it? We can't confirm it when we play.

Holger Lagerfeldt

Certainly. I'd like to report it on GitHub but I fail everytime to find the exact page on GitHub for a specific game or core. So here goes: https://onlinemastering.dk/download/splatter-dump.png You can see the flickering lines on the right side of the screendump, in the middle. They will also happen on the left, before the fog of death comes in. It seems related to the purple fog, but will happen before it enters the screen as well.

Televicious Goober

Just thought I should note here, but Splatterhouse video sync is very skewed with the official mister composite adapter. There is a color image, but it's unplayable.

Rent Optional

Anyone else suddenly not able to get Splatter house to boot? The core loads, then a black screen.

Wayne

Yup latest update simpsons tmnt and aliens cores won’t work so frustrating

Rent Optional

I figured out the splatterhouse thing. Need to start the game and disable demo mode.

NinoPrime

I am still not able to insert coins

Bean Soup

is anyone getting issue mapping buttons on this? i can seem to get the jump button working - even thou i have tried it multiple times. its only happening on this game weirdly
