Luciführer?

Overzealous Euthanasiast

Is someone else sending you the Hasan clips? Cos as a new-yet-terminally-online watcher of his streams lately I saw a lot of the coverage and his rhetoric for most of the time in response to Bidens cancer was much more reasonable and restrained, even arguing with his more angry twitch chat telling them to calm down about and not be insane about it, it's only when he's covering more updates to Israel war crimes that the heated talk you bring up tends to come out. It's a lot of hours streaming everyday so I understand such a task is likely streamlined or outsourced, but whoever is sourcing that is either not doing due diligence or are acting in less than savory faith. I avoided watching him for years cos of believing ppl online when they shared stuff like that around, and tbh feel really deceived by ppl who claimed to be better (though coincidentally I only see them nowadays denying war crimes and genocide whenever their posts crop up online of late, lol) and frustrated it's still a problem even in this day and age of much needed coalition. The caricature people have been claiming is there is sadly just another right-wing divide and conquer trick centrists accepted at face value that fades pretty quick when hearing them have to deal with the actual crazy people in their twitch chat every day, trying to talk them out of their more unreasonable beliefs and misconceptions from the unhinged left and fascist right. - - - - - - - - - I hate having to do cringe defense of ppl I'll never meet, but am more concerned about the fracturing of left wing coalitions and the many tools used to throughout history to induce/perpetuate that. It may surprise people as much as it did me to learn the aforementioned influencer is perhaps one of the most bridge-building diplomatic/pragmatic leftists online especially for the age group of male leftists I've seen so far, strategically an asset to the cause we can't afford to handwave away In this state of geopolitical affairs. For those serious about combating the creeping/glaring far right threat at least, though many still don't see it as a problem, it causes me much anxiety leading to these sorts of embarrassing long posts at 3 in the morning lol

This Aubrey Marcus shit is illuminating a white light of enlightened violence in my third eye 😠

YellowDreams

I share you concern that this conspiracy stuff is more and more common and mainstream. But don’t you think a Rogan orbiter comedy who has been heavy into mma for ages and and mma fighter both being into the current days right wing conspiracies is pretty much exactly as one would expect? Given the quite sharp lean of the mma community AND Theo being a Rogan comedian (also into mma as well). Seperatly tho Theo is funny one for me cuz back maybe 2018-19 I listened to a lot of his podcast/youtube when it was 90% him just doing solo rambles that were largely comedic and seemed very genuine and almost never mentioned politics. He’d even seem sheepish about explicitly saying he was religious at all and was quite a wholesome performance art thing on the whole imo . Tho it was clear if you’d ask him he’d be at least a moderate Christian conservative in many ways. In other ways socially progressive too tho. Generally back then I’d say it’s hard to justify saying he wasn’t just being a relatively authentic 21st century internet comedian. And he already had like 200k subs then but was launched by appearing on Rogan but was back then not really in the same category as the other non funny Rogan orbiter comedian. I think he truly had a unique thing going on that was his own thing (standup I agree not funny but his solo rants could be quite entertaining and fun). Kinda stopped listening after a while tho just moved on. And then I don’t know how to read him now cuz he does certainly pal around with trump and push right wing conspiracy but then he did what seemed like a heart felt solo on Gaza. But then has diner with ivanka and jared which I saw some left creators criticise him for which is fair but then also characterise him as a pure right wing Rogan orbiting propagandist. But I think the little clip might have been genuine. Can’t tell tho. I’m not convinced he’s a full deliberate grifter but instead just fell into the traps laid out before a Rogan orbiting, mma fan, right leaning Christian dude. No real conclusion here tho. I have just found his journey quite an interesting one as he used to be fairly apolitical, despite being a Rogan orbiter and what not. Got huge started doing proper interviews with heaps of celebs and then trump and paling around with the admin and what not . I guess maybe that is wha you might be saying that he and the mma 10 years ago wouldn’t be doing this sort of musing in public with such glee and enthusiasm.

I think Owen Jones has been good on palestine/Israel. Always condemns violence from bad actors on pro palestine side. He can be a little much sometimes but he's consistent.

Kyle Dun

Did that guy just say "we had an intimate encounter and a white light came in my third eye". 😳 gross 😝 Also, I feel like JBP and Lindsay think life is like the Devils Advocate where Al Pacino is going around corrupting people lol. Also hear you Chris about the morning star / lucifer malarkey doesn't even make sense in terms of the historical development. It reminds me of the saying never let the facts get in the way of a good yarn.

Emma

Re. Dogs. My old dog had arthritis and vet put her on monthly carprofen injections. It's amazing for old dogs with bad joints. Also some omega 3 on their diet. The injections were amazing for my old dog, made a huge differenceto her quality of life. Also my rescue dog stunk when I adopted her to. And the smell went away in a few weeks. I think it's the dog food at the shelter or maybe just stress?

SHOUNAK SARKAR

Good god, the MMA subculture is toxic & conspiratorial in a way, even boxing is not. Looks like it attracts a special brand of low IQ, dudebro meatheads & morons. It also codes far-right in a way other more mainstream sports don’t. And yep, Taylor Lorenz is a vile ghoul. Basically the far-left version of MAGA, who should be shunned by progressives globally. Same with Hasan Piker.

SHOUNAK SARKAR

Oh and all the best with being a dog dad Matt! Greetings from a fellow cat dad.

David Noble

Left leaning people tend not to see any virtue in being civil towards those that facilitate genocide. You're signalling your own centrist "virtue" there.

Roland Weber

Thanks a lot, that was another wild ride! 🫨😁 Looking forward to Matt's next public apology: "I am so sorry that I didn't want to read this book about Buddhism, it's really great!"

Linda Sears

The woke Lucifer morning star analogy is so bizarre. People usually wake up because of the sun’s light. So does that mean the sun is super woke?

Ymirsdreams

That poor women. Emotional abuse on that scale should be illegal.

Kyle Wilson

Bret leaning into Terrain Theory explanations of cancer is unsurprising to say the least

Daniel Reed Miller

My ears really perked up when I heard the name Mark Gafni as Aubrey Marcus’ spiritual guru. He’s had a long series of very serious sexual abuse allegations over the years. I recall Conspirituality podcast had some coverage of him a couple years ago. Worth perusing his Wikipedia to get the gist. Really gross stuff but he just keeps reappearing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Gafni

Sam Leeming

Worth noting that Aubrey Marcus's relationship mentor had had multiple sexual misconduct accusations - admitting to underage relationships since he was 20 years old. Got him disrobed as a Rabbi It's even noted in his Wikipedia - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Gafni

Tell your dogs we said, “Hi!” We always adopt used dogs. Old dogs are the best! I have one, Epitome, snuggled against me now.

MJ Eldridge

Are Bret and Heather fully funded by Big Ivermectin? Just asking questions.

Phoebe

“Sorry honey but I actually HAD to cheat on you because of atoms, otherwise we’d be holding back evolution. Atoms also have relationships you see. No don’t worry it will make perfect sense once my guru explains it to you.”

Candice

That poor woman. Straight up gaslighting and manipulation. Obviously if she didn’t accept this new mystical relationship then she would be told that she’s wrong and spiritually stunted. It’s just abusive.

kurdelis

We need another huby and jordy meeting. I have a feeling that those orange glasses could make you luciresistant

Jarod S

The Woke = lucifer bit and the “what devilry!” comment from Matt had me chuckling.

Tree

Oh you guys know the Tankie squirrel. I had assumed it kept appearing (both positively and negatively shared) on my socials because my friends are weird. But I see it has 250K followers. 😕

Dave Lavelle

Have to wonder if Aubrey would be so eager to record a breathless podcast about the relationship constellation if his wife had decided she wanted to fuck Joe Rogan once a week instead.

Frances goulart

Omg! Listening to JP huffing and puffing about Harvard. You could hear his blood pressure rising! Yes, " your crazy uncle" is it! I see the smoke coming out of his ears!

I love that these conspiracy morons got into government and immediately found out all the conspiracies are bullshit

Nancy Hale

Jazzy and OJ-san look very, very cool, Matt. Don’t let anyone say different.

Joanna Mulvaney

i watch several cancer facebook groups because i edit a medical research news mag and right now in the ovarian cancer chat its all about ivermectin regimes. my understanding of ivermectin is that the mechanism by which it works to kill worms is not one that would exclusively kill ovarian cancer cells. i find it disturbing that those two are pushing snake oil on people do desperate for help.

Nancy Hale

Alternative cancer treatments promoted by ultra conservatives (as opposed to just the hippie-crunchy-progressive crowd) isn’t an entirely new thing. This may be isolated, but if you were around in the 1970’s you heard of Laetrile, a dubious and highly disputed cancer treatment. Some of its major advocates were John Birch Society members. Birchers distributed books on Laetrile and founded one of the main advocacy organizations for it. It all lines up with Birchers’ mission to oppose “Big Government” which in this care was suppressing a cancer cure and keeping patients from exercising their “medical freedom.” I find the whole Bircher phenomenon itself fascinating in understanding where we are today in the US. https://www.nytimes.com/1977/07/05/archives/rightists-are-linked-to-laetriles-lobby-but-backers-of-purported.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare&sgrp=c&pvid=139CA871-7F8B-41BF-9898-3D901E16FF5B

This episode reminded me that I wanted to suggest adding “exhibitionism” to the lightning round of the gurometer.

Ryan

I’m shocked that a guy who got hit in the head professionally would be so gullible

Sam D.

I think you are missing important context about Taylor and Hassan's comments about Biden. The news of Biden's cancer landed in the midst of new revelations (via Tapper's book), about the deliberate obfuscation, misdirection, suppression of information and outright lying that kept Biden as a candidate so long, thus ensuring Trump's re-election. The revelations ripped open a lot of pain and anger that many of us Democrats feel about the arrogance in the Biden White House that nearly guaranteed the horrors we are facing now. So no, it's not a moderated political stance, - it's a crie de couer, an anguish that I imagine it's hard for people outside the US to fully understand -as others are not facing what we are facing now.

S Alexandra

Yeah, no way in hell I was reading the Cod book, good choice even with the bloody 21 hour audiobook time

You reckon the therapist dude was actually thinking just riffing line in Interstellar? "Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends time and space".

Dina Crosta

Has anyone publicly called Brett W a shill for Big Pharma by constantly promoting Ivermectin?

Saksaas

James Lindsey and JP is now on the level the woman seeing 666 in a can of Monster. 🤦 (I wrote this comment 10 seconds before Matt said exactly the same) leaving it here for giggles 😅

Hiring a shaman to gaslight your wife into letting you have a girlfriend and broadcasting it on the internet is a level of audacity that needs to be studied.

Tristram Vahan Draper

I've recently been rewatching old 8 out of 10 Cats (I miss you, Sean) episodes and recently saw episodes where people laughed about the deaths of Slobodan Milošević and then Saddam Hussein. It was easy to joke about them because they were war criminals. I think when looking at Lorenz and those who reacted like she did, you have to consider that they genuinely think of Biden, Bush, and maybe even Obama as war criminals who get a pass because the power the US wields. With this mindset, it would be as angering seeing people express sympathy for Biden as it would be seeing people express sympathy for Saddam of Slobodan. I'm one of those loonie lefties who believes in prison abolition, so it goes without saying that I don't believe in the death penalty and I do wish death upon people who have committed crimes, much less people I disagree with. However, I still find it hard to find energy to feel sorrow for someone I don't know personally who will be getting the best medical care the country has to offer. Though perhaps this is because I was in high school during the first Bush Jr. administration and watched my dad open a newspaper every day to check "if Cheney is dead yet".

Jen

I love Supplementary Materials episodes. These are the main podcast for me. 😁💚

Matt Dear

Shame on the Shaman

Matt Dear

I love how people say "there are so many conspiracies that have turned out to be true". Then you investigate what they mean and it's just another conspiracy theory asserting it's truth, in complete contrast to the actual evidence. Covid ones are the classic, like the vaccines being 'proven' to not prevent transmission. It's not critical thinking to just believe someone when they say they've been proven right.

jubshit

Do people actually believe that a president/PM/king is weighing in on every decision, while accepting no outside consultation? I don't think they do. What they've done is draw connections between entirely dissimilar affects just like jordan and his buddy talking about awakening being akin to satan. They're oversold on simplicity and complexity. Everything is more simple than it seems outside of their realm while the things inside their wheelhouse are more complicated. These false corollaries strengthen their misunderstanding because they've been told they can be experts if they listen enough. I think one of your previous episodes where you talk about academic rigor and how people arrive at expertise ties in so wonderfully to why conspiracy blossoms in these circles. It's because they think everyone is just one YouTube video away from being an expert on something. This is a good episode and you two were on fire. Thanks.

Bobby Wayward

Fuck me listening to Aubrey Marcus and his wife was distressing:
