Cult Season continues, and much like Stefan himself, you may have hoped this would go away after Part 1. Unfortunately, like all persistent internet hauntings, Molyneux has returned. And this time, Chris and Matt venture even deeper into the Moly-Hole, a place where truth is redefined, callers are slowly gaslit into existential confusion, and every philosophical insight is served with the overwhelming scent of narcissism and emotional manipulation.

We return to the joyful world of Stefan’s caller-domination rituals, courtesy of Twitter Spaces, where he continues his life’s work of berating strangers and stroking his own ego while insisting he alone possesses the True Meaning of Truth.

Listeners can thrill to the culmination of the Truth Call™ from Part 1, where the philosophically inclined young father is sucked further into Stefan’s epistemological meat grinder as Stefan tries to uncover the imaginary psychoanalytic roots of the caller’s ongoing defiance. From there, we are introduced to Caller No. 3 for just a sprinkling of the patented victim-blaming and misogyny of the Molyneux Method.

Finally, Chris and Matt offer their overall thoughts on Molyneux’s long and illustrious career as an internet arsehole. They conclude that while Stefan has managed to cycle through platforms, ideologies, and degrees of baldness, he has maintained absolute fidelity to the same psychological tactics—gaslighting, projection, undermining, hypocrisy, and the uncanny ability to make even a throwaway joke feel incredibly creepy.

So that’s it for now… collectively we can escape the Moly-Hole, carefully sealing the tunnel entrance as we leave. And let’s pray this is the last time anyone has to think about good ol’ Stefan.

Aside from that… Cult Season continues. Abandon hope, etc.

Holy Moly what an ahole

MrTom

Here is a question worthy of a conspiracy hypothesizer: If the 1. caller wanted to make Molyneux look as bad as possible witout ruining his chances to come back on, could he have done a better job?

George

It's just all so weird. Such sinister, incomprehensible human behaviour. Truly unpleasant to listen to.

Cate Kneale

Does anyone listen to Molyneux for purposes other than learning how to be an emotional manipulator?

Marvin

out of all decodings i find this one the hardest to listen to. What an annoying little twat!

Linda Sears

He saved the worst emotional manipulation with the young caller to the last when he insinuated that not only was the caller projecting his anger at his father upon Stefan, but he (the caller) was being like his father. For a guy that seemed like he was doing right by his kids and had a more mature understanding of where his father was coming from than Stefan did, this move by Stefan was a low blow. Stefan was basically saying that the caller was no better than the father.

Joe

This is the only episode where I've had to skip through the clips and just listen to the decoding bits. What a creep.

Max

I'm scared to dip my toes in after reading the comments! Is the water still warm? Most seem to be drowning or lost their minds. Hermes be with me.

Scott Walkers Ghost

This was difficult to get through but I think it’s important to cover characters like this, even for myself to be able to spot this behaviour in other people so I can get far away from them as soon as possible.

Amy S

Some of his gaslighting techniques remind me of my teenage daughter when she’s at her worst. But at least with her I can take away her phone or ground her!

Jen

He reminds me of Calculon from Futurama…the Robot King of the Pregnant………….Pause. 🫏💨

Amy S

Chris, you asked why this man, who is so smart, would fall for Mol’s BS. I agree with Matt’s answer. And then there’s the caller’s probable young age, which you mention. I used to listen to Dr. Laura in my early 20’s because I found her amusing, entertaining and shocking. I also was intrigued by her powerful and confident demeanor. She is similar to Mol in a lot of ways. She has the same level of toxicity and uses the same kind of manipulative verbal techniques. After a while, her preaching would start to creep into my brain though, and I realize now that it was unhealthy. When you’re young and you listen to an elder give advice and commentary with confidence and deceptive false wisdom, sometimes it feels soothing in the moment, even if it’s abusive.

Isaac Rosenberg

I keep feeling terrible for this first caller and then have to remind myself that he obviously worships this piece of shit Stefan

Tim Tripp

Twenty eight minutes in and I am done.

Joe Buccino

I made it through but it was a struggle. A real struggle. It was a mix of disgust with Stefan and feeling so bad for the caller who seemed genuine and intelligent and willing to honestly engage. Yes, I criticize the caller for choosing to participate in this corrupt conversation but feel bad that something in his psychology makes him vulnerable to this nonsense and manipulation. I actual find Molyneux more toxic than Scott Adams who, in the end, doesn't pretend to care about his listeners - he just has some very bad ideas. The only person worse that you have covered is Dr. K. who has both bad ideas and almost certainly knowingly does real harm.

This is a blast from the past! Sometime in the 2010s I stumbled across his channel, there wasn't anyone putting out the same volume of "philosophy" content and the viewer call-ins did seem like a novel format on YouTube. I was studying for exams, so I put on a playlist. The struggle session vibe initially fit quite well with my feelings on calculus, but I began to feel unsure of his credentials after the umpteenth hour spent bemoaning his mother. I distinctly remember listening to him rant about that "pit of anal rape". At the time, there were plenty of edgy new-atheist YouTubers who used similar language, but paired with Molyneux's puritanical obsessiveness, it really came across as a Freudian fixation. I stopped taking him seriously after that. What a manipulative small-minded gross man.

James Lucas

Threw in the towel at 1:07:50. So painful 😒

Dominic Horner

Wow, this was rough. Really wish this caller would stand up for himself just for a second.

Melinda

It's a crowded field, I know, but is he just the worst human or what? He sounds like the origin of all DV perpetrators.

Jenny

This was an excruciating listen. The only reason I kept going was out of respect for the work Chris and Matt put into these decodings - but oof, what an emotionally fragile, abusive a-hole. And boring to boot! That poor guy. Hopefully he found a life outside the SM cult. I did laugh at the part when SM made that Eric Weinsteinian comment (while talking to Sean Carroll) along the lines of “I feel bad in my body when you talk to me in this way” - and then Matt or Chris made the same observation. These people are the worst

Beel

Audible reaction to Stefan answering those women calling in after the last episode. It really is like a proto Fresh and Fit or one of those podcasts.

Frances goulart

Classic submission and domination. Just the flogger is missing. Ugh.

Dan

I said a similar thing on the subreddit after listening to the first episode: "rejection of thought experiments/hypothetical" seems to be a really common trope among these types. The caller makes some really basic challenges against Molyneux and his reaction is just to reject the premise and pretend it's not a valid question. Incredibly dishonest and shitty behaviour. And actually reminds me a lot of the way people like Weinstein and Peterson respond to the same kind of challenge.

Max

Oh no... the second caller never clocked it. Right up to the last breath of the conversation he honestly believed Stefan gave a rat's ass about his relationship with his father... all the while he was whistling his way up the hill, recounting bits of his childhood and handing over rusty nails, as Stefan spitefully hammered him to the cross. Poor boy.

Nina Davies

The more it went on, the more I remembered how completely normal this is for people who live in parallel 'therapy worlds', whether cult or cult adjacent or just dealing with an psychotherapist that doesn't like you.

Cole Rees

[who was the most important person in your life who you found out lied, when you were a child?] Reminded me of Scientology auditing. Probing for trauma to exploit. And it's so transparent it's kind of shocking someone would put up with it. I would think you would have to be more invested in a cult to put up with this kind of abuse. Like If you were there in person, had relationships, you were already isolated from other support, you had already paid them $10,000 etc... but just a stranger on a cell phone?? Maybe your commentary will make it to the caller. Seems like he could benefit from it.

Steve Edge

I'll give you my emotional investment. This tit makes me fucking angry😆😆. What a ghastly individual. How can people listen to this terrible man.

Paul Ditta

I’m relieved that you don’t like the Star Wars sequels. I was starting to worry.

Sam Hall

Whenever Molyneux talks all I can think about is the Limmy sketch “that fucking accent man”

Joseph Sullivan

I stopped this before the caller acquiesced to Stefan about the father / age coincidence psychoanalytical bullshit. I don’t want to hear it. I was rooting for the caller all through part one, I don’t want to be let down. This Molyneux guy is reprehensible, I want to see him get punched in the mouth.

Hereforcranks

Listening to these two episodes would be a perfect assignment for an Abnormal Psychology class during the personality disorder unit.

Annie

I'm another one who can't make it through this. Reminds me of my ex, and it's actually heartening to hear you recoil and all the listeners here who understand how bad this is because I still don't think most people get it. The Dr K videos on YouTube are similar. It's like there's an alternate world where people think treating someone like this is helping them instead of the worst kind of emotional manipulation.

Josh Potter

Love the episode (and all your content, it helps me sleep). One point I’d like to comment on is your discussion about why the caller showed such deference etc to Stefan. To be charitable to the caller, he might have been like that because he knows Stefan’s ego is so warped that if he just steamrolled Stefan, he (the caller) would have been kicked off the call within 2 minutes. Edit: at around 40:10 mark, Chris even acknowledges that Stefan would have just cut the caller off if he blindsided Stefan.

Dries T.

Disgusting, despicable, deranged. Fuck that guy! On a positive note: tip of the hat to the Patreon who chose Old Squeaky as their nickname. Inspired ❤️

Andrew Millar

This guy is absolutely the worst guru you have covered. It’s a mixture of his temperament and on a shallow note, his voice. A terrible mix!

Shambles

Good god. I can't believe i made it to the end. Is there a special prize? Found myself pining for some nice, gentle Peterson analysis....

Shambles

Eugh. Just listening to his voice makes me feel like I've been covered in a kind of sticky film of Unpleasantness.

Matt Dear

That weird aside to the potential violent sexual fantasies of the 'nice guy' was a bit telling

Psychology in Spades

Huh, did the guys always upload the episodes on patreon ahead of time? I feel like this is the first time I'm realizing this.

Danielle Smith

That Molyneux man can just f right off. Thanks Matt and Chris for being the good, funny, smart little brothers I never had.

Grignard Girlie

Idk how you all found someone 100x more annoying than JP and the sense makers but oh my god. Oh my god.

PyroSpider

I hated this. I know I sat through two whole episodes by my own free will but this was worse torture than JP vs Russell Brand. What an awful person he is.

Matty Laycock

One of the most wretched individuals I’ve ever heard. I feel like my soul and the universe is worse for having listened to him.

Karen 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Oof. I sit and listen to a lot of terrible stuff as a therapist and this guy makes me sick to my stomach

Krista LePage

Incredibly difficult to listen to, cringe on steroids.

Kristiyan Zhekov

This conversation is just infuriating. I feel bad for the caller, but try as I might, I fail to understand why he's playing ball with the extremely obvious pivots by Molyneux. The second the conversation shifted from the topic to "you're too emotional, tell me about your father" was the time for the caller to call him out for the bad faith actor he is.

Sue Fricke

I have to bail. I can’t bear it. “Who lied to you…..” this man is revolting.

Jackie Brown

What a despicable man. Could barely get through. Terrible that so many people feel that he is someone worth listening to.

Liam

I’d love to get the caller’s right to reply. If he hears it and reaches out get him on

DudeNah

Having dealt with a SM type person in my life recently, this episode and the analysis of the gaslighting at play is painful but incredibly helpful, clarifying. Thank you!
