Yes, as a German casual listener I'm very confused by Fuentes's claim that western civilization can't be proud itself because of Nazism. It's a trope I'm very familiar with in the German context. But coming from an American? Doesn't even make sense...

My God – I always forget that Nick Fuentes sounds so much like Ben Shapiro, and that they both sound like people who are entirely unfamiliar with female sexual anatomy (which I presume is the case, and explains kind of a lot) ETA: just listened further and discovered that Nick in fact has no intimate experience with women. OMG I can't believe how juvenile Nick F is. He reminds me of my first job and my boss had this really weird adopted 16yo son who my colleague speculated potentially had a touch of fetal alcohol syndrome. And he had massive anger management issues. He attacked some other kids at his school w a baseball bat. Anyway one night I was working late alone and this 16yo boy turned up looking for his dad. And then when he realised we were alone he decided to take the opportunity to subject me to this really graphic monologue rant anout how disgusting he thought gay people were. And he was getting himself so worked up his face went red and I was actually a bit freaked out by him. Anyway that's what Nick reminds me off. But that guy was a troubled 16yo. I can't believe this from an adult!!!

Stating that we are living in a horrible political climate—after stating that jihadi terrorism is most responsible for civilian deaths—is because of Donald Trump I think might be missing the point. I suppose your main argument about us being in a bad political climate taken verbatim is true…but when it comes to stacking bodies up, I think Mohammad is likely more at fault for suffering around the world than is Donald Trump (as much as they’d high five and likely be total buds about raping young girls; ruling by force and so on).

I agree with you thoughts on the interview, but is it being perceived by others in the same way it’s being viewed by us? Everything I’ve seen on Twitter has been critical of Morgan and supportive of Fuentes, and the same is true of the YouTube comments. Before I listened to the interview, all I saw were posts about Morgan missing Fuentes’s sarcasm and ignoring his points, and I’m unsure whether this is all groyper spam, or whether conservatives are just leaning closer to Fuentes than Morgan these days.

Megan Kelly to me is like a slightly more polished version of just pearly things. I seem to remember she used to have the appearance at least of having some dignity.. It’s such a CLASSIC Guru tactic to overinflate your academic credentials while deriding the “woke SJW” capture of institutions at the same time. All the right wing / heterodox gurus do it! Ironically, Sam Harris’ website still refers to him as a neuroscientist & a philosopher. Maybe if he was really bothered by that, he would surely ask his website developers to at least remove the “neuroscientist” label right? Nah, because it’s good for business for a man who’s essentially a reactionary, culture war podcaster who does barely any research on the culture war topics that he confidently opines on! With regards to Gary, it’s funny how he does this same thing from the other side. Massively overinflates his academic credentials while also deriding the “elite” capture of academic institutions who are against the working class man like himself.

I truly enjoyed this episode. But I’m torn. Before you DTG guys floated past my radar I didn’t know sooooo many horrible people existed with such extended followings. I mean, I figured these folk were all ‘your crazy curmudgeonly uncle ‘ types. You know, one in every family type deals. Now I’m a bit depressed. Like this kid actually believes what he’s saying. He can rationalise having a mother who raised him and wanting women gagged and bound in the kitchen. He’s friends with ‘Ye’ ( cough ) but wants black people killed/incarcerated/ not dating his daughter… The discourse is a dumbing down of all ideas, like a slimy sediment filtering down through clear waters to settle on the murky bottom .

Another great Supplementary Materials episode. One thing that consistently grates on me with Sam Harris, though, is his habit of pre-emptively announcing that “this will make half the audience mad,” usually because he’s about to say something nice about Megyn Kelly (or whoever he’s currently defending on largely interpersonal grounds and very thin research). He then glibly positions himself as the lone adult in the room, bravely speaking truth from the eye of the storm. What I originally took from the New Atheist era—when I first encountered Sam—was precisely the idea that truth is not logically required to sit midway between two often highly contrived positions. Yet Sam repeatedly falls back on exactly that kind of rhetoric. I don’t know. My seventeen-year-old self from the early 2000s wants to cry a little. Weren’t you listening to Dennett and Dawkins, Sam? And why get so pissy when Dennett actually bothered to take a philosopher’s look at that little free-will book of yours? It’s not too late, Sam! Your rational, non-existent soul can still be saved!

Great episode. I have to say being exposed to Nick Fuentes is an emotionally challenging experience. I literally exist because despite Hitler’s best efforts my grandparents survived the death camps while large branches of their own families were gassed, starved and shot to death by the fucking Nazis. I really hope karma will find its way to this holocaust denying piece of scum.
