Hi everyone,

For anyone interested, I will be presenting tonight at the Asian Cultural Evolution Seminar Series on my academic topic of interest: Ritual Psychology & Collective Rituals.

For anyone interested, it will be accessible online on Zoom at 7pm JST time.

This is the Zoom link: https://riken-jp.zoom.us/j/99557336506?pwd=9u41Kbtk0aZiRLBNaFFV6UTNvhXolD.1Meeting ID: 995 5733 6506Passcode: 4K0Q0bDApZThe abstract is in the image. This talk will also involve research Matt was involved with (doing data analysis), so he makes a cameo on a slide.

The presentation will be academic in tone, so adjust expectations accordingly.

Can’t make the time but would watch if it’s recorded.

Will you be recording this Chris? I’m very interested in rituals also, especially around end of life, but have to work at that time.

Drew

Definitely interested if recorded

Joe Euro

Ditto everyone else - would love to watch a recording 😃

Thanks for the invite Chris! I went along and watched - super interesting and presented like a pro (tech issues are part of the academic mystique)

By randomness it was the brief mention (as a young field that could strive to avoid past errors re replication crisis) of CSR that led me to the most interesting follow up/rabbit hole. I feel I should have picked up on that (Cognitive Science of Religion) in earlier talks with Manvir or other stuff. Very interesting looking at how the selection of cognitive features picked out by CSR applies to nominally secular thinking like conspiratorial ideation. Hyperactive agency detection, promiscuous teleology and to a certain extent, minimally counterintuitive concepts (from a pre-existing ideology pov) all appear relevant to conspiracy mongering and consumption

I wish I could have attended, but I was asleep. 😴 Based on reading the abstract, I think I recall you talking about some of these ideas before about the different types of rituals people prefer doing, depending on the situations they are in, and it made a lot of sense. I was going to talk about rituals in class this week. Alas, the snow and ice spirits intervened.

Chris, sorry I missed this, but I would definitely listen to the recording if one is available

Missed it as I was sleeping. Hoping like others have expressed that you can release a recording. I bet you rocked the place.

Did you record it? I would love to hear it. The subject matter and your academic focus is so interesting
