We return for Part 2 of our coverage of “Professor” Jiang, the internet’s favourite new geopolitical prophet, secondary-school sage, and proud owner of an ever-expanding box of educational props. Having already treated us to multiple maps, chess pieces, and a sealed metal case of predictions, Jiang is back with more predictions, more props, and even higher-level insights.

This time, we get the dramatic unveiling of a fresh batch of forecasts, including the forthcoming U.S. civil war, AI surveillance states, a grand bargain with China, the Greater Israel project, and the coming East Asian conflict. During all of this, we pause to consider Jiang’s status as a Beijing-based geopolitical commentator who manages to be just critical enough of Chinese surveillance to sound daring, but yet is most reliably focused on predictions of imminent Western collapse, American hubris, and the doom of the U.S. empire.

But the real journey begins when Jiang sets the geopolitics aside and invites us into Plato’s Allegorical Cave, updating it for the modern era by linking it to Korean television melodramas. Out come ominous black blocks, stacked into a metaphorical tower of global control: the military-industrial complex, the financiers, the World Bank, the WTO, the media, Hollywood, schools, universities, and culture itself. What started as “predictive history” devolves into an Alex Jones-style conspiratorial rant about international financiers, globalist bankers, controlled media, and brave alternative truth-tellers seeing through the mainstream lies.

The alternative media occupies a Schrödinger-like position in Jiang’s system: corrupted and controlled when it suits his narrative but also brave and rebellious when it is giving a platform to people like Jiang. Stephen Bartlett, meanwhile, fulfils his podcasting duty as a perfectly crafted avatar of the Diary of a CEO audience: curious, credulous and very receptive to the message that the system is rigged, the shadows are fake, and you, dear listener, are one of the brave truth-seekers with the courage to listen and look behind the curtain.

Finally, we also reach Cosmic Jiang. The bankers are at war with the tech bros. Reality is consciousness. Matter is vibration. We are all fragments of God returning to Source. Hermetic philosophy explains Plato. Kabbalah explains the Middle East. Israel is trying to force the hand of God. The world will end; paradise will return. It turns out all of that geopolitical analysis was actually just a sideshow...

So join us for the conclusion of Professor Jiang: a masterclass in massive domino-based reasoning, geopolitical dressing on bog-standard conspiracy theory, and the enduring appeal of intellectual junk food.

I thought I was going to have to wait longer for part two. Thank you so much. This will give me something to do over the holiday weekend as I celebrate 250 years, and wonder how we get through the next 2.5.

Paul Ditta

Oh no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no…not two. Not in one day. Maybe tomorrow. Late tomorrow. Like, after seven. PM. Possibly Thursday. I can still hear him in my head.

Linda Sears

This will be the icing on the cake of part one. I’m looking forward to the Plato part since it got me to ranting when I listened to it.

Karen 🇨🇦🇺🇸

In this episode we learn that Jaing is either a propaganda unit or doesn’t understand how surveillance works.

Linda Sears

I’m so confused by his predictions. First he says that the U.S. will be in an endless war with Iran, and then he says the U.S. will leave the Middle East, which will lead to the Greater Israeli project.

Linda Sears

To Matt’s comment that Jiang’s interpretation of Plato was novel, I’ve had students who wanted to view the Allegory that way. The heroic truth teller letting the people know they are being hoodwinked by sinister, hidden puppet masters is way more seductive and entertaining than the revelation that the physical world is not as real as the eternal, unchanging forms.

Jiang is like Milhouse in the treehouse is a giggle for the ages

kurdelis

Why bother with Lebanon and Syria if you can get straight to a NATO member country and absorb that

kurdelis

Jiang's lectures might be the Korean TV drama he described, and he's probably the audience too

Linda Sears

If I heard it correctly, he said if Taiwan is peacefully unified with China, then Japan will have no choice but to make war. He definitely did not make China sound like it had ambitions for a violent takeover.

Shambles

Anyone remember the Harry Enfield character "Tim Nice But Dim"? This sounds like Tim Nice But Dim interviewing Elmer Fudd.

NaughtiusMaximus

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I seem to remember Professor Dave having a video on him and there was a bit where he claimed telepathy was responsible for his predictions.

Emma

I suspect the real reason you decoded this guy is to show off how smart Matt is! The plato thing. 🥸

Joanna Mulvaney

is he writing on a chalk board? is that what i’m hearing? wtf?

Nancy Hale

Jiang has a pretty typical trajectory for a lot of online gurus. Start out with a mildly interesting and unique angle that draws in people. But in the end it turns out to be the same old conspiracy theories. Something of a bait and switch.

Shambles

Were you guys drunk at the end of that? Not judging obvs.

Lucy

Diary of a CEO is like a lobotomy in podcast form.

Chomagerider

To comment on the "total digital surveillance" in China. This is very close to the "social credit system" that folks like Joe Rogan and hawks like Ben Shapeepee like like waffle on about. It's nowhere near what they think it is. Surveillance is super pervasive here, yes. But his version is grotesque. But yes, he's probably on the radar of the united front.

Chomagerider

And I haven't finished yet, but so far his take that china doesn't want to be a "global" hegemon (and the emphasis really is on global here) a la USA is one his more defensible takes.

Dries T.

Yet again, as with Jordan Peterson, Eric Weinstein, Keith Raniere, L. Ron Hubbard, Curtis Yarvin, Blindboy and so many others, I just find myself thinking "who the fuck falls for this?!" I appreciate I am not the target audience here, and sorry if this sounds naive and/or elitist, but I genuinely don't get how anyone finds these rants convincing. It does depress me about as much as it amazes me though.

Claudia

I have to admit, my favorite part is usually at the end, after that truly hilarious supercut, when the conversation fades into the outro... - Go to the west and diminish! ... Or is it the east? - It's the west. But I wish I was diminishing. I'm not. I'm spreading. Mostly around the middle. - Yeah, like too much jam spread over butter. Ah, bread. - Too many second breakfasts. - You rescued that reference there... Good job anyway. Comedy gold!

The more I encounter these conspiracy theorists more boring they become, because they usually circulate same few stories. After hearing the story few times you basically can tell how the theory goes based on first sentence.. I remember watching "conspiracy documentary" called Zeitgeist when I was in my teens and very little have changed during 20 years. "Documentary" had three parts, in first they debunked Christianity and in the second part it had 9/11 conspiracy stuff. However in the last part was about how the money is fake, because it's created by the central banks and world is actually ruled by Rothschilds, Rockefellers and House of Windsor. Only difference with Jiangs story is that he left Rockefeller, Rothschilds and royals. Maybe these families aren't so famous anymore, so you can't just name drop them.

Ryan O'Rourke

One good thing about Jiang's talk about the cave allegory is that it gave me an excuse to flex my Catholic high school education and explain the difference between transubstantiation and consubstantiation to my preteen daughter.

Chomagerider

I find this guy as annoying and clownish as the next person, but I'm a bit surprised by how the boys talked about his points about Japan and Taiwan. Geopolitically, he isn't actually far off. Takaichi said pretty much this exact same thing in late 2025, which is precisely what triggered the massive diplomatic spat and trade friction we're seeing between Beijing and Tokyo right now. She explicitly warned that a blockade or military action against Taiwan could constitute a "survival-threatening situation" for Japan, legally opening the door for Japanese military intervention under their collective self-defense laws. Furthermore, his analysis of Taiwan as the crucial link in the First Island Chain is standard strategic doctrine. If that chain is broken, it gives China a massive advantage for deep-water power projection into the Western Pacific and beyond. There is a reason Tokyo views this as an existential issue. Now, the absolute certainty with which he presents his "predictions" is ridiculous and deserves to be mocked. None of this means a military invasion is set in stone, especially since Beijing's stated priority remains peaceful reunification. But the general context he’s describing is close to the actual reality on the ground.

Lucyna

Maybe his target audience is young people (men) that have very minimal geopolitical issues - ones that are just getting interested in politics.

Elissa

Could Jiang be a shadow Beijing apologist? How very dare you even look in that direction! Jiang is a shill for no one - donchaknow he walks alone.

Elissa

Taking over South Korea is like taking candy from a baby … 😗 I’m paraphrasing here…I think … or did he actually say that out loud and mean it? This man is an inflammatory remarks machine. I feel like he’s injected the antidote before he starts, so he’s able to bat bullshit happily while it seeps into our ears almost unnoticed.

Sam Morris

I'm have not rolled my eyes or grunt-sighed as much since Curtis Yarvin.

Elias Bjaaland

Listened to both parts back to back in my trip home from Norway to Sweden, and I'm glad you cleared the professor's good name and found no faults in his thinking. On a more serious note, these episodes almost felt like I'm being gaslit by the guy in how confidantly he asserts everything.

What's That Noise?

Ah shit am I going to have to learn how to play chess to understand this?

Philip Grant

"You can knock it down now" [hollow plasticky sound of the blocks falling down] This is superbly Partridge!

Ben Godek

Reading the predictions from the briefcase is so weird. It doesn’t matter for predictions you’re making now! It’s the same as just saying them!

Philip Grant

Did Matt say "hummus insurance dynamics"?

Portimex

Why stop at professor? There must be a title beyond that. Especially one that doesnt leverage the corrupt, gatekeeping institutions.

Linda Sears

I appreciated Matt’s comment that Jiang relies on causes that “force” a nation to do something as the basis of his predictions. Once you realize that his whole geopolitical perspective is based on “this nation is in this situation and must do x because that nation did y,” it is easier to see why he is appealing and to also realize why he could be so wrong.

Trees

It's depressing that so many people fall for this bullshit.

Lucyna

Oh, how nice of China to do let Taiwan conflict be for a slight Japanese convenience.

Monica B.

I love love love the decodings of overly confident freakazoid dudes I have never heard of and hope to never hear of again!!!

Rob

This guy is truly a nutcase. He sounds harmless when broken down like this as he is obviously FOS, but I think the problem is that not everyone breaks it down like this. I at least probably wouldn't have. I would have just switched off at the crazy part but might have been left thinking he was probably right about the geopolitics given his confidence and that I don't know better. So with the crazy stuff, he's just throwing it all against the wall to see what sticks and will then tweak to become even more compelling to spout more BS in the future and capture more followers.
