Due to Patreon vote democracy...Our next Guru is Jimmy Carr, the British comedian, British panel-show veteran and recent podcast bloviator. For anyone unfamiliar with him, he is known for quick one-liners and a distinctive laugh.

We’ll be covering Carr’s three-hour-plus(!) appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. So yes, we are once again inflicting long-form Joe Rogan on Matt.

Please respect his privacy at this difficult time.

He’s a comedian, but with a British accent, so he’s.. smart?! He must be worth listening to!

RareTripleBait

Should be the most boring and most predictable episode everrr

Guruacolyte

Drinking game: take a sip every time he says "that thing of".

Jonas

Looking forward to it. Wish Sean Lock was still alive to take the piss out of him as well

John

Love the idea. I’ve been following, on and off, Jimmy’s embrace of gurudom for some time now. He’s a big fan of the older Weinstein brother who he once described as the smartest person he’s ever met

Jens Møllerhøj

Comedians thinking joke logic is real logic is an interesting phenomenon though

i'm dissLexick

Jimmy sounds like hes completed every self help book ever written and just repeats it all.

Sari

The fascinating part about this conversation is that I feel like I'm privy to some kind of bro-ish locker room talk, when they know no women are around. But get me out, please! This stuff shouldn't be broadcast

Colin Fardey

I think there are alot of similarities with Jimmy and Russell Brand . Behaviour wise . Both very easliy lead . Jimmy was a devout Christian then a very outspoken Athiest rationalist type and now he has a thing for podcast bros , meaning and Jordan Peterson. Seem to just go which way the wind blows in his environment at the time.

Theic

A distinctive laugh? Yes! A really annoying laugh, but someone once told him ‘that’s a distinctive laugh’ so he cultivated it

jss

Ain’t watching that. Sorry you have to

Chris A A

He may have the most cosmetic surgery of any guru yet

Clive Clifton

Is his guruesuqe activity aimed at an entirely different audience to his comedy? His output strongly linked to channel 4 a self consciously liberal and alternative institution, whilst this stuff seems like thinly veiled muscular Christian platertudes repackaged for the podcast Bro circuit.

thefriz

Is this going to ruin my experience of watching Big Fat Quiz of the Year? Lol

Linda Sears

I try to be a good dog and watch or listen to the decoding content. I even listened to the whole Matthew McConaughey thing. But this might be a bridge too far. I feel you, Matt.

Linda Sears

Nobody talks about motherhood. Feminists don’t talk about motherhood? Ummm.

JustMe

Ugh. I first saw this guy on Neal Brennan’s Blocks podcast (they are besties); didn’t see a lot of red-flags then (though that podcast has definite horseshoe potential.)

Linda Sears

I don’t know, Joe, playing Call of Duty and not getting maimed, killed, or traumatized by seeing something horrible happen to your army buddy may be another reason to prefer it to engaging in actual war. And I thought they were pro-playing? This conversation is too meandering with too many statements of this is true with no backup that I have to bail.

Doll House

another boy talking to joe

ValueSoup

I used to watch a lot of comedy shows, but not anymore. Since #MeToo, comedians like Carr, Gervais, and Chappelle have increasingly used their comedy specials as venues to complain about cancel culture and censorship. Show after show of people clapping in agreement rather than laughing, while the man on stage in front of thousands of people and millions of home viewers complains endlessly about not having enough freedom of speech. 🙄

LaserRange

my sincerest condolences Matt: I couldn't do it

Password1234!

I've been watching at 2.3x speed but I was cringing so hard, so frequently, that I was afraid I was beginning to form a black hole - so I'm breaking at the halfway point 🤣

beesneeze

Always amazes me when people say men are risk-takers and women are not. 100% of women are expected to reproduce, an enterprise with a significant risk of death and disability, even when things go well. Men just ejaculate and go on about their day. Women are judged on their parenting and the people their children become, even if they cure cancer or usher in world peace; the absent or deadbeat dad is not ostracised or vilified, and is only held responsible for messed-up progeny as the passive donor of defective genes. Remind me again which is the risk-taking gender, and which is just stupid with cars?

Ryan Bruno

Can a comedian be a guru? 🤔

George

It's interesting how he uses facts and quotes like punchlines. Yet Joe, for all his dumbfounding idiocy, seems to have more independent takes on things than Jimmy who just appears to be reciting 'that thing of' other people's thoughts.

George

Funniest joke in the whole episode is the line about Eric Weinstein being "the smartest guy we know"

Frances goulart

Sorry. Is there any guru potential here? Not hearing it.

Dank Sparrow

To keep it fun I only focused on recording only the names being dropped I left the logic up to Hermes... ! Eric Weinstein, Chris Williamson, Tony Hinchcliffe, JD Vance, Hitch, David Deutsche, Peter McGraw who Joe knows but forgot, Steven Fry, Chris Rock, Elon Musk who sadly pays too much in taxes, Taylor Swift also pays too much tax, Dave Chappelle to McRib to Yellow Springs to UBI, Marc Andreson very quantum, Coon Popper, Eric Weinstein again, Townsend Brown?, Eric again and again, Bernie Maddoff, Eric, Aliens, Trump is like a substitute teacher, Tom O'Neil, Rick "The Best' Rubin, Charles Manson, noted paranormal Dr Harold Puthoff of Stanford, Richard Dawkins x2, multiple shout outs to the right brain, Marc Andresson quantum is the craziest quantum, Woody 'The Best' Harrelson, Richard Bacon, Bill Murray, Ari Shaffir, Norm MacDonald, Greg Geraldo, Ari

Dcc

matt and chris should play carrot in a box

Rich F

Strayed a bit towards trad-wife territory there. Ostensibly celebrating moms, but in Joe's case using that as a springboard into identifying the wishes of women to occupy elected/senior positions as "greedy". Joe's take is definitely influenced by the knobheads he's mates with and his bullshit rightwing touchstones, but tbf Jimmy didn't take the chat down that road. Some credit due i think. Also Rogans referencing of a historical comedy "bit" he used to do... Was it funny? or good? Reader, it was not. Oh great. E. Weinstein. Genius. Uh huh. Sure thing, Jim.

Rich F

Oys mate been as painful to experience as I heard it might be... so far. I probably won't complete this assignment

Charles Bessen

Joe seems to be much worse than Jimmy here. He just keeps driving the conversation into conspiracy and nonsense analysis. While Jimmy is his yes man. Not sure it’s necessarily Guru level power from Jimmy.

Da Jay SwIzzle

Sometimes doing your homework sucks what a vapid conversation

Sam Morris

I have never listened to Rogan before. I feel quite shocked by how utterly and relentlessly dull it is.

Reservoir Frog

“Oh god Jimmy Carr is an absolute melt” - my mate Conor.

phaiqllama

Sorry, I can't do my homework. I lasted 15min. There are few things I would rather not do than listen to JR. Can I get some bonus points for trying? Looking forward to the analysis tho'.

Sam Morris

God it's so unendingly dull. I've never watched a full episode of Rogan. It's like an endurance test.
