LINE WEBTOON FORMAT

COLOR:

The colors for page 62 of Bawdy Falls are now complete. Dipper and Mabel finish their first quickie together that didn't include Pacifica present to supervise.

As mentioned in the lines for the next page, I've decided to go with JPEG for these pages. There's no loss in quality due to how the lines and colors are done, it saves some space as it makes the files a bit smaller, and I find that in many image viewers I find it actually looks better due to not having the lines appear too sharp, which was something bothering me in PNG format.

LINES:

Bawdy Falls is back in action, and here are the lines for page 62 to get things rolling again. Things are picking up where it left off last time with Dipper and Mabel finishing up after one more quickie in the study room.

I said before that on top of going for a different format that I'd also be a bit looser with my lines and make them for a lower resolution, and while I did work with that in mind, I went with a rougher pen tool and upped the resolution. This means that while I still plan to work in the way that I intended (by refusing to zoom in too much while I work), the export resolution will be a bit bigger than I initially planned. This will lead to the full resolution images being rather large at 3700x6400, instead of the normal 2500x3500, but the intended export resolution is only 925x1600. It just so happens that with the textured pen tool it still looks relatively clean due to the rough nature of the tool making it very easy to continue lines where they left off, so it probably won't look all that sloppy at full size. I'll still be uploading the full resolution images to Patreon, however, so you'll get the full 3700x6400, but once I have a colored page done I will be making a separate post for compiling the pages closer to their intended resolution.

The purpose for doing a separate post is that I'm making these pages to be viable to read in two navigation methods, which is why the format change. The page formats will be a bit simpler, but that's so that it maintains a more consistent top to bottom layout for more web linetoon style reading. The comics can still be read by navigating pages left and right, but they'll also now work for vertical scrolling, which is how I plan to line them up in the separate post. Lots of people seem to like that format, and it's very good for mobile devices, which now makes up over half of internet traffic, so I like the idea of providing the option since these are intended for digital reading.

I missed Mabel a lot :3 nice to have her back, but no2 makes me wonder if Pacifica is not going to get jealous because of Mabel.

I'm sure Pacifica's quite jealous already, given how difficult it was to pull herself away when it was time to leave.

Hey, I've been mentioning for a while now that I was going to alternate between ES and BF, and the last few updates have had mentions of time to swap drawing near.

JPG? Not PNG? Why?

incognitymous

I actually explained in the description above for the colors. With the style used in this there's no positive gain from using PNG over JPEG. It makes the image roughly a whole MB larger, but actually looks worse overall because some image viewers, including Microsoft Photos, cause stronger pixelation of lines when scaling down such high resolution PNGs. This is especially problematic when using a textured pen tool for the full resolution file. Saving in a lossless format is only better when JPEG would cause a loss in information, which in a cel shaded style doesn't actually typically happen unless you intentionally increase file compression during export.
