Whenever it comes to Damon, there is also important things to note between the difference when it comes to how Elena responds to him, this goes all the way back to season 1 and the road trip. She had just found out about Katherine looking like her, Stefan being dishonest with her, and her heart being broken over this. Then he saves her life. He made her take a time out from her life for a day, free from worrying and even guilt, and this is also the start of seeing how another woman views him and see this other side of him she never considered at this point in time. She has actual fun during this time with him, she is just more free around Damon, no worries, no concerns in this moment. It goes back to what she said to Stefan in Episode 2 during the Comet, We met, and we talked, and it was epic, but...then the sun came up and reality set in. She had an Epic moment with Damon, away from her reality, but then they had to go back and reality set in again once they returned. He didn't compel her because they were having fun and he it wanted it to be real, e.g. reality and epic. Then we start to see this slow progress of events that take place, the biggest moment in Season 2, after all that took place at the start of season 2 is also one of the biggest and best foreshadowing scenes in the series during the 60s dance. Yet, in this scene we see Stefan eventually pass Elena on to Damon, they all worried about Klaus, and then she has this conversation with Damon, who is able to make her laugh, make her feel good about the situation, and free her from worrying about what would happen, that they would get through this, and eventually he does the dance move with her that allows her to have fun at the same time, something she generally has to beg Stefan to do so she can have fun with him. Now, of course during this was the dramatic matter with Bonnie, and she getting upset with him, yet his plan worked. This is were that trust eventually comes from, he did everything right, to protect her, to protect Bonnie, and keeping his promise that they would make it through this and everyone would be okay when they were dancing together. Why did Elena answer yes to trusting him so quickly...the reasons is right here. There is also the fact of the matter, that goes all the way back to Season 1 and then progresses, all the secrets and stuff that Stefan kept hiding from her, and continued to do so, how many of Stefan's secrets did she discover on her own via journal, or even through Damon. He was only open and honest with Elena and who was and his own history, when he was basically forced to reveal something to her. Stefan kept setting himself up to appear as this perfect person to her, eventually this image keeps getting eroded away. All the while there is Damon, he admits to being imperfect, more honest and open about who he is as person. He doesn't hide the fact that yes he is a killer from to time and it's part of being a vampire, while Stefan during the initial time sets up himself to be not a killer that he isn't that type of person, and this also paints this bad image of Damon as well. This goes back to what Matt said to Stefan, she is big on honesty and some other things in season 1, I can't remember exact wording. There is also another matter to remember and you see this as you rewatch the series, it goes back to her and Stefan talking in the first episode as to why she broke up with Matt, and that is passion. When you watch Stelena scenes in the first 2 seasons, they are cute, adorable, and even sweet, but passionate? They lack a certain passion, the first glimpse of this passion they show on the screen is the Miss Mystic Falls dance between Damon and Elena. This passion between the two of them can start being seen more and more as time goes on with their scenes together.
