The first flashback reading the book is funny because Chloe memed the fans that "the first person" was a suspect, it's what fans has always said almost, and Ella's shirt is spot on.

IMO, Ella's story should have been either left without knowing or what Amy Garcia showed when Amenadiel flew. Faith continued or faith confirmed/rewarded. Ella figures it out on her own and is hurt felt contrived to me.

I don't think Chloe really doubted Luci but Rory is adamant and KNOWS that Lucifer left them so it is only natural that Chloe is struggling to understand how this could happen. Linda's book reminded her how many times Luci had left and she admitted later that when she had thought more, as she said herself, she was scared- who wouldn't be? Rory has dropped a bombshell on them both. I loved all the book 'scenes' which were so funny but yet in among the craziness were always elements of the truth from their past, as Luci and as we fans perceived them...lots of callbacks to previous seasons. I thought that was very cleverly done to remind us as you said, how much we love the Show and are invested in the characters and story.

That is not the only thing that felt contrived in this episode, and this season in general. I'm actually disappointed that they renewed this show for another season. Still, a great show as a whole.
