🇱🇧 The Abeer Nehme journey continues LIVE! After exploring Kil Ma T’illi, Ya Tayr and Ya Tara on YouTube, we’re continuing with two complete extended performances, bringing a choir and a different concert setting into our discovery!
We’re starting with Lama Bada Yatathana with the National Arab Orchestra and UMS Choral Union, followed by Ghanni Qalilan at Cairo Opera House. That’s over 21 minutes of performance footage before my commentary, including the complete ten-minute orchestra-and-choir arrangement and the full eleven-minute Cairo performance!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel! ❤️
First up is لما بدا يتثنى (Lama Bada Yatathana), recorded at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor in 2022. This classic from the Arabic muwashshah tradition describes being captivated by a beloved’s beauty and graceful movement, and the longing that follows. Michael Ibrahim’s arrangement brings together Abeer, the National Arab Orchestra and the UMS Choral Union, giving us a new choral dimension after the orchestral performances we explored on YouTube.
Then we’re heading to Cairo Opera House for غنّي قليلاً (Ghanni Qalilan), accompanied by the Cine Symphony Orchestra under Ahmed Oweda. With words by Joseph Harb and music by Marcel Khalife, the song follows a lonely speaker who turns to birdsong for comfort, then asks for silence when that same song deepens their sorrow. Across this extended performance, we’ll follow those changing emotions and hear Abeer move between intimate expression and operatic singing.
Let me know which performance stood out most to you, which lyrics or musical details I should pay attention to, and which Abeer song or live performance I should experience next! 🇱🇧❤️
