Mame- Thank you so much for watching and reacting to this musical adaptation of Auntie Mame, simply titled... Mame, for me, Jessie!! You are absolutely right about not liking this adaptation any more or less than Auntie Mame. Both movies are phenomenal for what they are, and not one is better than the other! :) Lucille Ball is once again fabulous, just like Rosalind Russell, as Mame!! I have loved Lucille Ball ever since I grew up watching her in I Love Lucy! My parents had some of the big episodes of I Love Lucy on VHS, which I watched over and over, and then I also watched this classic on television a lot too!! I have loved and adored Lucille Ball as Lucy for as long as I can remember. But I have also seen her in many more movies, including Mame, and I love her so much! I love her as Mame! And yes... Robert Preston, the one and only Music Man from The Music Man, is absolutely wonderful as Beauregard Jackson Pickett Burnside!! I do enjoy him a bit more than Forrest Tucker in Auntie Mame, but this is only because I absolutely love The Music Man, another classic musical I grew up with and have loved since I was a little girl!! And Robert Preston is a phenomenal actor whom I am very familiar with in a number of older movies. And yes... Once again, Beau dies in a similar yet different, but equally bizarre kind of way here in Mame too, and it's sad, but I am always happy to see Robert Preston! :) And then we have the phenomenal and absolutely hilarious, Bea Arthur as Vera Charles!! You mentioned you recognized this actress, but you didn't look her up. At least not while watching this movie. Bea Arthur is most famous for her role as Dorothy Zbornak in the classic television sitcom... The Golden Girls! Another classic show I grew up watching for as long as I can remember, just like I Love Lucy! Bea Arthur is absolutely hilarious in a number of other shows, like Maude, and in other movies too, but I very much love her here in Mame as Vera Charles too!! Once again, Vera's relationship with Mame is fabulous and so funny too!! And I absolutely love their song they sing together... Bosom Buddies, in which they go back and forth insulting one another in the way they always do without taking offense to the insults. So much fun! This is one of my favorite songs throughout this movie for sure! Once again... Both Kirby Furlong (younger) and Bruce Davison (older) as Patrick are great too!! I know Bruce Davison in a number of movies including the first two X-Men movies, and he's a good actor. But I love both of these actors in the roles of younger and older Patrick. Same as the other two actors from Auntie Mame. And just like with Patrick in Auntie Mame, I love Mame's and Patrick's relationship in this movie too!! As for my other favorite songs aside from Bosom Buddies... I love Open a New Window sung by Mame and the whole ensemble at various times throughout this movie, as well as Mame sung by Robert Preston and ensemble, Loving You sung by Robert Preston, and My Best Girl sung by Mame and Patrick. But all of the songs in this musical are delightful too! I do enjoy all of the changes in this movie compared to what we see in Auntie Mame. I do wish that Mame was written to write her book in this movie too. Although, i am very happy this movie left out the character of Brian O'Bannion, the ghost writer. I also love that this movie has Mame buying the home across from the Upsons for single pregnant women so that they have a place to call home and a family, because Lucille Ball was such an activist for women. As much as I appreciated Auntie Mame making it a home for refugees in Auntie Mame too. Overall... I love this classic musical very much, just as much as I love Auntie Mame too!! I love all of the characters and their actors, and I love all of the fun music throughout this movie too!! So, thank you once again for reacting to Mame for me, Jessie!! You're amazing, my dear friend!! :) Sincerely, Heidi
