Ah. This episode. Good riddance. I know you enjoyed the first part of season 3 (our trio taken prisoners) but for those of us who were watching live, that was the low point of the series. We were extremely frustrated that not only were we not getting answers to what the island was, but that new mysteries were being raised faster than new answers were being provided. It just felt like the show was treading water and just making things up as they went along. And to add insult to injury, they introduced new characters like these two idiots, which we felt was taking away time from existing characters. We want to learn more about Ben, Juliet, etc. We want to understand the kind of story we are in. We did NOT need to start developing new characters at the beach, characters whose attractiveness made it clear that were very obviously created to attract new and younger viewers. Audiences basically revolted, there was a huge backlash, and the show runners were effectively forced to kill them off. Further, the studio set a time table for the end of the series, which allowed the writers to properly plan out the rest of the show. So yeah, good riddance!

This episode was for a very long time considered as one of the worst episodes of Lost. People HATED it. They hated it just because Paolo and Nikki were the main characters. When both of them were introduced in the 3rd season, the writers tried to ret-con them and expected the fans to believe that they were always there in the background but no one ever recognized them, hence the flashback scenes. It failed spectecularly. Fans in the Lost forums hated them or ridiculed them. It really did not work out, so the writers decided to get rid of them. And because those 2 were so hated, their episode was hated too. But to be honest, its a really fun episode and the hate of them is one of the earlier examples of how the internet can overeact and hate someone off the charts.

I remember watching this season of LOST when it was airing and being very frustrated by the amount of wheel spinning, this is probably the ultimate example of the show absolutely refusing to make any forward progress. On a rewatch, when I dont have to wait weeks for answers however, episodes like this are a lot more fun (I'll still never rewatch the one about how jack got his tattoos though). RIP Nina and Pablo

The actor in the beginning was Billy Dee Williams, who's primarily known for playing Lando Calrissian in the original Star Wars trilogy. I can really recommend these movies, I'm sure you would like them a lot. :-) "The pigs are walking" is apparently a reference to Animal Farm, although a fairly obscure one. I've read that book twice and still didn't catch the reference until I looked it up now.

I really love this episode tbh. I understand if you watched it weekly it would get kinda frustrating especially after the cliffhanger from the previous, but its such a fun filler. Maybe i'm used to it from buffy?? And bring back longer seasons!! 2-3 year wait for 8 episodes is crazy nowadays. Also i guess this is not completely a huge filler because of charlie's reveal to sun. It does affect there characters moving forward.

the "promise we'll never end up like them" to shannon and boone's "relationship" in the airport alluding to all of their deaths... and you're totally right, that juliet and ben scene in the pearl could have been an email i'm so glad you really enjoyed this episode because when I first watched it was kind of annoying because I just wanted to get to more of the mysteries and main plots, but on rewatch, this one is super fun and I always love seeing scenes from earlier seasons with new information!

So glad you enjoyed this episode! A lot of people aren't big fans of it but I think it's so fun. It's just a fun little murder mystery story in the middle of our little dramatic island show.

Nikki first gets to play a guest star who dies in Exposé, then pretty much the same thing happens in Lost. I'm not so sure Paolo actually did it for fear of losing Nikki. If he did, why not get rid of the diamonds? He kept them with him, on his body even. That's something you do with things that are important to you. And what if he and Nikki wanted to get physical, she'd find them immediately.

Love this ep. Loved it when I first saw it when it aired, love it now. So did a lot of people I know; it's a myth everyone hated this ep. Season 3 is so good

Quite a fun episode! The script is very fun...and, at times, very "wink, wink" clever. Like when Zuckerman (the creator of "Expose") says to Nikki, "You know, you don't need to die. We can bring you back next season." and Nikki says, "I'm just a guest star and we all know what happens to guest stars." And when after killing Zuckerman Nikki says to Paulo, "We poisoned him, let's not poison ourselves..." And at the airport after hearing Shannon and Boone arguing when Nikki says, "Promise me we'll never end up like them." (Oh, you mean dead and buried on the beach perhaps??) And what exactly did Locke mean when he told Paulo "Things don't stay buried on this island" ?

So funny that they retconned all of those past scenes to add Nikki and Paolo to them, just to kill them off in some 'logical' way. How much budget must have went to rewrite and reshoot, just to get rid of them.
