Lyrical Kell of Music

After the triple drop, will MHA come back the following Saturday then ?

hoodie

Fun fact: the purple haired girl's name, fern, means "distant " in german. Just like that rock!

Limini

"it's going to turn violent/cruel" the jjk PTSD is so real 😂😂😂😂

HBelmont67

MHA Triple Drop coming up! WHOOO!

HBelmont67

Thankfully, this show is NOTHING like JJK. 😅

HBelmont67

Frieren can call Heiter a "corrupt priest" all she wants and he may laugh it off. But Heiter's a straight up SAINT for saving Fern the way he did and taking her in.

HBelmont67

Haha, they've both already started liking Frieren's dub voice. 😏

HBelmont67

A way to keep track of time in this show is Fern's age. She was born eleven years after Himmel's death in the pilot episode, and it will say how long it's been after that event at the start of each episode. So just subtract that number by eleven and you'll know how long it's been, as well as Fern's age. For example, after Heiter's death this episode, it says it was 26 years after the death of Himmel the Hero, putting Fern at age 15.

Rexus

The reaction from Kenny in that one small scene, he probably has a thought brewing up now

StorytellerDave

So interesting to see Frieren and Heiter's interactins this episodes. Her crying so that Heiter would make as many memories as possible before he dies reflects so much on her feeling that she did not make enough memories with Himmel before he died. She doesn't want Heiter to repeat her mistake.

Limini

I watched the first 4 ep together so I never noticed how aimless the first few ep are

Limini

35:27 "there's no urgency" a hundred percent frieren

HBelmont67

Glad Kenny finally recognized Himmel as Connie and Bakugo. 😅

HBelmont67

Uhh, why'd it say the next episode was coming Wednesday?

Letts React

Must have forgotten to change the graphic, I finished editing this 1 minute before posting haha

yob

for some reason the rewatch makes me more teary eyed than the first watch like bro why am I crying over flowers💀

Yuion

When animes have multiple episode season starts its usually because they know its too slow and they want to get to a certain point that kickstarts the story+

Hanna

Frieren means „to freeze“ or „to be cold“ in German. Himmel means „sky“ or „heaven“. Heiter means „jolly“ or „jovial“ Eisen (the dwarfs name) means „iron“ Fern is the plant in English, but means „far away“ in German.

Vince92

So. Much. Overanalyzing!! Guys when it comes to this show, there’s no hidden meanings or mysteries to solve that aren’t directly mentioned in the dialogue. Just relax and enjoy the ride

HBelmont67

That is straight up untrue, my guy. And even if it was, you should know that's not how these two operate.

Hawk

I think the situation with Frieren and Fern's motivation for magic is a lot simpler and spelled out. She started collecting random little folk spells because it impressed Himmel and the hobby stuck because it reminds her of him. Fern chose magic over anything else because Heiter praised her first spell with the illusory butterflies. And it stuck, becoming defining. They're both doing magic not for power, but out of affection for loved ones.

Hawk

Perhaps a core thesis of Frieren starting to develop: "Mindfulness of the present, and how the people in our lives impact our perspective."

Limini

keep overanalyzing while a lot is face on, a lot is also really subtle and only implied, especially when it comes to world building in future episodes

Addy

montana’s smirk every time they say blue moon weed is killing me

Addy

Maybe there isn’t a super villain orchestrated plan but there is a lot of deeper meaning, themes, and character development in frieren! You can enjoy and analyze :)

Hawk

I think it's more "don't lose the text looking for subtext". A peril we all face.

HBelmont67

Okay, that I can understand

L.C.

Frieren and Fern both chose magic specifically because it was something that they could use to make the ones around them happy. You are gonna miss out on a lot of detailing if you aren't able to pick up on the indirect messaging the story is giving its audience. Although that isn't anything new for most reactors. They tend to only look at the surface level and not understand the indirect and deeper meaning of the series. A 2nd time rewatch helps out a lot though since you are given all the context and basic detailing of the story. I still think you are trying to look at it a bit too much on the side of a typical shonen jump anime. This is not a shonen jump anime like MHA, JJK, DBZ etc.... I guess its best summed up as a fantasy that delves into psychological emotional stuff with some action thrown in.

demonic-myst

using the dnd comparison on how nice it is its like dnd before the bbeg shows up or after he defeated u still have bandfitsd undead necromancers monsters but their not organised no world endingh threat but u can still be merked if u walk into a cave

demonic-myst

Bronze is copper and tin copper goes green from oxydati9n which is what rust is so rusted bronze is a thing infact every surviving bronze tool weapon and arm9r is rusted

demonic-myst

“Isng spec of rust 8n sight” sadly wrong the green on bronze is rust all the green is bronze 8s not green naturaly it layers itself in green rust so that statue 8s still rusty none rusted bronze is a golden and copper like color

Roy Meulblok

One thing to pay attention to with this anime is the insane detail to clothes animation. I shit you not, its soooo good.

Limini

Everytime they put a jacket on or off 😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰

Limini

Bronze doesn rust. The green is bc it has oxidized.

Limini

The green oxidation is actually what prevents bronze from rusting. so it is not rust.

Rudy Velazquez

The reactions themselves aside, i always get a kick out of hearing the intro. Going from “watching avatar the last airbender with my girlfriend” to now wife? ✨adorbs✨

CH

I'm glad you guys did the English dub. The Japanese dub's voice for Frieren is still breathy and flat, but it's MUCH higher pitched, so your view on it is gonna be vastly different depending on which you started with If you started with the JP: "WTF why did they make Frieren sound like a grandma this is so weird" If you started with the EN: "eheheheheeee she sounds nice"

demonic-myst

Rust means oxidisation thats all it is rust is a biproduct if oxidisation

demonic-myst

Rust is iron oxide caused by oxidisation of iron when water or air reacts with irion the oxygen in the water or air fuses with iron causing iron oxide rusting can be coloquily used to define all kinds of oxidisation

Limini

Rust means oxidisation of only certain metals. It has specific properties

Limini

Exactly it is /iron/ oxide. Coloquily it is called tarnish or patina if it's this kind of oxidation. It is used differently than rust bc it indicates the type of metal as well as the type of corrosion. Rust eats and corroded while other oxidations form a protective layer. If something is "rusted" colloquially you would expect it to be damaged or hard moving in some kind of way. Certain metals are used bc they specifically do not rust but oxide in a different way

demonic-myst

thats completly wrong their two usses of rust either 1 you use it for any oxidation or 2 only iron its never cirtain metals its either one or all as i exsplained in last coment either used for all oxidisation including copper oxide or only uise it for iron oxide meaning the only metal that rusts would be iron everything else that contains iron is not a metal but an alloy if your going be pedantic on the meaning be consistent

demonic-myst

saying copper oxidation isnt rudsting is the same level of pedantic as saying chilis are not hot just toxic

TheMilkMan

She is a grandma though, she acts like one. A little bit insulting to the original voice actress, Atsumi Tanezaki is one of the best voice actors in anime currently, she voiced Anya from Spy X Family and Vivy from Vivy. Both English and Japanese are just as good as each other, no need to compare, Frieren Beyond Journey's End is enjoyable in both Japanese and English.

CH

Fr, I want to give benefit of the doubt wherever possible, but I've never got the "SHE SOUNDS LIKE A GRANNY" complaint

demonic-myst

Before was pendantic bow is just lying Bronze is copper and tin so if u dony class oxidisation 8n generL as rust then its cant rust eits either the green stuff is rust or it cant rust Make up your mind the green stuff is cooler oxide rust on iron is iron oxide its the same thing aceot replace iron with copper u cant make iron oxide in bronxe no iron is present

StorytellerDave

Nah, as Sein would put it: Three children.

KeanuofRivia

So I think the reason that she poured two bottles out instead of just one it's because himmel was not there to pour one out so she did one from him too

Blake N

I don't agree Frieren is a grandma. She's more of a child than anything. Even though she's so old, she's just learning about the human concepts of death, time, and love. This entire show is about her learning those things and fully processing her relationship with the party of heroes, obviously one in particular. The super old voice just doesn't work for her.

CH

@Blake N the "grandma" thing is hyperbole. I view her more as an odd, "quirky" (i.e. possibly undiagnosed neurodivergent) aunt. Children aren't the only ones that haven't figured this kinda stuff out yet, I'm in my 30s and still struggling to learn and understand it

StorytellerDave

4:10 - This starting scene is actually really interesting. Frieren tells Fern a few of her weaknesses, then realizes that Fern is distraught and offers praise where her strengths are. It really shows that despite her cold exterior, Frieren is an excellent teacher. She understands emotions better than she thinks she does.

James Collins

Glad someone finally doing good DUB reactions Early access that’s actually YouTube edited instead of watch alongs And uploads frequently love the reactions well worth subscribing 👌👌👌👌

Suplee215

Super late here but just started the show. I think Freiren insisting it's the same is less speaking about how Fern sees magic and more about how Freiren does. Before this moment Fern saw her as obsessed with magic and that magic is Freirens special calling or something. Almost like Fern is having imposter syndrome with her just being someone who stumbled on magic and Freiren being a proper magic user.

Sprig Plantar

"u cant make iron oxide in bronxe no iron is present" Lol exactly, that's why it's impossible for bronze to rust. Rust is iron oxide. Exclusively iron oxide, not all different kinds of oxidation.
