First one here

yob

can't wait for them to get to THE episode

jordan rosa

Pretty cool that this dropped on my birthday and it’s a birthday episode

HBelmont67

Keep that potion Frieren bought in your mind 👀👀👀

HBelmont67

Seriously, the fact that Himmel and Bakugo are the same guy is insane, both in English and Japanese. Himmel and Connie, on the other hand. I can hear it. 😄

HBelmont67

Qual was way too cool and interesting of a character to be dispatched in one episode, to be honest. I really hope he shows up in flashbacks.

yob

ep 10 because of frierens iconic one liner

HBelmont67

The reveal of Frieren knowing the old man was so funny. 🤣

Curtis Murphy

That cold comment from Himmel is supposed to be a joke. It's not his real thoughts. I think the dub made it seem more like a real criticism. In the sub it's played a bit fir lsughs

HBelmont67

Feels good, dun't it? 😁👍

Hawk

The little details always throw me - Frieren picked the butterfly because it was Fern's first spell for Heiter, whose praise made her "somewhat" fall in love with magic. Frieren is /scary/ levels of thoughtful when it occurs to her to even try.

HBelmont67

Montana had a ring for Kenny, too?! STOOOOOP! That's the sweetest thing ever! 😭😭

mal

Qual was so fire and that voice actor was amazing

HBelmont67

Omigosh, I didn't even think about that!

hoodie

Not me resisting the urge to accuse kenny of pre-watching HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT PREDICTING EVERYTHING💀

StorytellerDave

My favourite bit this episode is that Fern knew the killing magic, the spell that was the lifes work of one of the Elder Sages of Destruction, since her childhood and used that with 0 knowledge of what it was or where it came from.

Juan Solo

Happy Birthday! 🥳

Josh M

I love Frieren's "casual walk" when she suggests they go for a treat. It's animated way more stiffly than her normal gait, like she's trying to be casual and kind of failing. It's such a little detail.

HBelmont67

This anime is FULL of those. Studio Madhouse understood the assignment when adapting this series. 👏

HBelmont67

I feel like Ishigami in Love is War: "I WANNA FALL HOPELESSLY IN LOOOOVE!"

HBelmont67

Way to sing your own praises, choom 🤣

HBelmont67

Frieren being envious of Fern's . . . size compared to her own is so understated, but SO funny. 😂

HBelmont67

We all must agree to keep using Cyberpunk lingo and jargon on this channel, even after they finish the series. 😁

HBelmont67

The only other show K & M have watched from them is Death Note, I believe (haven't watched it myself).

HBelmont67

The de-development of Zoltraak is perfectly summarized by how Qual and Frieren speak the spell this episode. Qual proclaims it with vigor while Frieren with apathy.

Is this the one where this epic masterpiece "Zoltraak" OST plays??

StorytellerDave

And with context from later episodes, it is like showing a child playing with a modern tablet pressing buttons with no knowledge of how or why it works, to the inventor of the first computers, back when a computer took up entire rooms with giant boxes. Qual was clowned on so hard.

thevoidbender

I love all the little spells she gets to remind her of her friends. The make grapes more sour spell? Well its her dwarf friend's favorite food; sour grapes.

David L

There's a little moment that didn't get mentioned so figured I would bring it up here. Last episode there was a mention of Frieren learning a spell to make grapes sour, and this episode's flashback Eisen says sour grapes are his favorite food. It's another neat little nod that is hinting she might know more about her original companions that she realizes.

HBelmont67

We even see it in an episode or two when Frieren and Fern meet up with Eisen. 😅

CH

Kenny just built different. They normally say when one of them has seen something but the other hasn't

hoodie

Yea i know he probably didnt pre watch but still its really cool

L.C.

I think ur gonna love Frieren quite a lot as a series. I think its really gonna hit for you both quite a lot.

L.C.

And yeah everyone else already mentioned it but its important to take note of the little things that are said in the series because a whole lot isn't just laid out in your face just like the sour grapes thing that people are mentioning. The series is a masterpiece in the way that it has little things sprinkled throughout the series and they actually turn out to directly connect with other things as the series goes on. The sour grapes was important to Frieren for having as a spell because it is something she can do for Eisen since he likes sour grapes. At face value it isn't a worthwhile spell but this episode you find out that it is a super important spell to Frieren because its something she can do for her friend

KeanuofRivia

Same with something Qual said this episode tho I'm not sure if it will be easy to figure out later with the different word choice. In the subbed he says "Frieren... My spell...". This line has potential significance later

TheMilkMan

Funny how you said Frieren's use of Zoltraak was disrespectful, you're not ready for what's to come, Frieren fights with nothing but pure disrespect 😂

mastertater

They do that in a lot of anime

Ellie

"We have bluetooth you fucking freak" montana is so funny

demonic-myst

Thats common in frieren , magic os often invented by demons over centuries then humans copy it and learn how it works in a few decades

HBelmont67

This was like if Dabi had successfully used Prominence Burn against Endeavor 🔥

HBelmont67

So, is this you saying the subbed line is better or dubbed?

HBelmont67

SERIOUSLY hope we see him again in another flashback. He is TOO cool and interesting for the little screentime he has.

Riley

I can't express my joy at the fact you both are watching Frieren <3

Yoshy Moshy

I found that the scariest aspect of Qual (admittedly canceled out by Frieren one-shotting him but ignoring that) was that he saw Fern cast the defensive spell once, listened to Frieren talk about how it came about, and then just casually cast it himself while stating that it was a complex bit of magic. It seemed as though he instantaneously learnt a spell that humans took 80 years to master, and then figured out its weakness in the same thought

HBelmont67

Seriously. He's a smart villain, and I would have liked to have seen more of him.

HBelmont67

The potion that dissolves clothing

Hannah N

Qual is honestly one of my favorite villains he's such an interesting concept and having him be immediately and totally outclassed by Frieren just makes it better for me

Victor Velazco

Did we catch that he said “oh she can fly” meaning 80 years ago she couldn’t fly

Ryan Jones

What I feel is the interesting part about Qual is that Frieren only outclassed him because she was given 80 years to specifically counter him. If Qual got away or broke out before Frieren got there, I feel like he would have adapted to his weaknesses very quickly. Potentially a world-ending threat if it wasn't nipped in the bud
