For anyone who's watched Black Clover (Kenny 👀), Kikoru should remind y'all of someone . . .

HBelmont67

I'm sure plenty didn't like Kikoru immediately. I was never one of them; she's such a little ball of sass, and I love it. 😁 It helps that she can back it up.

Moody

So Mina kinda pisses me off for treating Kafka the way she does. Imagine 2 friends dream to play in the NFL together & 1 of them just physically doesn’t have what it takes to get there. Then the 1 that does make it feels betrayed because the other couldn’t make it, is mad because they gave up trying to make it when, again, they just physically couldn’t do it & quits talking or interacting with them in any way.

HBelmont67

Kenny thinking "That's great" when seeing Kafka's 219/225 ranking. 🤣🤣

Jinchuriki87

One thing to keep in mind about the weapons is that they are also affected by the combat power the user brings out (hence kikoru hits like a truck while others hit like regular ordinance) so the rifles aren't exactly "standard" either

HBelmont67

I don't think No-Eyebrows was Aleks Le, Kenny. But you have heard him before. It's Upper One Kokushibo from Demon Slayer.

HBelmont67

You guys are gonna love Vice Captain Hoshina. He's basically Levi with Hange's personality. Or, you know, A personality. YEAH, I SAID IT.

HBelmont67

Not the same thing. Mina's out here risking her life fighting horrifying monsters without her friend who promised they would do it together. It's understandable for her to be upset about that.

Moody

Right but it’s not like Kafka made then promise then never even attempted, he literally couldn’t do it. So initially being upset he couldn’t keep the promise is understandable but completely ignoring him for presumably a decade while he’s at his rock bottom seems worse than his shortcomings.

Letts React

Damn totally wiffed on that guess then haha

D.M.C.

the voice actor is Jonah Scott he's great

StorytellerDave

I have only seen up to this episode, my prediction is that Kafka cannot use any power from the suit, because the Kaiju strength he has inside of himself is greater than what the suit could offer. Basically it's like when items in video games do not stack. The kaiju power from the suits might interfere or just not be as compatible with people with a lot of strength already. This could also explain why Kikoru can use so much more than the others, since no offense, but she seems like a pint sized girl who skips gym, she's not exactly a muscle mommy like Vi or Ambessa in Arcane, she also does not appear as physically buff as some of the muscle heads among the trainees. Perhaps she gets a higher boost from the suit, because she has less strength without it.

Slujan2

But remember, if he is not in kaiju form, he does NOT have kaiju strength. The suits compatibility is strictly an aptitude thing. It is something you need to get used to and be in peak physical shape to use. Reno is 8%, has never used a suit before and they say its incredible Everyone else who has over 10%, without spoiling their backgrounds, have already had YEARS to train with or how to use them. Kikoru especially to the point where she had her OWN private suit. You say she does not appear as physically buff, but remember, she was 5th in the overall physical test

StorytellerDave

I'd assume the Kaiju is still inside of him whether or not he's in Kaiju form. It's not like the thing disappears and teleports back whenever he wants to transform. It's IN him. His organs are probably all shifted and messed up, it's a wonder he was not discovered yet at any medical checkup. The suit works off of and is giving feedback on his internals. So I'd guess it works based on his body to some extent. Whether or not he is currently in Kaiju form the suit/kaiju material on him might not be very cooperative with what is already inside of him.

Slujan2

"If you are ever scared, I will be right there next to you". No spoilers, but it kind of makes you think just WHAT she went through without him that makes her upset he wasnt there with her to make sure she was alright. Also from the first few episodes, we see from Kafkas point of view that he also hasnt reached out to her since AT LEAST his first failure of the exam.

HBelmont67

Exactly. We don't have enough context at this point to be pointing fingers. We don't know what went down between them.

Day

What if what if...... *somewhat spoiler* The suit reads the heart and like, since kafka doesn't have a human heart anymore and has a kaiju core, the suit can't read it? Ah but wait that wouldn't explain how his suit rose to 1% 🥲 but still, could be like heart centered and interferance due to having a core? Or maybe because the suit is made from kaiju, and kafka is part kaiju... the suit kinda reads kafka's kaiju parts as part of the suit so its reading less of him than is actually there?

Braden Jackson

A few reasons why j think he is keeping it a secret is 1 he destroyed millions of dollars in damages 2 it might be a Yuji thing and they will kill him out of fear especially when most have a kill all kiju mentality and 3 we found out that their weapons are from kiju corpse so what if they try to dissect him either for his powers or to figure out how he became one

Day

My thing with mina is tho... like why didn't she help him study or train for the exam like sure we know he was probably embarrassed to reach out to her but she definitely could've tried to reach out and offer some guidance with her position no? Or did I forget something

Day

How they both keep up their attitudes throughout the show... is beyond me lol

HBelmont67

Exactly my point. We don't know ANYTHING about the situation yet, so there's no reason to draw conclusions.

David Garcia

To be fair I saw a LOT of people think Kafka did great on their first time seeing the score lol

Ferret

I think she would be less angry if he hadn't stopped trying. At this point we don't really know much about how the power system works (I do because I'm caught up on the manga, but from this perspective), but the fact that 8% is considered really good for a first time using the suits implies that one can improve their score through training and extended use. If Kafka quit trying, and never actually talked to Mina about it, then from her perspective he just broke their promise.

Ferret

Re Day's point, I feel comfortable sharing this because it's not actually plot or delved into worldbuilding, but the Kaiju Defense Force is an active duty on-call military unit. Officers need to be available 24/7 in case of Kaiju attack, it's doubtful they have any ability to socialize outside of the base.

StorytellerDave

Maybe when he is starting to use his kaiju powers his heart does something that the suit can register?

Luke

Vinland next⁉️

Juan Solo

That security guard put his weight in that punch. Both guards jumping Kafka were really trying to justify their paychecks. 😆

Rhythem

Haha Kikoru is such a little shit. I love her.

OceanPhantom

She reminds me of that girl from power puff girls that bought a suit to be like the powerpuffs

HBelmont67

Same. 😁 Pretty sure she has the same Japanese VA as Power.

Thabelo Mojaki

Kaiju have killed countless people, you would be a fool to believe one that says “don’t worry I won’t hurt you”. No matter how good of a person you are, you would need to see a lot proven before you even begin to trust. A lot of these people are probably motivated by what kaiju have done to wreck their lives, and so would refuse any information that might ask them to show kaiju, even if just one, some compassion. Where does your anger then go?

KaladinStormLight

Just to be clear the intro of K8 (the animation of it. Not the sound or your reaction) is playing at 0.75 times speed compared to the youtube version “Kaiju No. 8” Opening Theme Animation｜'ABYSS' by YUNGBLUD" unless I'm just crazy

awildjord

i did the same thing tbh 💀 took me a sec to realise it was a ranking and not a score

HBelmont67

Difference is Kikoru actually is that good

OceanPhantom

Facts just reminded me of her this particular scene

Calvin

As I understand the recruitment process they only accept like the upper 25% and Kafka during the time when he was of the applicable age tested every single year and was consistently in the middle of the pack.
