HBelmont67

Please let Castlevania be an option to replace Frieren. 🙏

HBelmont67

The end of this episode is such a perfect, "OH CRAP" moment. 😳😳

Lyrical Kell of Music

Almost wish we could get a double drop this week and the next, then a break to line back up with the schedule. These episodes flow so good together !

HBelmont67

Denken at the end is basically saying if he weren't striving to get something so important in this test (First Class Mage certification), he'd be OUT of there once he saw Frieren's copy. Like, if this were just another adventure, he wouldn't chance it.

StorytellerDave

One thing that I heard recently is that you should view this exam more like a drivers license exam than a school exam. There are no teachers here, they're just examiners and they have absolutely no investment or obligation to let people pass if they don't deem them to be good enough. So Sense failing everyone is not akin to a bad teacher, it's more akin to getting a very strict examiner when taking your drivers license exam, someone who's more concerned with public safety than with you getting your license.

HBelmont67

Frieren falling for mimics will never, ever, EVER get old. 🤣🤣 I wonder how easy those are to detect in DnD. 😅

Babybear47

Sense's hair reminds me of entrapta's hair!

HBelmont67

I WAS HOPING SOMEONE ELSE WOULD GET IT.

QuanArt

Denken is talking about if this wasnt a 1st class mage test and he knew about the clones, specifically frieren's copy he would've been left

StorytellerDave

I think when Sense says she hates violence she means that the examinees are not going to fight one another. She does not want test takers dueling, she wants them to work together.

Suplee215

Sensa seems to abhor interpersonal conflict more than violence in general. Attacking a monster or a trap is different than making mages fight to the death or over a spot.

KallaTheWatcher

Bro would've ran like hell if there wasn't anything to gain from exploring this dungeon. He's taking a test to receive the title of first class mage so that he can visit his wife's grave. He can't run away even if he wanted to. That's basically what he said.

KaladinStormLight

Denken means that if it was not a trial needed to become a first class mage and be allowed to see his wife's grave in the north he would have shattered his bottle already cause he knows how powerful Frieren is.

Praise the Omnissiah

If it weren't a trial he'd have no reason to stay so he'd leave, but because it's a trial he has a reason to go on to obtain the first class rank

Gdawg88

You need to be a first class mage to go into the northern lands, and we learned that he wants to go there, so he needs to become a first class mage. So if it was the real world he would have left the dungeon, but since it’s “a trial” and completing it is the only way to achieve his goal, he therefore can’t break the glass/retreat.

KaladinStormLight

Denken could also be under the misconception that because this is a trial by Serie the first class mage and seeing the golems in the bottle she had these replicas "made" to challenge the participants and because she said she's a pacifist the replicas wont kill them.

20 16

Bro I have no clue why this was so confusing for them .

Darthwin Wright

If I remember correctly she pointed out that the last test was the type that would encourage fighting among the participants and get potential mages killed.

20 16

Y'all come on now after all the shows you have watched this is what confuses you . He's clearly just saying if he didn't need to pass this trial ( which he needs to do to accomplish his dream ) he would have fled immediately.

Gdawg88

Yall question 3 discussion makes me so excited for future reactions😩

StorytellerDave

37:00 - Aang was raised as a pacifist, all air nomads were, but they still fight. Pacifists can defend themselves and others, they just don't attack others if they can avoid it.

HBelmont67

You're surprised that they overthought?

Jesus

@29:50 he means that if he did not have the incentive of becoming a first class mage he would have left a long time ago. That reward is worth going up against Frieren.

Tyler Stone

kenny and montana are the epitome of overthinking, makes their reactions interesting

Limini

Technically it is a very peaceful test bc if you just work together (and if frieren weren't there) you could just be sneaky and just walk into the deepest chamber without ever having to fight anyone or anything. There is no requirement to fight while encouriging teamwork. Compared to a lot of other exams/tournaments it is relatively peaceful and the bottle allows anyone to quit unharmed

Limini

Aang also fought a lot while being a pacifist. I think its more about not seeking bloodshed

Limini

In the first Exam a lot of people died but also a lot of people passed the exam. They were also encouraged to fight one another. Compared to that, Senses exams where no one passes but also no one dies makes kinda sense lol

Suplee215

My take on Fern is different. I think she's ok with being a mage being her job and not her career. She gets her fulfillment in life from traveling with Fairen. Not from the title of mage. I don't think she's pushed into being a mage so much as being a mage is just her job, not her calling. Sometimes yout calling is your career but it doesn't have to be and I think that's a very healthy attitude to have.

Limini

I think if you're in a situation where you passed the first exam and are aiming to become a first class mage, you should be able to get out of it alive and peacefully. Like there is a level of endangerment. If Sense just threw any other mage into that then that would be not pacifist and dangerous. But these are skilled mages who already passed one exam. It's like different routes when you go skiing. There's beginner routes and more difficult ones. If you're proficient enough, the level of danger goes down. For a beginner it might be dangerous to go the black route but for a professional the danger is a lot less. If that makes sense, I think in Senses eyes she's not actually putting anyone in danger or that any danger is selfinflicted. Like if they choose to fight Frieren over breaking the bottle, that is selfimposed danger, since Sense gave them a way out in advance and at that level you should be able to make an informed decision to what level of danger you can take

Darthwin Wright

Plus there are a lot of shows that encourage deep thinking so it can be easy to hear a phrase and accidently make think to deeply when the easier answer is available. It is how they have been able to make great predictions regarding many twists in past shows.

Suplee215

I think there's a difference between being a pacificist and trying to conserve life. The 2 often go hand in hand but not always. Can a pacifist go rock climbing? It's extremely dangerous and might end up with people dying ifnyou climb mount everest. You migjt need to fight animals. But there's a fundamental difference between that and fighting another sentient creature for personal gain. Remember the last challenge encouraged a battle royal type appoarch by soem contestants and while we dont know if anyone killed each other we know that some mages had no issue killing and no one said that was out of line for the first class test. People are expected to die a lot in this. Its a dangerous endeavor.

Darthwin Wright

I would recommend Lycoris Recoil and psycho pass for future reactions.

Yuma Nanami

Guys... you two are adorable, but they are literally in an Exam... if he fails this trail of the exam, he doesn't pass the exam

Kalf97

I love how Montana just has beef with sense XD

Curtis Murphy

She doesn't want "in-fighting" or unnecessary fighting

HBelmont67

At a point, you pass overthinking and go into missing the point entirely.

Atlas Creation

Hmm about the pacifist thing, here is my take: the first class mage exam(which is extremely difficult) has mentioned beforehand that injury and death are to be expected. Sense gives the test takers(who has already accepted that death is a real possibility) a way to escape the dungeon and also allows no restriction for the amount of people who can pass. This way, there in no fighting between the test-takers and she was giving them a way out even if she wasn’t required to. Sense seems to avoid senseless/unneeded fighting and death, but that doesn’t mean death and fighting isn’t a possibility within the test.

Guadalupe Leon

My recommendation for a show after Frieren is Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt it's has an amazing Dub

Yuion

Sense doesnt like fighting between humans but fighting monsters is a different thing. Thats her form of pacifism. And Denken was just saying that if this wasnt a test he would have gotten the f outta there but he needs to pass the test so he stays

Ahmad Pattonbey

exactly he means if this wasn't a trial this wouldn't be worth the risk

Devon P

"Sometimes you gotta PASSafist into a door." That actually was pretty funny. Well done Kenny.

kristianc00

I think the biggest thing is she doesn't want people to die, if she could help it everyone would survive her exams which is why she allows them to escape with the golem and work in groups but to be a first class mage you have to be able to 1 be so good you don't need to use the golem or at least good enough to know when to break the bottle. Also she is a huge pacifist compared to the other proctor who didn't care if they died

Æther Paradox

Please do a double drop for the next episodes. You won't regret it.

HBelmont67

[Frieren's] hair is pretty iconic." Yes, it is. Maybe Montana should try it. Like for the finale or something . . . 👀

HBelmont 24

Kenny's starting horseback riding, yee-haw! 🤠 🐎

IC3P3

For what Denken meant, I watched the German dub and there he say something like "I'll just say one thing about that. If this wasn't an official test, I would have broken my bottle by now". I think it's a bit more clear there what he meant. For my understanding it's something like there is no way he tries to fight Frieren (or her clone) without a good reason. But the test gives reason (with his goal of going to the grave) to at least try it and hoping to succeed.

Alseriph

I think was Denken means is that if he were just exploring this dungeon for fun he would have already given up. He’s only continuing in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds because he’s being tested.

Teib _21

This^. the trail forces him to fight, instead he would run.

Caleb Holman

He basically means since he has the bottle he can keep going but if he didn't have the safty net of the bottle he would have immediately ran.

L.C.

How is that final line that confusing to you both? Lol

Shyrlon

Peak is close

Kyle MacDonald

If it wasn't an exam Denken would have nothing to lose by just leaving.

thevoidbender

Riften is what you’re thinking of not Falkreath. Falkreath is the one with the giant graveyard and is by the Dark Brotherhood hideout.

Oscar Hernandez

I fell denied was saying if this wasn't a trial he would of ran on sight of frieren but since it is a trial he has to try to defeat her to move forward

Catalin

Quick fun fact: Denken mentioned the “created by magic” because some creatures can transform natural, almost like chameleons. Examples are kitsune foxes or Changelings. While others such as bard or wizards transform with magic.

Mr. America

A fun anime that I out in league with AOT is Sword Art Online! Would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to see you guys enjoy that show!!!

Michael

I took Denken’s final statement to mean that, if he weren’t taking a trial and trying purposely to push past his normal limits, he would have just quit outright.

Cyan_Sky9135

Okay to put this in Montana terms, what Denken said is equal to, Imagine if you're running a marathon and your favorite horse is on the line, you lose and you never get to ride it again, you win and you do. If you were running the marathon for fun, and nothing was on the line, you'd have no problem giving up. Losing equals giving up, thus you never get to ride your horse again. They're(Denken) willing to finish the marathon to ride your horse again. sorry if this sounds insulting, I dont mean it to be. lol

Limini

Absolutely not. You can say you enjoy SAO and that it was popular during its runtime but it's nowhere near AOT in every aspect be it animation and/or writing. Not to mention it is a very different genre with a very different tone and gratuitous fanservice of its worst kind.

Matthew Jobin

I think they tend to over complicate things sometimes and look far too deeply into things meant to be taken at face value. It’s just part of how they consume their media, but it can be a bit frustrating to watch sometimes lol.

HBelmont67

To expand on Kenny's point on subtle animations in this show, I really like the way Virbel lightly smacks Scharf's shoulder at 7:37 to tell him to get up. I dunno why, but that's a small detail I've always really liked.

Cyan_Sky9135

You worded that much more accurately than me! lol

VolcanoVR

5:19 How am I the first one to look this up??? THERE AINT NO WAYYYY “Yes, Kanehito Yamada (THE CREATOR OF THIS SHOW AND MANGA) is credited with creating the manga story and storyline for the series Hunter x Hunter. He works closely with artist Yoshihiro Togashi on the project” i guess contrary to what other people thought. The creator of Frieren is a male, and every time you see a picture of the creator on google/online it’s just some random woman lol

Millie L

I love that they give the Frieren clone final boss music.

Amadhe

Respectfully, I disagree with you there somewhat. While I do agree SAO’s Story has several plot points that are lacking or contrived, it has a fairly interesting story progression. I especially feel that the animation, especially in the Alicization Arc can absolutely compare to AoT, and there are definitely fights that I believe are animated better than ones in AoT due to the situations they occur in.

Limini

where did you get this information from?

Limini

i tried to look it up but i can't find kanehito yamada credited anywhere on hunter x hunter

Bryan

Denkin is saying "If I didn't need to pass this exam [to visit a grave], I would have quit this high stakes game [just as I want to now, but can't] ... I'm absolutely terrified at this moment."
