Limini

we're nearing the eennnddd

Limini

i love everytime we get to use the word penultimate

Lyrical Kell of Music

Crazy we are already almost done with frieren, i actually never watched it before you guys had in on the schedule, i finished it in like 3 days and I believe season 2 has been confirmed to be coming out soon !

HBelmont67

Make sure you watch the end credits all the way through for the finale!

Babybear47

Just before Fern tells why she looks mad Montana saying at the end of the day it's just a stick lol ironically funny

StorytellerDave

The penultimate Frieren Friday! I love how tsundere Serie is, she tries so hard not to get attached, but does it anyways.

AJ Hutchinson

So excited for mob psycho!!! Gonna be a different vibe for sure but y'all are gonna love it so much!!!!!

Letts React

Haha it’s a little tradition at this point

Babybear47

Sense voice actor is Nejira, Gabi, and Pochita!

Nataku

I understand the hate for Serie, but she is ancient. Not to use an invincible quote, but to her humans are like pets. She will outlive each and every one, and wont show how much it hurts her, but continues to take on students. Also saying Lernen could see Frieren was suppressing her mana puts him well above Aura on detection, to the level of the Demon King. And Lernen saying Frieren's mana was comparable to Serie's when he couldn't tell she was suppressing hers means her suppressed mana = Frieren's unleashed.

Limini

you gotta see past series facadeeeee--- I'm writing essays defending serie in my head

Limini

The flower spell is really such a great piece of storytelling. A simple piece of kindness. Flammes parents who taught it to Flamme who came to love magic bc of it and made her found humanities magic. Frieren who learned the spell after 50 years of learning magic just for fighting and using it to plant flowers at flammes grave, reigniting her love for magic when it was just for war before. Himmel who also only knew magic as a weapon of war and demons being comforted by it and bringing the hero team together. And it is all just a piece of kindness that got passed along for centuries. I love it so much

Limini

Serie mentioned it when Flamme introduced them. Frieren lacks ambition to become the mage Serie wants.

Yuma Nanami

Fern is actually only 18 at this time

StorytellerDave

Love that Himmel said it was beautiful, but if you look he is not looking at the flowers at all in that flashback.

Limini

While her clone wouldnt be there, Senses clone would and people like Kanne and Scharf and Blei i fear arent really 1st class mages. If not for frieren Kanne wouldnt have even passed the first exam

Limini

Look at her actions not just her word plsssss. I'm waiting for the last episode before I write my essay

Limini

Ahhh she's such an interesting character, the next episode hopefully clears a lot up. But i love how you look at her from different angles. She is such a myth in the beginning and the more we get to know her the more i love her

Limini

janury 2026

Limini

well maybe but not in the way omniman uses the word pet. but actually someone who loves their pets

Limini

I really thought Serie doesn't care at the beginning bc she's so old but when i saw how fondly she thinks of flamme and how gently she remembers her as a child taking her hand, i defo teared up and couldnt help but love serie for it. Her saying that the age of humanity is coming bc of flamme and Frieren saying the age of humanity has come bc of fern gets me everytime. they are so proud of their children

Limini

i'm super curious what the exam would have been if lernen proctored it and how many would have died

StorytellerDave

Not necessarily. Kanne and Lawine only got into a fight with Denken in the 1st test bc of the plan Frieren made that as said in the episode, picked a fight with the other groups. They would have a different 3rd member too. As for Sense in test 2, while she is really strong, her strength is partially in being able to ambush people. I feel like Denken's clone would be the guardian, not Sense. Regardless tho, Sense vs a group would not stand up nearly as well as Frieren can. Methode and Denken together can probably beat her even without Ubel.

Limini

The moment where sense puts on series cape for her is so cool. I loved it in the intro as well as this episode.

Limini

Series dynamic to the first class mages is so funny. It does seem like a parent nagging a bunch of children "you need to work together!" "being quiet now that youre getting scolded hm?" "not your fault babes, it's all frieren"

Limini

And it says so much about their dynamic too. Someone putting on their jacket for you without anyone saying a word means you're just that close/domestic/familiar (?) with one another. Like obvi no one has to put her cape on for her, she can just magic it. And that it is Sense that does it is so cute.

Limini

When I think of first class mages, i think of well rounded and versatile mages that can overcome any if not most difficulties on their own. Kanne is very insecure (needing to be pushed to hae the courage to try to fly, etc) and inexperienced (outside of water magic, she only seems to know basic magic). Her Mana detection (a fundemental) sucks (the bird would have gotten her if not for frieren) and she easily panics. Lawine is much more on her feet when it comes to creative thinking, i think. Compared to Übel, Wirbel, denken fern and methode who all seem to be more rounded and flexible as mages, kanne really seems to be lacking. She is still very young and maybe with luck and a capable third member they could have gotten a stille but Lawine and Kanne alone failed to contain a stille.

VolcanoVR

AND RICHTER LIKE THE RICHTER SCALE FOR EARTHQUAKES! He does earth magic!

Limini

lol yeah that checks out, thought he was called richter cause he is so judgemental. his outfit makes him seem like a judge too but richterscale fits much better

Darthwin Wright

I imagine Serie has been telling herself to stop taking human apprentices for years but keeps doing it when one catches her interest. I would not be surprised if Lernen has probably heard his mentor complain about taking human apprentices a few times.

StorytellerDave

I dont disagree, Kanne and Lawine are not 1st class mage material and were both unlikely to pass the third test regardless of what it would have ended up being, I just meant that Frieren did not necessarily make the two of them pass the first two. Definitely not the 2nd test, the 1st one is debatable, we just have no way to know how it would have went down without Frieren. Obviously things would have gone down differently, maybe she still goes off by herself and maybe she does get mercd by a bird monster, or maybe things go completely differently. Maybe they just go fight another party and steal one from them. Depending on the third member they have a decent shot against at least Edels party or maybe they get it from the party that Denken and Richter fist fought, since obv they would not have had to do that without Frieren.

Limini

Serie is me whenever i try to quit sugar

Drake

While I think Serie is undoubtedly ego-centric I do agree that I don't think that's the entire point of her character. I think she's basically blinded by ego and practicality basically. She See's Flamme's flower spell as a frivolous use of magic, and Freiren's mana suppression as impractical when the story is telling us that clearly everything has greater value than what's immediately apparent. Series is disappointed in her students (imo) not because they are human, but because she See's them as so much more capable than they see themselves or act as. She makes the point that her top student hasn't changed after all these years, and it seems like she basically mourns their wasted potential. I also think the point of her character is to contrast with Frieren. They are both elves who seem cold and emotionally detached at times. But Frieren has learned the value of relationships and the smaller things whereas Serie hasn't. Which I think is also intended to show how similar Elves are to demons as well since they took don't seem to understand emotions to an even greater degree. So really the point of the show is to show the inherent value in 'humanity', not as a race or species but as a concept.

HBelmont67

HOW did I never get that?! 🤯🤯

Limini

I partially agree. I would just like to mention while she said mana supression is impractical given how time consuming it is, she also aknowledges how it helped Frieren to kill so many demons and more importantly she also surpresses her mana herself. I think she just said that it was bothersome to keep up the facade, the "fooling" that comes with mana surpression. And while Elves are longlived, they are very different from demons and are very much capable of feelings and relationships. Kraft is emotionally very intelligent for example and we see how Frieren used to live in a village. So elves just like humans are social creatures with familys and strong bonds/relationships. Human and Elves are very similar in that regard i think. Humans also have a lot of people who have trouble forming relationships. I don't think it i an exclusively Elven trait.

Patrick Jordan

If you loved fieren and maybe not even as a reaction I'd recommend Delicious in Dungeon it has similar energy and is fantastic!

thevoidbender

Yes its the same VA as Nejire. Fun Fact Serie's va is Hawk's mom from MHA (and Mrs Hughs from FMA Brotherhood).

Nate Alexander

Serie and Frieren as elves are simple in their nature. Frieren is aloof whereas Serie is more direct but in a colder way than Kraft. She simply has an expectation and tends to take students but grows bitter when they don't meet the expectations that she sets for them, however just like the walk she took with Freiren; it does not mean she doesn't care. She cares about what it means to be a mage and so Flamme irritated her by making magic for everyone, just as Frieren has become fixated on what a relationship with people means. Serie is fixated on what being a strong mage means, and is stubborn in her ways.

HBelmont67

The wait for season two won't be too long for you guys, as it's coming in January of 2026! I wonder if they'll wrap up Mob Psycho 100 by that point. What is it, over thirty episodes? 🤔

HBelmont67

"And they were roommates " 🤣🤣🤣 I mean, Kanne said Lawine and her went to the same magic academy, so it COULD be true . . .

HBelmont67

Serie is DEFINITELY stronger than Frieren. Her suppressed mana looks as big as Frieren's unsuppressed . . .

HBelmont67

Well, I don't understand it. They're getting heated over . . . what, exactly?

Fox Trot

Frieren is close to the power ceiling… but Serie is in a league of her own

Drake

I do agree that Kraft does punch a hole in my point about Elves, but I still don't think it's a coincidence that two of the three Elves we see are often shown as dismissive and cold at times. I also feel that their lack of "reproductive instincts" is a part of their nature to be distant towards others as a whole. I feel like Serie shows us what Frieren could have been like without Himmel and the others, while Kraft is the opposite extreme and/or oath Frieren is on by learning more about humans and people in-general. Also I do you mean to imply Elves are like Demons in any meaningful sense, just that it feels like there is an emotional scale with Demons on one far end and humans on the other, with Elves existing in-between. But that is just my theory/opinion on the whole thing. I feel like stories like this are intentionally open to varying interpretations ultimately.

HBelmont67

They always do this: take certain character's hurtful words at face value, even when other scenes and actions contradict them. People don't always mean what they say.

ArcaneAnomaly

Serie becomes a lot more likable if you stop paying attention to what she says, and pay attention to what she does. While she acknowledges that the technique might have been useful, she criticizes Frieren and Flamme for spending so much time on learning how to suppress mana, essentially saying that doing so is just a waste of time. And then we learn that Serie herself is even better at it than Frieren is, meaning that Serie has spent even more time on the technique that is "just a waste of time". Serie says she's disgusted with Flamme for asking her to teach magic to humans in general, but here she is, doing exactly that. Serie says she despises taking on human apprentices, that they're always disappointments, and that she's going to stop doing so... and here she is, ready to pick a new one up at the drop of a hat when she sees something interesting. You'll see one more notable example of this next episode, as well.

HBelmont67

Actions speak louder than words, if you're open to listening.

HBelmont67

I'm not really sure what that would have looked like. Serie called him out for being timid, so I can't imagine what he'd be comfortable putting the test takers through.

Joe Dunams

Serie has a salty exterior but i get the impression she's softer then she lets on. She just hides it by being a jerk. For instance, remember Flamme's will? How she got mad, tore it up, and all together dismissed the request? And what is she doing now... EXACTLY what Flamme asked her to do in the will. So she did honor Flammes request and took over the imperial mage association.

HBelmont67

I agree with this, but it's "Serie" sry 😅

Limini

Right? it's such a mystery. She calls him timid but also says a "normal" test proctored by him would kill most of them. While he is timid he's also clearly skilled and wants series approval. There's also the fact that he's biased towards two particular test takers which could also affect how he would have proctored the test

Limini

they're still giving serie the benefit of doubt! next episode is hopefully going to win them over. although serie could stand to be a bit more honest. poor lernen was defo hurt by her words

David L

It's a fun way of presenting a character as a complex individual rather than just an idea with a face. People are often hypocritical, and say things we don't mean or mean things we don't say. People are often most critical of flaws in others which they see in themselves.

Limini

the reproductive instincts thing is just sexual tho and I think that's just common among long-lived species bc otherwise they would just overpopulate the earth. If you're living in a community you kind of have to build relationships and I feel like frieren was really devastated by the death of her village. my theory is that elves are just like humans when it comes to relationships especially bc your peers dying before you is not an issue among elves. so like elves like Kraft are more common than elves like serie and frieren. I think that serie and frieren are the way they are bc of magic and war. Frieren saw her whole village killed by a demon. that shi traumatizes you and the survivors guilt must be heavy. and then suddenly you're on the verge of Extinction and have to cope with the fact there are barely any people left that could grow old with you. so it's easier not to care and get attached. similarly serie is also marked by war and her pursuit of magic seems more geared towards combat and tools as well. she's almost obsessive when it comes to magic. they both isolated themselves and have such high guards that they kind of stunted themselves emotionally. I think without the war, serie and frieren would be much more sociable. serie less than frieren since her magic obsession would still make her somewhat of a snob and nerd and maybe hard to deal with but with more elves around she would have found more friends.

Limini

Mana is not everything! Frieren said herself that she lost to people with less Mana before and series could as well.

Limini

i wouldn't say bitter. I think serie just mourns their short lifespans less than she mourns their lost potential. I don't she was ever resentful towards her students

Lettuce Pray

its unfortunate nobody wanted to ask about or even discuss about Lernen and what Seriesaid about him, bro is powerful

David L

I think on key line is when Serie comments that Frieren is "still relatively unskilled for someone of her age" which is reinforced by Frieren acknowledging that she hasn't lived up to Serie's expectations. It kind of speaks to why Serie comes off as so hostile towards Frieren;in her eyes Frieren should be capable of so much more. Unlike humans, whose short lives inevitably limits their ceiling, Frieren is not bound by that limitation and should therefore be capable of reaching unfathomable heights; yet she has "wasted" a lot of time on mastering mana suppression just to trick demons. I think Serie is really implying that, if she wanted to kill demons that badly, Frieren would have been better off getting so powerful that tricking demons would be be unnecessary.

Rob Carlstrom

When it comes to serie vs frieren, I think its a fundamental difference of philosophy of magic. Serie's entire life revolves around magic and the potential it brings, it's her craft and study, it's her life. Frieren... only somewhat like magic. And I think people often gloss over that fact because she's always hunting for new spells and is evidently a wealth of knowledge when it comes to magic, but for her it's not ABOUT the magic, it's about finding it, about going through life and experiencing the world and magic doesnt CONSUME her, it COMPLIMENTS her.

Teib _21

Love the seris, I read the manga before this became an anime and I was so happy the anime was really good too. Even better that you guys reacted to and love this show too. So I don't know if this is a SPOILER, but I think they already revealed this or at least I figured this out as well. So Serie (Zērie), every mean thing she says is kind of the opposite of what she means, like when she says thinks Flamme's goal was ridiculous she is actually impressed, like when she says the flower spell is bad she does like it, it's why she has a garden, she is sentimental about the apprentices she takes but disappointed by their short lives and think if they lived longer they would be stronger and also stay with her as well. She is sort of a Tsundere without the normal/basic talking, it's reveal more as the show goes on but it shows in the scene with Flamme. Anything she says that appears mean she doesn't actually mean it. TLDR: she doesn't really mean it when she says something she is being sarcastic and slightly disappointed that human lives are short.

mffame

Mob will be good can’t wait it’s my favourite show I got a tattoo of reigan and mob

MaSeshield9277

It's worth noting that all the mages might not have united to work together if it wasn't for the insurmountable enemy that was frierens clone

HBelmont67

If they do one episode a week, then that should line up nicely for Frieren season two. 👍

Suplee215

Serie is the toxic min-max power gamer who would insult you for using any spell that isn't fireball and then complain to the dm when protection from energy is actually useful for a session and they didnt take it befuase they read the online community thread that its useless.

Suplee215

I argue she isnt doing what Flanme's wanted. I could be wrong but Flamme's goal was a world where everyone has access tk magic. Serie appears to be trying to keep control of magic and prevent the age of humans from outgrowing her. Shes doing this not to help Flamme's dreams but to prevent it in some way. There's a more positive spin you can put on it too.

Suplee215

I think frieren trusted that Serie will pass Fern even if she's too petty to pass Frieren herself.

HBelmont67

I feel like Sense's would've filled that void.

MaSeshield9277

I don't agree but I suppose it's possible. *Shrug*

Kalf97

I agree, it's also ironic that Serie does both though lol

Kalf97

lol i love Montana calling Serie a mysterious freak XD it fits

Devon P

This was the episode I was waiting for. I was really looking forward to seeing how they'd react to Serie's brutal judgement tactics and elitist attitude. And Kenny reacted exactly the same way I did. 🤣

Ebronics

Serie is a huge contradiction. she says she won't take on humans and then tries to recruit Fern, she refuses to fullfill Flama's wishes of starting a magical society for humans and where do we find her? leading a magical society that test and rates humans. Serie's actions run parallel to her words

StorytellerDave

I think it is a protective measure. She cannot ever be honest, because being honest would mean she has to admit that she grew attached to her students, which in turn means that she would grieve all the more when they are gone in what feels like no time at all to her. This ep even showed that she still viewed almost a century old Lernen as still the timid boy he used to be. Frieren experienced something similar with Fern, she still views her as a child sometimes, but Serie experienced this many times over whereas to Frieren this is still something new. She never had a student before.

Limini

Lernen is not that old 😭 he's 80 years old max probably younger. was from 50 years ago and he looked in his twenties

StorytellerDave

Denken already had a group even before they met any clone. Wirbel too, they went 3 together and beat their own clones.

Arrowgorn

I think the biggest thing with Serie is that her words are much harsher then how she actually feels. Like when she says she should stop taking on human students it's not because they don't recognize how powerful she is, it's because she sees their potential but their lives are so short they can't hit the heights she thinks they otherwise would.

Bea

Serie is not a mean brat. You just need to pay attention to what she is actually saying. She is saying that she shouldn't take human apprentices, because it's frustrating how little they get to live. She is never saying she is disappointed at Lernen. Much like Frieren, Serie cannot express her feelings correctly. She is a proud master. But she has watched ALL her apprentices die, one after the other, if not in battle, due to limited lifespans.

Ramon Fax!

You can't take what Serie says at face value.

gamerx

Serie was complimenting him. She was saying he's reached the height of magehood he's the strongest you could be and he's only got a few more years left to live because he's old.

gamerx

It's also incredibly clear she's much stronger than frerin frerins Max mana is the same as her suppressed mana.

gamerx

And both of them have talked about how freirin is very unskilled for her age. Serie is the most skilled.

gamerx

Why are you comparing it to high school? This is someone showing more promise than anyone she's ever met. The rest of them that passed it didn't meet that standard she just offered it to fern because she excelled more. She's not gatekeeping with high standards some entry level mage exam this is the top of the top

gamerx

She's never been proven wrong. She has achieved more than any human ever has or ever will. She doesn't have an ego she isn't cocky she states facts. I train you all to be so strong and you die so quickly you don't get to do anything with that strength. It's disappointing. Fern shows promise of having even more strength maybe with enough of it you will be able to do something with that limited time you have.

Limini

She is rude about it tho and very much hurting her students

Bryan

I never even considered that Frieren could fail the 1st class mage exam. This show truly "exceeds [my] expectations"

Walter Lajara

Serie isn’t that unreasonable. The people she rejected are truly not powerful enough to be considered first class mages, they need to be literally the best of the best of the best. Shes just blunt and harsh, and she keeps herself distant from her students because she knows she has to see them die someday. If anything her rivalry with Frieren is probably one of the relationships she values most because it’s not so short lived. Does she need to be mean? No. But she’s thousands of years old and jaded, I think most people would be at that point.

HBelmont67

Tbf, Frieren didn't care about taking it in the first place. She participated for Fern's sake.

HBelmont67

That last one always gets me with this voice actor 🤣

Brakthir

I think its been a while since they posted this but I had to comment. Y'all completely missed the point of Serie and its a bit frustrating seeing you react that negatively to her. I'm screaming on the inside. That is all.
