Vox machina mondayy 🗣

Hazbin Hotel comes back October 29th! I’m so excited for season two, and I loved your reaction to it. Plus, more Jeremy Jordan.

KomoUpNorth

How old is Scanlan? Lol not joking hes 69 lol and yes that was intentional

Geese

If you guys are looking for another anime to watch once you finish what is currently out for this show, I can't recommend Dan Da Dan enough honestly. It has a similar feel to it as Mob Psycho, but it's also completely unique in a lot of ways. The animation is also superb, and it has a really fun and entertaining story as well. Also Aleks Le is in the dub cast!

Jarom Worthen

Ya'll could probably start the Mighty Nein series. It's the second campaign of critical role that's been animated. It starts November 19th.

StorytellerDave

Orthax is referred to with 'they' because genderless demonic smoke monster. J'mon Sa Ord goes by 'they' and 'emprex' because non-binary character. There's more to J'mon Sa Ord, but I would not wanna spoil anything.

Uscmiller22

Fun fact: Dr. Drenzel the Half-Orc performer who sings in this episode is none other than Matt Mercer himself singing. Also Dr. Drenzel is based off of Dr. Dre, and Scanlan is loosely based on Eminem. In the campaign Scanlan got his start traveling and performing with Dr. Drenzel, they were good friends and not strangers like in the show.

StorytellerDave

Mighty Nein - the other Critical Role show comes out November 19th, which if my math is not wrong, you finish this season on the 24th of November, the Monday just after the Mighty Nein show starts. That's like perfect if you want to start the show. It could replace the slot perfectly, heck you could even re-arrange the schedule to watch the episodes as they come out if you really want to, and well...Mighty Nein is worth it, cuz it's THE most popular thing Critical Role ever did, it's SUCH a good campaign. My favourite by far.

HBelmont67

I second this. The timing is PERFECT, and I'm curious to see what The Might Nein is like, since I don't have Amazon Prime.

Suplee215

Actual answer for Scanlan age is 69. Sam kept that as a deep sedret until the wrap up

HBelmont67

Ohhhhh man, I can't wait for the next episode . . .

KidCryptid

Agreed! Keep the train running!

HBelmont67

Ripley's probably the most interesting villain in Vox Machina cause I can UNDERSTAND where she's coming from (even more later in the season). She's essentially pitching the same vision of equality as Amon from Legend of Korra or Overhaul from My Hero Academia, only less radical and with a different route. I mean, look at what happened at Whitestone with the Briarwoods, or Emon with the Chroma Conclave. If firearms were more mass-produced like she's saying, those events probably would've gone differently. The only hitch to her proposal is Orthax, unfortunately. Otherwise, I'd have no real problem with what she's doing.

HBelmont67

"Mother f*cker" "Well, apt." Montana has some of the best jokes and timing. 🤣🤣

StorytellerDave

According to the subtitles and wiki it's actually written 'emperex' but I prefer emprex the extra e seems superfluous, but then again that's applicable to the spellings of half the English language

StorytellerDave

Yeah and I love that the show has room to elaborate a bit more on her backstory too. Though it did make me question why she'd ever ally with Delilah, or maybe she always intended to betray/kill her once she got what she wanted.

Will Arzt

Are you guys gonna react to the demon slayer movie when it comes to streaming platforms or are you gonna watch in theaters?

HBelmont67

There's a Vox Machina tie-in comic called the Whitestone Chronicles (Part I) that details Ripley's time with the Briarwoods.

HBelmont67

If they wanted to cheat and see it in theaters, I would understand 100%. I've already watched it twice, and am gonna see it again today.

cryptc

and to give some context, gnomes mature at about same rate as humans, and usually settle down by age 40, but can live to 350-500 years old.

Will Arzt

I've seen it too i just really would love to watch they're reaction

BLUEMONKEY18

Fun fact! Scalan’s VA is also the English Phoenix Wright so that Objection! Was very well rehearsed

HBelmont67

Forreal. Who knows how long it'll take to come to streaming and disc. My guess would be December at the earliest, and that's being generous. 😓

HBelmont67

Personally, I don't much care for the fact that they changed the intro. It's not a bad intro by any means, and it certainly fits the more serious current tone of the story, but I was very attached to the first intro and felt it worked regardless.

Jace

You were asking what else to watch - I'm not sure if you guys ever react to anything "live", but the Mighty Nein series (the second campaign of CR) is actually premiering Nov 19! It's my fave season, and has a whole different vibe than Vox Machina. I hope you guys react to it!

Robert Bonfante

That first intro is one of my all-time favorite intros. It kind of reminds me of the old school Thundercats cartoon's intro. Although that one is still top-tier.

Robert Bonfante

The tell is that she admits to Percy that she doesn't understand humanity. In short, she completely lacks empathy. She doesn't care for the lives that are lost along her path. She has no problem allying with completely evil beings (hell, the Chroma Conclave aren't even human). She totally has sociopathic traits. Even Amon, even though he's a fraud -- there was some sincerity to his quest for equality. Ripley ultimately seems out for herself. Lastly, having seen Percy waste a ton of bullets on the dragons, I'm not sure the guns would've made much difference. I am saying all this to say that she is one of my favorite characters and villains on this show. She's like some twisted funhouse mirror reflection of Percy. Her character design is also great -- she is both anachronistic and slightly steampunk in her look.

Ellie

i believe at this point in the campaign they were about level 14/15 and they actually end up getting to level 20 by the end

StorytellerDave

Personally I liked the new intro, but I am sure next season will have a new one so maybe you'll like that one more. Also - Super curious about Mighty Nein intro bc the campaign's intro - your turn to roll - is the best intro ever.

StorytellerDave

Well, Percy's big gun did some decent damage to Umbrasyl a few times, the revolver not so much. But regarding her motives, I don't buy that she's all in it for herself, given we see what kickstarted her journey.

David L

Based on the main sequence of events that is happening, I'd guess around this time of the campaign they are ~Lvl14 about to hit 15. So yeah we are really getting into epic levels (one could even say they are practically gods, but one probably shouldn't)

Ellie

Oh and also just so you guys know, J'Mon Sa Ord uses they/them pronouns

HBelmont67

Just rewatched it in 4DX. Super duper fun, if you know what 4DX is. ♾️🏯😁

HBelmont67

Okay, after seeing the latest post, I've changed my mind to Castlevania, sorry. 😅

HBelmont67

My support goes to Castlevania to succeed this show in the fall. Absolutely PHENOMENAL watch, with amazing and underrated animation, fully nuanced and entertaining characters, and rich storytelling that you two would LOOOOOVE.

RED

Yall should do some table reactions especially bards lament

HBelmont67

It's on Netflix. I hope you enjoy it. 😁

Confusedpup

Mighty Nein which is their second campaign will release November 19th. There is no spoiler/Conection between the two campaigns despite them taking place in the same world just 20 years apart.

Robert Bonfante

I'll buy that at some point, she may have been more sincere, but her actions in the following episodes, not to mention her deal with Orthax, which is at this point in time a SPOILER, kind of kills it for me. Her backstory is tragic - for sure.

dannydarko27

The campaign book Call of the Netherdeep by Matt Mercer has a portion in Ank'heral. Its a fun adventure with its own Vestige as the macguffin. I recommend it even if it's just to read the lore and story of the book.

AuroraZero_

as well as that pose that scanlan hit too haha

StorytellerDave

No do not do that please do not spoil that for them. We literally saw Taryon in the teaser for Vox Machina season 4, it's gonna come next season, no spoilers until then.

Mark Leiter

Here is a neat easter egg ,n case no one has mentioned it, the scene where Grog talks to the two kids. That is actually Travis voicing Grog, Laura voicing one of the kids and their 5 year old son voicing the other. The recorded a play session with their child and found a way to put it in the animation. That is so cool.

Ferret

Am I the only one who thought Montana jumping to "the guy who invented K-cups" instead of Alfred Nobel, the guy who very famously regretted his invention being used for war and mass killing, very funny?
