Fun fact: I believe 12 was commonly the age in which the debts of fathers could be placed on their sons in many Viking cultures as they are old enough to swear oaths whereas younger than that can’t. I’m pretty sure that’s why mistletoe could harm Baldur, when Freya made all things swear to not harm him mistletoe wasn’t old enough to swear an oath. I could be off on some of this, it’s been a long while since I’ve looked into this stuff.

You guys really need to prioritize this anime over HxH or smth please 😭🙏 The quality of story telling and character development this season of Vinland is so peak especially compared to the Chimera Ant Arc.

Such a good episode, and the punishment scene is so good to naturally show off your characters values. Snake being a hard ass but wanting leniency when it comes down to it. Ketil having to struggle with the norms of Norse society, also having his own son reinforce his fear of war. Wondering what his son must have seen to turn thorgil into what he is today. And the gems thorgil and pater. First pater, its very telling of the world they live in that even pater, not some noblemen that never had any struggle, but a slave, say that a flogging was a just punishment, a punishment I’m sure he has been given countless times in his servitude. Finally thorgil, he said he likes the kid because of his guts, and to be honest, I believe him, he has no reason to put on a face, right now he’s the prodigal war hero son returning home. Thorgil is obviously strong, to survive so long in the war in England, so he doesn’t need to feel strong beating on some kid, I wonder if he sees a gutsy warrior in the kid, and this rough beating will make him strive for strength. I could def see something similar happening to Thorgil himself when he joined the war effort by the other tested norsemen

This episode is . . . just depressing as it goes on. It starts out so fun, with Thorfinn and Einar's crops finally coming in and the ensuing romance between Einar and Arnheid. But as soon as Thorgill's arrival is announced, the tone shifts rather starkly. Like, I felt that slap Arnheid received when it happened. 🫤

Vinland Saga is a very dour and serious show, so when it decides to be funny, it hits harder. Einar praying so enthusiastically is hilarious, but there's a scene with Olmar a few episodes later that I'm REALLY looking forward to. 🤣🤣

I think you're too fixated on the line "A true warrior needs no sword." Thors isn't a perfect person, and neither "warrior" nor "sword" are meant to be taken literally.

What I said vs what u think i said dont even correlate. I said i dont like his voice ie it doesnt fit thorgil nothing to do with sounding Japanese

it kinda does correlate. the actual characters are norse..so you'd prefer the Japanese voice on a Norse character? Lol I mean. Go off king. Your opinion is valid and all, just kinda odd in this specific case. It's just kinda like whenever in anime they go to like Ireland and they all speak fluent japanese lol for me it just takes me out of the world. But it makes sense cause it's all made by a japanese studio y'know?

I agree with you Naruto Uzumaki lol. Its not that I want him to speak in japanese or norse his voice acting is just bad. It has no character at all it sounds like hes just reading the script. Look at Thorfinn, in season one just from his voice you can tell hes angry, hurt, passionate, young. In season 2 hes played completely differently, his voice is empty, depressed, you can feel hes given up. Thorgills voice should be powerful, intimidating, violent but its really giving nothing

100% I still think at this point in the show we have not seen someone come remotely close to the "true warrior" that Thors was talking about.
