The interesting thing about Ikalgo's fight with Killua was that he never planned on kiling him himself. He shot him with those flees, either making him bleed out or making him fall into the water where the other aquatic Ants would have ripped him apart. Death by his design, yes, but never by his own two hands.

In the episode before Ikalgo asked himself if he was strong enough not to kill or too weak to kill. And I think this confirms that he is strong enough not to kill. Becase he is willing without a second thought to endure pain, suffering and death to keep those he cares about safe, buthe is not willing to kill a defensless enemy combatant. To me, that is strength, not weakness. Mercy and an ironclad moral compass should never be seen as weak.

IMO gyro lived. It would make sense that all of the NGL soliders protected him and did everything they could to help him escape and live. I'm sure the ants wouldn't waste time on searching for a single human
