in this episode we see Jinshi upset by the premise of Maomao leaving but also not wanting to interfere with her free will, which is a big change from his previous actions and thoughts towards her. Later in the pleasure district he is distraught at the thought of her being a concubine and offers to buy out Maomao’s contract at the verdigris house. Making what is said to be a large payment and gifting Maomao a rare ingredient. What do you think of this exchange?

This was the first time Maomao blushed at something Jinshi did. How do you think the show is handeling slow burn romance?

Maomao has been the only character in the show immune to Jinshi's charms until this episode when she finally gets flustered by him. What do you think it was about this interaction and circumstances that brought out such a reaction from Maomao?

StorytellerDave

How smooth was that move from Jinshi, and do you think Maomao still just genuinely doesn't get it or is she intentionally trying to ignore the possibilities?

Do you think Gaoshun arranged for what was a very expensive meeting?

How sweet was it for Jinshi to not only buy out Maomao from the brothel, but also buy Maomao with those insect roots?

Sparky :D

Jinshi originally viewed Maomao as a helpful pawn that he could manipulate. Even though we know her firing came from a severe lack of communication on both ends, what are your opinions about him deciding to let her go rather than potentially keeping her there against her will?

Scribble

Jinshi was wrestling with whether or not he should fire Maomao (which is what he thinks she wants) or keep her at the palace. What do you think about how Jinshi views their current relationship and what he wants their relationship to be, while considering the power dynamics they currently have at play?
