Gyokuyou's seriously a QUEEN for how she cares about Maomao and her other ladies-in-waiting. Seeing her make Jinshi scurry off with just a look was hilarious. Funny how they're the same age. 😅

Babybear47

Idk why but there's 6:48 of blackness at the end of this discussion/review and outtrow, thought to say!

Babybear47

I've heard that during that part, that's the only time you see jinshi's ankles throughout the series and it's funny just because of how he left lol

HBelmont67

That's such a weird thing to notice 😂

Babybear47

Lol it is but also regardless funny just cuz of the funny moments jinshi has throughout the series, honestly there's a few of them wonder if it be a counter @Gabe lol JK I mean maybe there's definitely funny moments for this series from jinshi and maomao

"Laxatives in your food later!" Lmao

starcityneko

these eps always go by fast fast:( this show is absolutely amazing at threading together seemingly innocuous scenes, and Maomao’s sherlock brain blasts are just the cherry on top. can’t wait to see how you guys put more pieces together as the show progresses - there’s lots of little details to nibble on!!💜 (also the maomao and dr house memes in the fandom are top tier)

By foster siblings they mean lady Ah Duo and the current emperor got fed breast milk by the same person. Back in the day, the actual mother in upper classes did not lactate, that was the job of a servant.

*SPOILER COMMENT KENNY DONT LOOK* Damn… galaxy brain moment from Kenny right there… referencing Concubine Ah-Duo… “She looks like Jinshi” Maybe I just don’t have a brain for mysteries, but I did NOT catch that the first time.. so the fact that he mentioned it in passing 🤯

HBelmont67

The way Lishu acted all welcoming when she thought Jinshi was visiting, only to act like she didn't when she realized it was Maomao. ☺️ Lishu's is absolutely precious; I haven't felt such a warm and protective feeling towards a character since Eri from MHA. 🥲 Like, I smile every time she appears on screen, but then I remember how messed up her situation is, and then I'm sad. 😓

HBelmont67

Gaoshun doesn't get payed enough for this. 😂

HBelmont67

I genuinely don't know who's ladies-in-waiting are worse: Lihua's with their incompetence, or Lishu's with their backhandedness. Lishu's are intentionally manipulating a very young and impressionable girl, but Lihua's almost killed her after already allowing her infant to die. Makes you appreciate Maomao's fellow ladies-in-waiting under Gyokuyou even more.

Sparky :D

I’m not even gonna lie I’ve read all 16 light novels and the “honey scene” is undoubtedly the most uncomfortable scene in my own opinion 😭 like I cringe every time lmao

StorytellerDave

Maomao is kind of an unintentional Sherlock Holmes and I love it. She is so adamant about how she wants nothing to do with anything and does not want to be involved and thinks things like - "I wish I didn't see that" - but we all know she's lying to herself, she can't rest without figuring stuff out, she was so sleepy but then literally couldn't sleep because she kept thinking about the mystery

HBelmont67

I'm relieved that THAT'S as bad as it gets.

Sparky :D

Honestly some people may say a scene from LN5 is worse but we will just have to see how the anime handles it in season 3 because the light novel translator gave a very messy translation which led to some controversy 😅 But genuinely with all the context I still say this is as uncomfortable as it gets 😭

David L

I was just about to bring up the ending of LN5, lol. It was certainly a choice, glad to know it may have been a poor translation. The "Laxatives in your food later" line is absolutely stuck in my though.

HBelmont67

Phew, that could've been a LOT worse.

MaSeshield9277

Is jinshi The son that was delivered but didn't actually die. Instead he was kept a secret and disguised as a eunuch so as to never be seen as a threat to the throne. Her father was expelled as a way of keeping him safe for being the only person that harbored the secret. That's my working theory anyways It probably doesn't make sense.

Sparky :D

Oh yeah Kevin is NOTORIOUS at mistranslating things (sometimes intentionally leaving stuff out at some points 🫩) but there are a ton of really good fan translations for that particular scene that make it a little less messy And even with the mess I still prefer it to the honey scene i physically cringe lmao

wanira 11

Are you watching along for the first time? That's so fun!

MaSeshield9277

Yeah for a couple of shows now I've been watching for the first time cuz I like their commentary and it's a good reason to watch a show I'd normally not have.

HBelmont67

What was the other one?

MaSeshield9277

Mob psycho I believe is the other one that comes to mind. I hadn't seen it other than the first episode

Cameron Dougherty

ok sooooooo, I saw that you two were going to react to this show and it was one I hadn't seen yet. I ended up binging the entire two seasons in the last two days. It is such a good blend of everything; drama, mystery, comedy, also educational which is always a plus. I am now ready to go on this adventure with you guys and I can't wait!

Craig Payne

I think it's something of a translation error/limitation; the light novel uses "milk sibling" but it's not really a phrase or term we really have a word for.

TrashPandaWolf

Milk siblings is the correct term. It's a fairly common concept/term in western historical stories (fictional or actual accounts) aswell. But if you're not into historical stuff, I don't know when you would ever come across it nowerdays. So going with 'foster siblings' makes sense. Especially since fostering other nobles kids to strengthen alliances or ensure compliance, wasn't uncommon back in the day (at least in Europe).
