This movie is absolutely STUNNING to look at, and not just cause it's a movie budget. I'm pretty sure it's animated by Studio Mir, the same people who did Legend of Korra, which still holds up TREMENDOUSLY well for being over a decade old.

21:51 Yeah, it was crazy, it honestly might be one of the biggest leaks in the decade so far. The entire movie, start to finish, leaking 9 months before its intended release date, before even a single teaser trailer or screenshot had been revealed about it. So many places on social media were talking about it, posting screenshots, posting clips, drawing fanart of characters, making TikTok edits, etc, that you’d assume the movie had just released normally. Most Avatar related communities and fandom spaces just outright gave up on trying to moderate or hide spoilers anymore because of just how many people had already seen the movie.

I'm not condoning the leaks, but I have a strong feeling that if Paramount had just released this movie in theaters as originally planned, none of this would've happened.

It wouldn’t have mattered. The leaker (ImStillDissin) did it because he could, and didn’t actually realise that the Avatar movie would cause so much drama as he had no clue about the size of the fanbase or the following. He used an exploit in some Screening software (a platform used to give journalists early screenings of movies securely) to download the movie early and he was infamous in the community for having terrible OPSEC (he didn’t even use a VPN). So bro got arrested in Singapore and is probably gonna get caned to death 💀

Also the nice thing about this is that while the staff itself is absolutely a plot device just for this movie, what makes the staff work isn’t special. Sonam made the staff as more of a focus for the spirit realm, so if someone is in touch with the spirit realm enough, another “staff” could be made that does different things, maybe it energy bends people to strictly take away bending, or give another element to a non bender, or maybe change someone’s element bending to another, and the forms at the end were just spirit realm energy being focused on a person. I get why movies have plot devices in them for short conflicts like this but it’s nice when something similar is on the table for the main story in whatever form it takes

I don't think it was communicated outright in the movie, as I also had to be told this after the fact, but Tagah didn't just drop Sonam's temple on Republic City out of spite - the city is actually literally built over the ruins of Jharana, so he's just pulling it out of the spirit world in the same place Sonam sent it in from.

I also appreciate how Sonam's staff was explained and integrated into the universe. Something like this that changes a fundamental rule of the story (some people have bending, others don't) could've so easily felt like a plot hole. But having it work with the same energy as the Lion Turtles, whom we know could give and take away bending, helped make the staff feel natural and organic to the lore. Mad props to them.

Tagah's probably become my favorite villain in the Avatar franchise. He's someone I fully understood, and his connection to the main character was unlike any other villain's (unless you wanna count Zuko).

Interesting detail about the Denied archer lady: She's dressed in the same outfit as the Yuyan Archers, which you might remember from the episode in season 1 where Aang had to gather frozen frogs for his friends to suck on.

I will only say this… I enjoyed this movie A LOT, my one comment is… “Oh no I’m out of water” Did Katara SPECIFICALLY not learn… S2EP6 The Blind Bandit… She can Make water.. plus.. she dropped water on the ground.. she’s Waterbender Master Katara, that should not have been a moment…. Edit; I continued to watch, and saw it again, She actually picks up the water she dropped earlier 😅😂, proving my point.

I liked how everyone looked and sounded as adults, but I think Zuko and Toph had the biggest glow-ups. 🤩 Toph's just the right amount of jacked, and long hair did Zuko GOOD; he looks like Jinshi from Apothecary Diaries. Also, in this movie, he's voiced by Steven Yuen, aka Avatar Wan, as well as Mark from Invincible.

Yeeessss this movie was so amazing! Like EVERYTHING, the characters, the story, the music, the COLOURS!? Omfg im so happy on how this turned out and I cant wait to see more from the original studio! I am sad that they didnt use like the original voice actors considering..they have grown up as well lol but I know theres Hollywood rules about actors playing their ethnicity and such, and that being said they still did SO GOOD!! 😍 makes me more excited about Seven Havens!

Nice. Just to give my 2 cents on this film, I enjoyed it but felt missing enough meat to it. A lot ofnthe themes are retreads from Korra and it doesnt feel like its leading to them or tackling them at a different angle. Feels like this movie could have been split into 2 or a mini series. Show how the group of nonbenders eventually bleed into the equalists. Show that the staff is channeling major energy that occurs when major shifts between the spirit world happen.

I think this is a very justifed deus ex machina with Katara. Its established she heal people on the verge of death when Aang was struck by lightning. Yes it took super special water to do so amd they already established how spiritual the location they are in is.

Plus, Katara's never fought an airbender before. As a waterbender, her element is almost always the least readily available, and it'll just keep getting blown away. Her running out of water here made perfect sense.

"What more could you ask for?" Honestly, the ONE thing I would have loved, is a scene showing tenzen being born! The movie based around aang full of guilt, and trying desperately to bring back his people, ending with the birth of the first new air bender? I feel like THAT could have been such a beautiful little touch! But still an absolute GLORIOUS movie! This was my first time watching, and holy hell that was AWESOME!!! Side note: potential Kung fury panda reactions if Montana hasn't seen past the first one??? 🤔🤣
