I have not watched yet but hopefully this is 19 and not 14 🤣

HBelmont67

It's 19 lol. Funnily enough, they're now as far into the series as I am. I need to get caught up.

HBelmont67

Yay, Winry's here! 🐶

HBelmont67

Jinshi's continual misunderstandings and jealousy towards Lihaku this season never isn't funny. 😂

wanira 11

That kinda gets explained next ep

GooseToes

Oops I didn't realize they explain it I'll delete

Sparky :D

Fun little fact that Natsu tweeted about before (that doesn’t show up in the show or Light novels so no spoiler here) is after this event Lakan took the guard who hit Maomao and essentially kept him prisoner for two years and made sure he tormented that guard during that time He’s eventually released but Lakan was taking that shit seriously lol

Sparky :D

In defense of Jinshi’s aura farm walk, both mangas show him running with her in his arms But the light novel is a little more vague with it, Maomao just felt a gentle rocking and swaying that she considered to be pleasant Regardless I do love how this is the first time Jinshi gets annoyed when Maomao claims to be of “lowly birth” or “just a servant” since its now out in the open that by blood she’s the daughter of one of the country’s most powerful men hehehe

HBelmont67

I think the slowness better conveys the weight of this moment, along with the music.

HBelmont67

This episode is the first time Jinshi refers Maomao by her name, instead of just "Apothecary." 🥲

Sparky :D

I also kinda like the slowness of it, and it does make sense when we remember that even just holding her could make her more of a target since it already reflects the fact that he cares for her, running could paint an even bigger target on her But I LOVE this song and the lyrics when translated to English really hammer down how this event effected Jinshi: “Stared at by clear eyes, I realize All my foolishness, become a flame Let me protect your strong heart Let me illuminate the path you walk The heat I've embraced with these arms Cannot be taken by anyone”

Sparky :D

Fun lil fact that’s actually an oopsie on Kaiji Tang’s end as Jinshi wasn’t supposed to call her by name yet but I like it regardless hehehe

Sparky :D

I really do love the scene of Jinshi walking past Lakan with Maomao in his arms and the look of sheer horror on Lakan’s face Just standing there frozen only knowing his daughter is at best critically injured, or at worst dead and he had no way to confirm it just ugh such an amazing scene

HBelmont67

Oh wow, that's interesting. Never heard of a "plot hole" exclusive to a dub before. I haven't read it watched ahead, so I don't know if there's a moment Jinshi calls her by her name that's significant, but it does feel natural the way he did it here. 🥰

HBelmont67

(Spoilers) Especially considering Lakan has face blindess, and his daughter's is one of the only ones he can see. 😞 Curious what he thinks about Jinshi in this scene, however. Did he recognize his clothes or body language from their previous conversations?

Sparky :D

Oh I totally agree and do think it feels natural plus in all fairness it could be argued that Maomao wouldn’t remember him calling her by name since she got smacked in the head and then passed out and she would’ve been the only other person to hear it

David L

Funnily enough it's not actually the first time its happened. There's an earlier scene where Maomao calls the quack doctor Guen (which is his real name) even though she doesn't learn it until later. Although in her case Maomao is pretty explicitly terrible with names, and I think even in the books she has to learn his name multiple times because she only calls him "Quack" in her head.

HBelmont67

I'm curious if that guard was actually in on the attempt on Jinshi's life, or if he was just doing his job.

Sparky :D

He was not in on it! That’s in the end part of the reason why Lakan eventually released him because he recognized the fact that the guard was in truth just doing his job according to Natsu Keeping him prisoner was more so Lakan being enraged for what he did to his daughter lol

David L

I suppose since it comes from the creator it's technically true, but tbh given what's happening with Lakan in the next couple of books after season 2 I have a very hard time believing he was involved personally for long. We know too much about him and his state of mind for that to really track for me.

Sparky :D

Fair enough lol but to be fair while we do see a lot of Lakan in later books, a lot of the time we are glued to Maomao or Jinshi’s POVs so we’re not always seeing what Lakan’s up to hehehe But even if he wasn’t actively involved in torment for too long the two years time line does fit if we assume that the guard was released before the ending of LN9 (with no spoilers of course 🤭)

That last scene still hits so hard, the music, dramatic weight of it all is just fantastic. Jinshi carrying Maomao in public leaving behind a trail of blood in their wake, symbolizes that Jinshi boldly choosing love above status, money, everything that has defined his life, will have it's dire consequences. It's essentially a big forshadowing moment for the rest of the series and I love it so much

Craig Payne

I think she's "learned" Guen's name by that point, but just doesn't bother to commit it to memory, as it's rare she makes an effort to remember names.

Craig Payne

There's also a potential that too much movement could aggravate Maomao's wounds, not to mention running and tripping or running into someone could be disasterous. It's quite possible those ceremonial robes are not designed with mobility in mind.

HBelmont67

Also a good point. There was nothing wrong with that scene.

Madison T.

I read that Jinshi could not appear panicked - as a high born noble, or as royalty, depending on if he was performing the ceremony as the Prince or not, either way, if he were to show concern for a servant it would have called their relationship into question and cause unnecessary scrutiny and potentially harm Maomao. He had to walk slowly to seem as if he wasn't all that concerned while likely dying inside. Nobility cannot appear to be bothered by the well-being of the servants... I love this scene so much.

Miki

super unrelated but i gotta know who bumped the camera towards the end lol

Cen Alvi

OMYGOSHHH U GUYS ARE GETTING CLOSEEEE

Babybear47

In the moment honestly understandable no one moves after all that happened after maomao passed out

Babybear47

Can't just hurry when jinshi is holding maomao just like in MHA they can't just leave the wounded without giving a description of what injeries they have and or having the air powered student wind everything and everyone around without knowing their injuries.

Sparky :D

The Apothecary Diaries Season 3 trailer just released for those who are caught up with it!!! Cour 1 is dropping October 2nd :D hehehe

Nananki Rangwato

maomao looking like upper demon with them characters in her eyes😅

Bryce Jackson

I do like how Lakan and Maomao have basicly the same pissed off face,

Day

(Spoilers) Yes he knew because of his clothes and the comment he made to Jinshi while in his office about not being able to do anything jinshi didn't allow, hinted he knew of his true identity. There are social garments worn by total family depending on who you are so Lakan recognized the symbol on the clothing but I think he didn't realize how precious maomao was to Jinshi until that moment

Day

Yes royals typically aren't supposed to run because walking shows their status since everyone else should wait for them

Day

Fun tidbit but in east Asian palaces, you always walk on the side of the main road unless you are royalty. The palanquin travels through the middle, which is why it's so smooth, so Jinshi walking down the middle shows he is royalty which is why everyone is bowing too

BeeB

I feel that if he were to have run while holding her, it could have caused more damage to her concusion (I can't spell leave me alone) and potentially made her bleed more from her leg. He could have done like, maybe a gentle speed walk
