For the senpai question, basically just means someone who's older than you(school, someone in a higher grade, work, someone who's been their longer ect they're expected to guide and help newer people at the place they're a senpai at). Also for the go win Vs let's win thing, go win is telling someone else(the person saying it isn't part of the winning) whereas let's win is telling someone you're doing the winning together(the person saying it is part of the winning) for example "go do X" would be telling someone to go and do a thing whilst "let's do X" would be you doing the thing together

senpai just means person above you or like someone who is senior to you. like if oyu take a job someone with more experience who has been there longer is senpai. or in school its like upperclassman so anyone a grade or more above.

Wow, after all the anime they've watched, I'm surprised the term "senpai" hasn't come up. Just for clarity, senpai is upperclassmen and kohai is lowerclassmen. Go check out Don't Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro; it'll explain everything hehehe. 😏

george

still not over everyone in karasuno getting a funko pop except suga

HBelmont67

Wait, there are Haikyuu Funko Pops?

george

yesss i want them

Renn.88

Well they watch dubs, which mostly dont use honorifics. Haikyuu changes Senpai to Upperclassman. Only reason theyre even learning Senpai and what it means is cuz the Dub uses the same episode names as the Sub even tho the dub itself never uses the term

HBelmont67

Still taken back that we can upload pictures on Patreon, or at least on THEIR Patreon. It doesn't seem to be the case with others I've seen. Also, Funko Pop is as old as I am, apparently.

Some notes/nuances/fun facts for you guys about this episode! Suga's final play before being subbed out features all of the third years in their jersey number order: Daichi (#1) receives, Suga (#2) sets, and Asahi (#3) spikes. Oikawa's nickname for Suga in the sub is "Mr. Refreshing", which is a pun in Japanese! A word for "refreshing" is "sugasugashi". In the sub when Suga comes off the court, Coach Ukai says something like of "we'll have to use this strategy next time" and that's why Suga gets emotional, because Coach Ukai saying "next time" means this wasn't his only time playing. (Takeda says I think the words "next time" meant a lot to Suga). At 22:46, Suga is initially thinking of saying "go win this" but switches to "let's win this", including himself as part of the winning effort.

I mean I'd feel worse for Daichi since that picture is the starting lineup minus him. Unless he gets one too and it's just not pictured. In which case it's just the starting lineup which makes sense.

Is The Office just weird about it or something? Or is it one of those Dwight things where it's framed like he's the weirdo but actually he's trying to be polite and everyone else is just a jerk about it. Kinda wish they wouldn't translate it personally. It feels like saying upperclassman, while technically correct, doesn't really do it justice since we don't really use that as a term of endearment, which Senpai seems to be.

HBelmont67

I mean, Noya does have a more marketable and unique design than Daichi.

This is my favorite episode of season 1. I love Suga and I love seeing the development of Tobio in this episode!

A teaser for the next haikyuu movie just came out and it looks AMAZING I'm so hyped

kay

Senpai is just like upperclassman or older. Not anything weird lol

Renn.88

The office is just weird about it. I remember that episode. That episode iirc, came out when otaku cringe memes were big online. Honorifics are hit or miss in the west. Some people like it cuz its "true" to the original, but I myself find it cringey cuz we dont use that system in our grammar so it just feels too tryhard to me outside persona

“If there was an ultimate play in volleyball it would be scoring 25 points on serves alone.” My team in high school actually did that one time. It was wild! 😭🤣

There is a store at the mall near me that sells collectibles and people can buy and trade Funko Pops. They have a HUGE section of Funkos. I go almost every month and they have never, not once had any of the Haikyuu ones. 😭 I’m starting to think they don’t actually exist 💔

george

you can get asahi and tanaka on amazon. the haikyu funkos are more expensive than regular ones for some reason

Kiribukai

I’m so excited!!! I do wish they would have dropped a date though! 😭 the anticipation is killing me!

Kiribukai

Ooh, That’s good to know!! I will have to grab them one day (unfortunately I’m in merch jail right now bc of all the Haikyuu stuff I bought in Japan a couple weeks ago 🤣) But I’ve been on the hunt for Hinata, Kags, and Tsuki for so long with absolutely no luck! 😭
