I love Iwa so much and think he is such an underrated character. He needs some more love and recognition! He is the sole reason Oikawa didn’t go down the same road Kageyama did. Sure, Iwa is the typical Shonen trope of the “hot headed and punchy” character, but he’s so much more than that. 😭 He’s been the voice of reason in Oikawa’s life for a while now. He reminds him not to overwork himself, stops him from making a huge mistake when he was spiraling from not being good enough, drops some nuggets of wisdom, and kicks Oikawa’s ass when he needs it. Oikawa and Iwaizumi is my favorite friendship in Haikyuu. They will forever be dear to me 🥹

I can't believe I've watched this show like 20 times and I've just now noticed the parallel between Oikawa and Sugawara. Both of them were/are 3rd years who had their positions "threatened" by 1st year Kageyama, but they responded to it very differently. Oikawa felt threatened by and resentful of Kageyama, while Suga was disappointed but chose to accept Kageyama as a teammate rather than treating him like an enemy. Of course, Oikawa was a middle schooler when it happened to him, while Suga's a high schooler, so it makes sense that Oikawa was more immature about it.
