Percy and Vex's scene at the start is even more adorable now that we know the two are married. 🥰

[Keeping this as spoiler free as possible] I would say, check out the credits to see who voiced the creepy girl. Might be surprised to discover the VA with possible hints to the future. Her intro was extremely well done considering what really happened at the table in C1.

Not the hugest fan of horror, but this episode was just the right amount of creepy. Season one had a great horror tone that got kinda dropped when the Chroma Conclave showed up.

You-know-who has GREAT range. I'm glad K & M didn't pause and get spoiled by Prime's voice actor recognition feature.

Yeah, I love the CC but they turned it into a bit more traditional fantasy, just by virtue of being big brutish dragons. season 1’s story was vaguely horrifying

This episode turned it up to an 11 with the scary. It felt VERY reminiscent to Resident Evil: Village, now that I think about it. The farther we get into the first campaign, the more the Chroma Conclave arc feels more like a distraction. The Briarwoods and the threat of the Whispered One just feels more interesting a threat than a bunch of dragons.

I was never a big fan of horror as a stand-alone genre, but I do love the mixing of horror with fantasy. In general, the story writing in fantasy, at least in visual media, has been better than the trope-heavy horror movies or shows. But good horror imagery or atmosphere works well with sword and sorcery genre-writing. My favorite example is Peter Jackson. Before LOTR, he did low budget indie horror movies (ie. The Frighteners). But LOTR hit hard in part because PJ was great with horror imagery. His vision of the Nazgul, for example, was an excellent example of this.

Does she count as a hear-me-out? Cause she's sort of adorable.

For what it's worth, none of this is a retcon. I watched the first season of Critical Role years and years ago, back when it was still airing. So going into season 1 of Vox Machina, I knew where the story was going, and I was curious to see what changes they were going to make, seeing as they had the foresight of that knowledge. All of this has been foreshadowed since season 1. I'm not sure if you'll ever go back and check out the earlier episodes again, but these decisions have been set up for years in advance, and a lot of us who'd watched the live play were able to figure out this was where Vox Machina was leading. The subtle introduction of a certain character you met this episode is genuinely one of the craziest pieces of simultaneous payoff and foreshadowing I've ever seen a story accomplish. Everyone in these comments is talking around it so as not to spoil anything, but yeah, the way Matt managed to weave Exandria's lore into and throughout Vox Machina, while making the necessary changes to avoid D&D's copyright, has been fascinating.

Tbf to Percy he didn't sneak off to study the orb like Vex asked. He woke up from a nightmare and heard noises, checked on the noises and found the footprints lol
