The danger of Earrings in the cold depends of course on the region. Having Metal Earrings in a Blizzard would be a fast way to freeze your Ears off.

Also, I think the bigger problem with automail that isn't suited for the cold is that it will also give its wearer frostbite. Which, since Al has no skin, he doesn't have to worry about.

Yeah, came here to say this. When Ed arrived at Briggs, they informed him that the flesh touching his automail would freeze. And Ed remarked that something was wrong because his shoulder hurt. So it was just about flesh and metal, not so much machining.

Definitely think it's a combination of both. There's the danger of frostbite, but Ed wasn't able to move his arm at all during the fight with Buccaneer, I've always assumed that it was something to do with the hydraulics system in the automail.

This is my favorite intro also I love this section of the show

Kenny has the right idea with the automail vs. armor thing, but it goes even beyond that. Aside from the cold messing with Ed's internal parts, there was also the HUGE risk of frostbite in all the places where his skin touches the automail. Al, on the other hand, is just metal. No complex mechanisms for the cold to interfere with, but also zero risk of exposure.

So, is nobody going to mention the fact that in the intro, Kenny said Scar was being held by Winry? I'm just picturing the literal reverse of the final shot from episode 38 with Winry standing there, effortlessly holding Scar under one arm. I think I like that version better.

That was the joke in FMA theater, the parody show that does short parody sketched of parts of the show and one was Winry holding Scar with a wrench in her hand and glowing red eyes lol
