[Teaser] Expanded Station Generation (Patreon)
Content
Hey everyone and welcome to a little teaser.
As you know, we're hard at work on Vanilla Gravships Expanded - Chapter 2: The Battle. Now, we couldn't really have a chapter labelled The Battle without tackling attacking orbital stations, right?
Currently, the amazing Trading Guild has very puny and ancient looking orbital installations. I mean, take a look:
When I first saw them, I was incredibly disappointed. These stations look ruined. They're filled with rusted, ancient technology, they look run down, their floors are rusty and it doesn't really convey the idea of 'an incredibly powerful trading guild'. On top of that, those big Gauss cannons are always disabled!
Well, hold my beer, because I have something for you.
I have decided to redesign these stations. Not only the giant cannons will be operational (and very deadly), but the station itself will look high-tech and sophisticated enough to be believable.
I set out to create a huge assortment of prefabs which will be randomly picked to create orbital stations. Since the giant gauss cannons will be operational, I also needed to ensure that you get plenty of loot from these stations. This I'm achieving through special container crates that you can crack open to get random items that an orbital trader would normally store. This way, each container is a cool loot box you can open, and you never know what you'll get!
I have created many new props to replace the 'ancient [insertPropName]' that the old orbital stations were littered with. These new props breathe new life into the orbital station rooms and corridors, making it seem like the station is usable, lived in, and difficult to understand due to all the technological doodads.
Just remember: attacking it will be incredibly difficult. You still need signal jammer to even attempt that, and when you land, the signal jammer will stun enemy artillery only for a brief duration. After they get their bearings again, these giant cannons will eliminate your gravship.
But the loot is definitely worth an honest attempt!
