Hey folks and welcome to an actual roadmap, updated April 2023. I was quite busy these last few days as I just got a new PC, so I had to move everything to it etc. Wasn't easy, but had to be done.We have worked very hard on a number of mods now, and we also had to do some changes. If you keep on reading, I am going into detail when it comes to what's coming.

What have we released?

In the last months we have released Vanilla Factions Expanded Empire, a major overhaul to the Royalty DLC Empire, as well as a 1.4 update to Asari and the Reapers, which was quite a challenge.

What are we testing right now?

Vanilla Vehicles Expanded has been in testing for quite a long time, but it's important you understand how big of an undertaking this mod is. It's not just reskinning animals and pretending they are vehicles: Smash Phil has created an absolute beast of a framework - vehicles are brand new entities, with their own unique parameters, and we had to test extra hard to ensure they work in every context of RimWorld. For example, there were issues with AoE (explosion) damage and how they should affect multi-cell entities, as well as stuff like putting Mechanoids into the vehicles (are they passengers? Are they cargo? Can they drive?). Do not point your pitchforks at me: I'm just a recipient of the Vehicles Framework. Until the Vehicles Framework is out, we can't release Vanilla Vehicles Expanded, but we are now entering the final testing stage - which is the Release Candidate. This means that all the bugs are now gone and we are just making sure everything is release ready.

Vanilla Animals Expanded - Waste Animals is also entering testing stage now. This mod adds a large number of new, unique wasteland mutations that are bound to appear in your game if you tinker with the waste mechanic in Biotech DLC. These animals only appear in polluted biomes - they will not appear if you prefer green energy. Probably for the better too, as Pestigators are absolutely terrifying.

Vanilla Races Expanded - Sanguophage is also about to enter the testing stage - we're running internal tests on it right now. This mod introduces three new sanguophage subxenotypes: Strigoi, Ekkimian and Bruxa, each with unique looks, abilities and characteristics. This mod also introduces new hemogen types: Animal, Corpse and Sanguophage, each providing the consumer with unique traits. On top of that, you will now be able to put prisoners in draincaskets and pump the hemogen through a pipe network into your deathrest devices!

What are we developing?

Work is actively being done on a number of mods. Vanilla Vehicles Expanded - Tier 3 is deep in the works and hopefully will be ready shortly after the release of Vehicles Expanded, so that you can drive your Marshal tanks into enemy lines.

Vanilla Factions Expanded - Deserters is also in the works, as you guys have spammed my inbox with requests for that mod. I cover it in depth in a series of devblogs on my Patreon, so be sure to check them out.

Vanilla Factions Expanded - Ultratech is slowly progressing, but it will really get some speed once Deserters is out. There is only so much we can do in the time we have.

Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Recycling has also entered development. It's not just recycling you can expect from it, but also expansion of the waste-producing power sources, to really fuel your recycling endeavours!

Vanilla Events Expanded - Caravans is also in development. This mod will add new events that can occur randomly as you travel the world, Fallout 1-2 style. You can find abandoned animals on your path, or maybe even sleeping mechanoids with a prize waiting. Many of the events will have new outcomes based on what colonists with what skills travel in the caravan - and sometimes, having a specific trait will ensure the best resolution! Or the worst.

What new additions can you expect?

We have a small number of new additions planned. My primary focus right now is adding Toxblades to Vanilla Persona Weapons Expanded, but we've also decided it's about time to add Vanilla Races Expanded - Highmates to the mix. VRE-Highmates expands greatly on the Highmate content, featuring a brand new psychic bond system, in which you can select how the bond will affect both individuals, by using lovely wedding vows. Exciting stuff. Oh, and Highmates may or may not have cat ears you filthy savages.

What mods are on hold?

We had to put Vanilla Rituals Expanded on hold due to personal matters in the life of the developer responsible for the mod. As it's her mod, we don't want to develop it behind her back. The mod will return once she's ready.

As much as it brings me sadness to say it, we're contemplating putting Rim-Effect: Turians and Gangs on hold for now (or, release it in a much smaller state than I originally wanted). The drive I had to do this mod was caused by me replaying Mass Effect series, and that has sort of burnt out now. My cold analytical mind can't help but dread at the thought of devoting hundreds of hours for a mod that may gather at most 15 thousand subscribers, when the same amount of time on a Vanilla Factions Expanded mod can reach hundreds of thousands of people.

Decision hasn't been made yet, but unless I get a sudden push to release some Mass Effect related content, I don't see it moving anywhere for time being. Does anyone know any good Mass Effect books or something that might help get me back on track?

Oh, can't wait to get the details post on Sanguophages. The hints here are really enticing. Is there any chance that when you said highmates "may or may not have cat ears", you meant that would be an option in the mod to turn high mate car ears off?

Kevin Bromley

This is easily the best patreon investment I've ever made. Your creativity is amazing.

Oleg Oleg

Awooga, catgirl highmates I bet so many people expressed interest in the catgirls and vanilla loving expanded of the April fools preview that you actually decided to expand upon highmates and add the cat ears, didn't you?

Captain Noname

I'm really hoping that the cat ears are on optional, non-standard setting...

luke goodjohn

For the mass effect mods they are a staple of my list, if you want some inspiration check out the modding den on discord its given me inspiration for many mass effect runs because of there amazing work

Jonatan

Oskar, just think about Mass Effect 4 and Mass Effect TV Serie and get some hype to get back on track.

Monsterman

Can you please just release turians in some capacity? Even what you had a year ago would be fine. I get you're sick of mass effect but please just make it at least a drell level mod

Monsterman

Like I really just want some turians.

noddistVitae

Ah well. Rip Rim-Effect. We've had a good ride

ExBeNN

Bro got gaslighted into making a catgirls mod 😭😭

Jason McGinn

[It's not just reskinning animals and pretending they are vehicles]. But just imagine how hilarious it would have been watching an APC slowly trundle around the map eating grass =D

Lyn the Cookie

Vanilla Caravans Expanded inspired by Fallout 2 events? Now we can experience running all the way from tribal village Arroyo to the Navarro Pirate Base to steal a Cataphract Armor but being destroyed by a warcasket with a minigun mid-way across the Rimworld Wasteland.

Captain Casual

Darn. I wanted me some Warhammer. Ah well. :p

Smaco

B- but, the Turian mod is Commander Shepard favorite mod on the Citadel :(

DarenGC

Shame about the turian mod. There are some good mass effect books out there. Plus the Dark Horse comics. Hope you get some inspiration for it at somepoint! Maybe one day you get in the mood for a quarian and geth mod. Looking forward to the vehicle mod. I bet there are going to he a ton of vehicle mods thay come after it comes out. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers!

Obscuric

I hope like the above commenter suggested, that there is an option for highmates not to have them. I haven't been a fan of the whole catgirl trend in online communities, and I get that some people really enjoy it. I'm probably in the minority that is generally against it and think it detracts from games and communities but to each their own. Also, I know they're in the vanilla game but I just don't touch them and would prefer to continue not utilizing them. (Edit: this isn't meant as a criticism, just an opinion. I love the VE series and am appreciative of what the team has done and is currently working on!)

Mielga

do you have any intent on doing something about married sanguophages? maybe double deathrest casket or smthng because its very weird when you have a sang, that has a title in the empire, and you put him in the deathrest casket, he simply loses royal bedroom assignment and you start getting popups about his title needs xD

Red Lizard

Could there be multiple different random versions of Highmates, for example one having human ears red skin no tail, one fox ears orange skin fox tail and one cat ears blue skin cat tail? It would create variety while making the cat haters quiet.

I'm sure I'm just joining a chorus, but I'm looking forward to Vehicles Framework and Vehicles Expanded. Other than the big one though, I'm really waiting for Recycling Module as well as (further down the line) Diplomacy Expanded. I also want to say that I appreciate that you guys always keep your code (c# and xml) really clean, so it's easy to patch in my local games, for compatible purposes or just personal taste. Thank you!

Quantum

What? no dating sim expanded? 0/10 xD

Rhaenys

Noticed a few other people a little less excited for the cat girls and wanted to float an idea. I think the cat girls are fine but they feel a bit out of place on high mates. At least in my head cannon high mates are a bit more sophisticated, something more along the lines of a Bene Gesserit from dune. Would be neat if we could get a cat girl race that didn't have to be blue / purple to stick to the high mate template, could then give them specialties in cleaning or cooking, maybe some cute chocolate making or baking skills? Then when it comes to high mate they could lean more into the psychic bonds and perhaps they could even utilize 'the voice'. I would love to see them have their own religion or society, control the gender of their offspring, and maybe even bring in some sort of concubine system. Either way I'm excited to see what the team comes up with, just wanted to throw my ideas out there.

I am excited to see what Diplomacy Expanded will have in store for us. I love the mods with concepts that help to make the world / galaxy feel like a bigger and more robust place that we can interact with. As for the Rim-Effect Turian and Gangs mod, I am sad it's going on hold. I really enjoy the series of mods your team has made for this. And as DarenGC suggested, adding Quarians and Geth (especially around the Ultratech factions) would be exciting. That being said, with their lower popularity, I am worried they'll eventually stop being updated when the base game breaks them. By the time we get to 2.0, I imagine the list of mods to keep updated will be a real pain and tough decisions might needs be made. And if Rim-Effect mods are on the block, I'd almost rather not have them so I don't get heartbroken if they leave after being used to their tender embrace. I'm sure it'd also help with resource / time allocation for you. So while I love them, I hope you'll make the best plan for the larger strategic future while keeping your passion and mental health safe. And if that includes keeping the Rim-Effect series going, then that'd be swell.

Yuggie

ahhhhhhhhhh I am already twitching on how long I am waiting for vehicles in rimworld... since I firstly downloaded it I needed god damn vehicles! >:D My runs are gonna be interesting with panzers! I need god damn panzers! I NEED GHOST DIVISION! Also great work by your side! I love all of your mods and I have most of them but ones that I dont have are not less interesting or worse quality, it is just that I dont want my PC to turn in to nuclear power plant that does not have enough cooling power xD

John Anderson

For some reason most of the biotech new races don't sit well with me. A lot of them seem weird or want to be something without having genes that back up what they want to be. I really have enjoyed the photykin, hussar mods. Gennies....er... Well I love the skill enjoyment genes. ( To be fair I understand the gennies idea they just don't shine in a colony) I am really really excited to see what we're getting with highmates, sanguines, and lycanthropes.

DeeHasApples

I'd be very sad to see the Mass Effect series be discontinued. Since Biotech, there's been little non-human alien mods put out, especially of good quality, and not a lot of modders beat you guys. Also I was really looking forward to being sieged by a Turian ship hehe.

Will Vanilla Vehicles Expanded be save game compatible? i’m looking to start a new save today but i’ll hold off if i have to restart in a week

Computica

Bring on the Cat Girl Genes!

petter pølse

Does the stuff you say about Vehicles Expanded also apply to the Vehicle Framework? To clarify you say VE is in release candidate testing, does that mean VF is also in release candidate testing or are they not being developed in "parallel" so to speak?

Eyes

So I'm excited for the new mods that are coming out but I have one question: When are we getting the tools?
