A swell Monday (or Tuesday) to you all!

Initial draft looks great for this chapter. I've got about 22 scenes laid out. As I go through it more, that number might decrease or increase. Leaning more on decrease as this chapter is mostly tying things up and setting up things for Book 3.

Probably the most challenging part of this chapter is the "go steady" scenes for the romance options. Easy for the manwhore route, but trying to craft each scene so they all feel special and individual to the girl is my goal. At he same time also planning the party. I'm debating how well to contain it. During the home tour, we saw the various places things could be happening. The outdoors bar, the pools, some indoor areas. If you guys remember, that house wasn't the original house. I was initially going to use a much smaller home and going with this one added some opportunities. Learning from the Halloween party, I hope I can improve on this one better. Especially since the amount of characters is much smaller (I don't have to worry about all those background characters on the dancefloor and the crazy amount of Halloween props.).

My friends got me playing Palworld and they modded their server and saw this notification when the game starts.

I got some DMs when I announced I'd be doing a warning notice for when people modify Artemis' code (the game not the character lol). Some were concerned, "hey please don't block it. this one is harmless". Which, one: never said I was blocking mods. And two, changing variables is modifying the game lol. Which I've had some people complain to me about the infamous "Freeroam" bug, after which I come to find its due to people flipping variables they don't know what it does. But because it's default state is "False", surely that means it's gating something, right? The one that I got a few DMs about was the end credits not playing, where we see the photos MC and Kindra were thumbing through. Which I have zero clue how people fiddling the code fucked that up, lol. It's literally just text and a slideshow that plays after. But apparently modifying the game breaks that in some way.

Anyways, no. I'll reiterate it again. I'm not blocking mods, just giving those who do a heads up that hey, you start flipping switches (variables), you need to keep track of it because if something breaks, it's 99% likely because of what you modified. And if you're on Steam especially. Steam will back up your saves and the persistent file and re-download it back into your game (the persistent file is the curveball that will keep you saying "i deleted it but it still (insert bug here)", since that's where some important variables are stored).

When Artemis gets booted and it detects the code was changed in some way, you'll get a message like the one above in Palworld. Just a warning/headsup, because as you can see. I don't mind modding, but I feel people need to be reminded that they did something to the code and should consider that before reporting a bug lol. Which I want to say thank you all for keeping that in mind for CH7. The bug channel was mostly spelling mistakes and maybe one or two very minor bugs that were my fault. Everyone who did any modding did a pretty good job narrowing any bugs down to them modding. So, I think adding this well help people keep that in mind more.

Anyways, sorry for the long explanation lol.

Have yourselves a great week! (drink water and get good sleep!)

Thank you for being such a reasonable dev instead of a dik. 😉

Thanks for the DevLog👍😊

Artemis ♥😭. Hoping fingers crossed for a maximum wholesome chapter 8, weirdly I expected Kindra to be more impacted...

All fair. TBH maybe leave the mod detection until last as a stretch task? If players games are bugging out when they've modded it and they don't first try removing mods. Then I hold no hope for humanity ♥.

Jay… I say this with all due respect and without any awareness of context or your personal circumstances… but *that’s* your line? Unaware game modding is the breaking point for faith in humanity? Really?!! Actually, now that I think about it… [sigh]

BurntLimpet

Enjoyed your update, thanks for taking the time for us!!

I agree with jay. It seems to me he is not complaining about modding games but in folks blaming devs for issues with a game that occurs from modding. And yes humanity is broken. A large percent of people never take account for what we do wrong and blame everyone else, even when it is all due to our actions.

Thanks for the update! We are all a bit worried about the fate of Artemis, she has developed so well! But since she is the titular character, she will certainly accompany us until the end. I'm glad that you want to make the "Go Steady" scenes with the main love interest (if there is one, depending on the way you play) very special, it should just feel nice and satisfying. And otherwise, I don't know why someone should mod this great game? To manipulate character values? What is the point of that? But please, if you really want to do it, you should do it and then live with the consequences. Anyway, have a nice week! 🖐👍

It’s ok Artemis will be back for avengers doomsday

I appreciate and am excited hearing about the attention to the solo/steady routes. I may be an outlier, but I really enjoy the forming connections and building relationships way more than the lewd content. I see the lewd scenes as payoff to the MC for following all my instructions, but the real payoff for me is every single, "D'awww!" look an LI gives you when you tug her heart strings just right. To be clear, don't take the lewd content out, but THANK YOU for making content that feels real and enjoyable for players like me (big softies).

I agree that I don't see the point or the fun in modding right out of the gate. I will play a game through multiple times to get all the possible renders and endings I can, but sometimes, the choices aren't obvious. If I don't have a walk-through, I'll pop 0x52 URM in with path and choice detection and see what I missed. "Oh. Kissing her pissed her off this time? OK. Oh! Checking her out is good right now, but not two choices later? Got it." It's often not intuitive how to +=1 an LI. That said, by the time I'm considering flipping variables, I am scraping the barrel, and would be so deep into CTRL-Skipping I can't imagine trying to raise a bug report by then. I don't like any other mods, and don't like to risk corrupting my saves for future updates that expect variable to have sane values.

Yup, what Tom said. If you're modding a game, you absolutely know it can break them. The lack of self awareness blaming others [devs] when it breaks is crazy...
