Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 37, 2024) (Patreon)
Content
Hi there, welcome to your 37th update of the year of our lord, 2024. Sorry this one is a bit late - it's fair to say that things got a little busy yesterday. Sony's announcement of a new technical presentation from Mark Cerny meant that a strategic rewrite of my weekly blog for Eurogamer was required, but that actually ended up being somewhat timely, I guess. Any way, here's the piece if you missed it: https://www.eurogamer.net/digitalfoundry-2024-df-weekly-playstation-5-pro-is-incoming-so-how-should-sony-market-its-premium-console
We will be doing a DF Direct Special in the wake of the news later today, and I will be putting out a specific call for questions at the moment the stream ends, so be ready - I'm not sure there'll be more than an hour or two before we start to record.
So, let's talk about #content and the lay of the land for this week - and how things have switched up in the wake of the news. Let's go!
John is working on embargoed content until he heads off to Japan for this vacation. Can't say anything more about this but it's nothing to do with PS5 Pro or Sony at all. If the Pro is at TGS, however, he will be there.
Tom is working on coverage for Hunt: Showdown 1896 in the wake of Alex's tech interview on Sunday.
Oliver should be delivering his video on Bazzite running on Asus ROG Ally shortly and beyond that, the plan is to get him working on the Dead Rising Remaster as when code arrives. He's also going to be working on the Jedi: Survivor last gen release but we're not expecting review code for that (I will ask though)
Alex has a lot of prep work on the go as in tandem with the Jedi: Survivor last-gen release, we're also looking forward to the revised PC version. Sticking with the Star Wars theme, we're also preparing another Outlaws video which will - at the minimum - contain optimised settings and closest PS5 equivalents.
Rich (ie me) looks to be set on a week of admin duties and continuing to work behind the scenes on the benchmarking revamp. More progress is being made there on the video side of things, including a nigh-on complete reworking of the Adobe Premiere filter that renders our graphs. We are also working on more automated PC benchmarks in preparation for the Arrow Lake-S launch - we want to add F1 24, Baldur's Gate 3 and Dragon's Dogma 2. The latter two are going to require custom camera mods, so that's tricky!
Will is preparing for the great AMD CPU re-test - again in preparation for the Arrow Lake reviews - and has just completed the Eurogamer Space Marine 2 pieces.
Obviously a lot going on then. We're looking to stay on top of major releases - so we have Mohammed working on Final Fantasy 16 optimised settings/PS5 equivalents based on the demo. We'll double check that work with the final game once we've received it but we're not expecting changes.
Anything else you'd like us to look at? Comments are welcome!
