If you're subscribed to our YouTube channel and you're new to the DF Supporter Program, you may have come here wondering where our download version of the new Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PS5 Pro video is. Well, the link is below, but typically, we only post early access opportunities on Patreon. Our main site at digitalfoundry.net is the place to be for ALL downloadable content.

With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we received a seven minute, 80GB ProRes file - as good to raw capture as we're likely to get. Contrary to some reports floating about last week on Twitter, we aren't 'testing' PS5 Pro. We just got this file.

In common with the Mark Cerny presentation ProRes, we've done our best to preserve the quality of the asset from start to finish in our work. We've even tweaked the quality level settings to exceed the kind of bandwidth we'd usually use for our work. Bandwidth is allocated according to the required quality level and every frame is encoded to the same level of quality.

Anyway, here's the download and, yeah, remember that digitalfoundry.net is the place to be for regular, non-early access downloads: https://www.digitalfoundry.net/final-fantasy-7-rebirth-ps5-pro-vs-ps5-a-vast-improvement-at-60fps

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: PS5 Pro vs PS5 - A Vast Improvement At 60FPS

Thus far, the PS5 Pro footage we've seen has generally concentrated on games that already looked great on the standard PlayStation 5. But what about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth with its contentious, blurred 60fps performance mode? Based on footage seen here, we're looking at a 60fps presentation that's a huge improvement over the standard PS5 *and* irons out its performance drops. And in some respects, the footage suggests that Pro at 60fps even has advantages over the base machine in its 30fps quality mode. Oliver Mackenzie has much to share here. Brilliant! I dropped this on PS5 after around 20 hours. I was loving it but the IQ really was poor and I figured I'd wait for PC. PC it still is unless it's a bad port like remake in which case I'll grab on PS5 Pro when I pick up that console next year

VeryProfessionalDodo

Yeah, I get the weird feeling that I’m waiting for a PC port, only for it to be extremely poor and full of stutter

Peter

This is my fear.....with it being UE and all. I hope not as I would like to push things like object LODs out and shadow LOD. I don't hold a lot of hope....

Perfect_Organism

so this means…you’re testing the Switch 4 instead?

Vince

The difference between a graphics and performance mode in this game was like a night and day difference in visuals. This video is certainly encouraging!

Daniel

Couldn’t agree more with you. Looking forward to hopefully getting my detailed comparisons.

I could not stand this game on any of its 2 modes on the demo, so it was an easy no buy for me. Seeing it on the Pro will definitely make me reconsider.

Hi DF gents, new subscriber here but long time watcher - loving your videos! Quick question from me: how did you manage to get that PS5 Pro footage of FF7 Rebirth? Cheers

Damokalesa

Makes sense! Thanks for the answer

Kris

Does support the PS5 Pro M.2 SSD?
