It's been a long week, we have recorded DF Direct Weekly #188 and it is, as they say, a banger, but it may arrive a little later than usual. We've been busy!

So here's something to take a look at. Hello Games released b-roll of No Man's Sky running at 8K on PS5 Pro and we thought we should share it with you. We talk about it in the Direct and can confirm that - to the best of our testing at least - that it does indeed run locked at 30fps with consistent frame-pacing. Image quality is very, very good.

I'm not sure the YouTube embed above (which has resolved to 8K) shows that, but the download is well worth a perusal.

If you're wondering how how we can confirm the performance without capture... well, it turns out the Pro can downscale the 8K 60fps output to 4K 60fps and there are no frame drops. So while we don't have the spatial resolution, we do have the temporal. Anyway, here are the clips.

Having just played it on the pro for the first time, and for maybe the first time in over a year, I did notice the pop-in was still egregious.

Me watching this in YouTube’s finest Auto (360p) but more seriously how does one get 4320p to show up on YouTube? Max available says 2160p for me

It offers 4320p now for me, it could have been before it was available - it's normal for 8K to only show up a while after the video was uploaded and it might not show up at the same time for everyone either. Or you might be missing a prerequisites, my understanding is that Youtube only shows this option if certain specific codecs are supported in the browser. Try one of the long-established 8K video to eliminate everything but the browser. It may or may not also require Premium, not sure (and web searches gives different results).
