This one goes live a bit later today but all Supporters can watch now.

The introduction of DLSS 4.0 Super Resolution with its new transformer model saw Nvidia improve upscaled/reconstructed image quality to a dramatic degree - but we wanted to truly put the technology through its paces. Over the years of game testing on this channel, we've identified a number of scenarios where DLSS Super Resolution exhibits genuine image quality issues - and in this video, Alex goes back to revisit them. Does the transformer model fix some of DLSS's biggest pain points?

Really loved this one - thanks Alex - I think we have become so used to Nvidia producing what to me is basically the technical equivalent of magic when it comes to upscaling that it is easy to automatically assume new model = everything better!!111 I think there are some huge improvements in the Transformer model(s), but there is clearly a reason Nvidia has labelled it as a "beta" for now. While it produces a clear improvement in many titles, it's not yet as simply superior in all circumstances to just chuck the latest DLL and preset K into every game, the way we might've previously done with 3.8 and preset E. EDIT - pressed enter too quickly haha - AC Shadows is a great recent example. The first time I booted up that game I had already switched it over to preset K assuming it would be best, only to immediately notice a level of ghosting that made me go nah there's no way this is right. Reverting to preset E gives a slightly softer but far more pleasing image with significantly less ghosting, and it immediately made sense why Ubi had chosen that as the default over the newer models. The exciting part (imho) is how far they will be able to push the Transformer model(s) over the next couple of years - we saw major improvements in the prior CNN models over the years, and we're only just at the start of the Transformer model era (plus it sounds like Nvidia themselves think this will give them significantly more headroom for future improvements). Can't wait to see it evolve!
