Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 17, 2025) (Patreon)
Content
Hello there and welcome to the latest team update from Digital Foundry, delayed until past 4pm BST because... well, until then, we didn't know what we would actually be doing, but now we do - the Oblivion remaster is real, which we kinda knew, but the 'surprise that wasn't really a surprise drop' did happen which was not a given. So here's what's happening this week then.
John is back and he's working with Alex on what is likely to be the first piece of Oblivion #content. It's a variation on the Retro PC Time Capsule concept as John takes control of the freshly minted remaster running on a RTX 5090-equipped PC, vs Alex running the original version on period appropriate hardware.
Alex follows up this first look coverage by tackling how the game runs on a mainstream-specification PC and variants.
Tom is on mission for looking at the console versions of the game, with the original Xbox 360 version added into the mix.
But what of Oliver you say? As the header image indicates, he's going to delivering the Digital Foundry review of Forza Horizon 5 on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro, stacked up against the Xbox Series X version of the game. Beyond that? Well, in theory, Days Gone Remastered should be arriving at some point!
Rich (ie me) almost feels like an RTX 5060 Ti review is perhaps pointless, but I will be taking my existing work and integrating it into a review based more on the anti-benchmark concept we've discussed in DF Direct Weekly. Yes you'll have your benchmarks and value calculations, but how about RTX 5060 Ti vs PS5 Pro? Results there are certainly intriguing. How about some gameplay tests on RTX 3060 Ti vs RTX 5060 Ti covering performance, frame-times and latency? I doubt benchmarks will tell you much different than the reviews already out there and you don't need me to tell you again that the 8GB version shouldn't be considered, so I'm going to see how the anti-benchmark concept works out. I'm pretty pleased with the results so far. AyaNeo 3? Still want to do it. And I want to track down a Strix Halo unit!
Will is handling our Eurogamer work - as usual - but also including some of his adventures in small form-factor PC building.
We're also looking to cover Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, but we've not been sent any review code. This will likely happen next week now - a bit of a shame, but I never presume we have any particular right to review a new game ahead of time - and it's not as if we've been short of things to do.
Do feel free to share comments and suggestions but in the meantime, have a lovely week.
