In the latest DF Direct, Rich and Alex share their hands-on experiences of the Xbox/Asus ROG Ally X and non-X, while the team react to Epic's Tim Sweeney seemingly laying the blame on developers for sub-optimal Unreal Engine 5 games. Alex discusses a couple of his favourite SIGGRAPH graphics presentations. Finally, John's massively enthused by Shader Glass and is here to tell you why.

A bit odd to hear the DF crew report on a leak it’s patently obvious none of them have watched the video for to get the detail before speculating on said leak…

Yeah fair point. We picked up on the discussion just before the Direct was filming but we've removed that segment from the public version.

Well I would say (using my 30 years experience flogging this lovely tat), I don't think MS have any plans to sell a great number of ROG units. At least they won't have high expectations. I think it's part proof of concept, part usage data and finally an opportunity to look at real world Windows optimisations. They can then roll these out on later hardware. Obviously the Xbox badge gives ASUS a little marketing edge over the competition, so it's win win for them both. In terms of what it does, it was what I expected, and also I am a little bit disappointed. I was hoping the integration may have exceeded my expectations. But I will probably still get one, citing work reasons....I need one for research. Also why doesn't it have an actual Xbox Series directional pad, why is the Xbox button not round, who fudging designed it? You need a seamless visual identity across all hardware. Something tells maybe MS came on board a little later.
