Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 37, 2025) (Patreon)
Content
Hello there and welcome to the latest weekly update from the team at Digital Foundry, penned directly in the wake of our Monday morning #content meeting!
First of all, many thanks for everyone who completed the survey over the weekend. We're going to leave it open for a few more days but as things stand we have around 5,500 responses which we consider to be a phenomenal result. I know a lot of people weren't happy about the ranking system used on a few of the questions - or not happy about the ordering - but looking at the results, there's nothing here to suggest any distortions on the outcome and ranking is necessary for us to get a firm idea of the priorities of the audience. We're also looking to completely reboot the commercial side of the business and the data here is invaluable in talking to the right clients and the right things.
But it's all about the #content, so here's what is cooking:
John is working on embargoed content that you won't see for a while, before heading off to the Tokyo Game Show. We're also now getting plans together for DF Retro Direct Weekly - one of the key things we wanted to talk about when we went independent!
Alex is on our big Switch 2 DLSS video. We'll be looking at a range of games to discern the characteristics of Nintendo's version of the upscaler. Is it just DLSS 3.1 as reported? What is this "DLSS Lite" stuff and does it bear out under scrutiny? Is Hogwarts Legacy's decidedly non-DLSS like presentation actually DLSS? This may not be completed this week and if/when Borderlands 4 PC code turns up, there may well be a pivot.
Oliver is looking at Unreal Engine on Switch 2. Fortnite (yes, finally!), Split Fiction, Cronos, Hogwarts Legacy - let's see just how many of UE5's next-gen features have been observed in a Switch 2 shipping title thus far.
Tom will be taking a look at the console versions of Cronos but really we're waiting to see what the score is with Borderlands 4 review code...
Rich (ie me) is making good progress on Strix Halo! This is quite exciting - it's the first time I've been able to benchmark a mobile APU using our discrete GPU benchmarking suite and as you can see in the example above, it's actually in the PlayStation 5 ballpark. Beyond that, I'm very curious about GeForce Now 5080. I'd quite like to do a full review.
Let me know what you think of that line-up and feel free to suggest any topics - big or small - you'd like us to consider. Have a great week!
