Content Sponsored by Bitdefender. This video was mostly produced in June/July and finally went live just now. This is the last piece of sponsored content from the IGN days.

Windows 11 ships with Windows Defender anti-virus by default, but to what extent - if any - is gaming performance impacted by the more feature-rich Bitdefender? Our CPU benchmarks are taken with Windows Defender active by default, so we re-ran the tests with Bitdefender installed on a brace of mainstream processors - AMD's Ryzen 5 9600X and Intel's Core Ultra 5 245K, both paired with 6000MHz CL30 DDR5 memory.

I must say, I really enjoyed this type of content. It’s definitely better than the Nintendo Zelda snafu. I love all of the good content you make and this was helpful even if it’s not super impactful for someone with a big i9 who is basically always GPU bound. Your regular content focused on specific sponsored devices or software works great for me. If you could get an Intel sponsorship and talk about Intel GPUs or Intel CPUs and how to create a small form factor PC that’s got low power usage for places where power prices are expensive or if you’re living somewhere where you’re power constrained because you generate your own power off the grid that would work as a great example of Intel CPU efficiency or something like that.

If it's sponsored by Bitdefender this isn't going to be harsh on them I reckon 😉

The brief was pretty straightforward and when you look at the granularity of the data and the fact that Bitdefender isn't always faster than Windows Defender... well, I'd say the results are sound.

Carl Thomas

I have no doubt it's all sound. You folks wouldn't put your reputation on the line for a sponsored spot, it's your most valuable asset. The point was more that they wouldn't have commissioned it if they were expecting poor results, apologies if that wasn't clear!

Now I fully understand the reason for going indie. IGN were blocking the Manscape sponsorship weren’t they? Time to fire off that email, DF are back in business!

BespokeEP

Well ya, typically a company isn't going to pay for you to do a comparison if they aren't confident in their own product. Bitdefender would have likely done all these tests themselves prior to paying DF to do a comparison video

BespokeEP

I love when PC bro's make fun of us console peasants for having to pay for online, all while seemingly forgetting that they have to pay for virus protection... And a virus protection subscription doesn't grant you 3-4 free games every month :D Console Masterrace for the win haha

ConcreteLlama

There are plenty of advantages consoles have over PC but paying for virus protection ain't one of them. Windows Defender is included and is "free". Bitdefender, as with pretty much everything else on PC, is an option. PC = flexibility, higher ceiling, console = convenience, ease, consistency. Also man we really gotta stop using the term "master race".

Thomas Hargreaves

If you get games with a subscription then they aren't free.

BespokeEP

The sarcasm has seemingly gone over your head

BespokeEP

Well it is when you get over $1200 worth of games for $80/year

BespokeEP

Is windows free? And aren't they also turning windows into a subscription service similar to MS 365. They've been talking about it for years

André

Funny that the sponsorship result is “use either” 😅

Now THIS is the kind of Sponsored content I like. Let's go!
