The New Digital Foundry Website Is Now Live - And Patreon Supporters Get Instant Benefits (Patreon)
Content
Hi everyone, it's Rich here with a new update on our plans for independence! In our announcement video, we talked about the idea of a retro podcast and the DF Retro Super Show is now live! We also discussed how the buyout included the rights to all of our written work previously hosted on Eurogamer and how we wanted to make a new website.
I'm thrilled to announce that the website is now live, with friend of Digital Foundry and ex-Ars Technica writer Sam Machkovech joining us as Website Launch Editor!
The new site does indeed contain the entire back catalogue of Digital Foundry content as promised, but the focus is obviously on adapting the new work we do to best fit the medium. You can read our introductory post laying out the philosophy behind the new site, along with our partnership with the incredible Hookshot Media who've made the whole thing possible - but this post is all about the new benefits to Patreon supporters enabled by the site.
Let's get straight to the good stuff. The new digitalfoundry.net login is directly linked to your Patreon account, meaning that if you are a member of the DF Supporter Program, you gain key benefits.
First of all, all paid members get a fully ad-free experience.
Secondly, all members - paid or not - can comment on articles and post on our forums.
Thirdly, all paid members are highlighted as such in forum and article posts.
As I write this, we have over 11,000 Supporters, so the idea of creating a secondary login system exclusively for the website does not really make any sense. Additionally, we are very, very keen on recognising and expanding our existing community - a community that literally makes Digital Foundry as a business viable.
That's the key reason why are enabling ad-free access to all paid Patreon tiers - we want to make it a community-led endeavour. We aren't going to chase SEO results, we aren't going to "over promote" our content with clickbait headlines, we aren't going to copy-and-paste other people's work - and we're taking a measured approach to ads, even for unpaid users. If you value that approach and our work in general, please do consider the paid tiers.
Also, please do check out the mobile version of the new site. We know how miserable phone browsing can be and we've put a lot of work into it.
There's still a lot of work to do and a lot of ambitions to fulfil as we look to make Digital Foundry everything it can be, but today is an important step forward - we hope you love the site! And yes, please do check out the site forums and let us know what you think. And if there are issues (there are always niggles at launch) please post there with your feedback - or leave a message below!
