Coming This Week to Digital Foundry (Week 51 2025) (Patreon)
Content
Well, I say week 51. There are two more Mondays before we barge into 2026 proper, so maybe our week counts were inflated by one for the entire year. Nonetheless, here we are this is what we are working on in the next week-and-a-bit before we take a break. After the break, I'm pleased to reveal that - similar to last year - Alex and Oliver will be making their presence known on the CES show floor in early 2026.
Let's get straight to the #content updates then.
Alex shared some initial thoughts on FSR Redstone in DF Direct Weekly #244 and will be carrying out further testing on the update for release later in the week. He's also very keen on looking at the promised patch for Monster Hunter Wilds that addresses 8GB VRAM issues. Will it be the same technique used in his own DirectStorage-removing tests from a few weeks back?
John has completed the first part of his Xbox 360 retrospective. I watched it yesterday and I think you're going to love it. It'll go out to Retro Tier supporters shortly and will be released publicly before the end of the year. Also going public before year's end is the current Retro Tier exclusive DF Retro episode, based on Unreal. More work? How about his traditional Game of the Year video. He'll also be guesting in some of the Direct-style videos we're planning to round out the year.
Oliver will be piling into the Direct-style multi-cam videos we want to produce - for example, a five-year lookback at the current generation - but he's also putting together an inside look at Assassin's Creed Shadows on Switch. This is based on conversations we had with the developer last week.
Tom is working on our full Skyrim Switch 2 review, then pivots over to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. We have PS5/Pro code, but I'm reminded that due to no review code leading into a packed December, we never looked at the Xbox series either. Now we can sort that.
Rich (ie me) is finally unpacking the Win GPD 5 for potential inclusion in our upcoming Hardware of the Year video, which I'll be working on with Oliver and Alex. I'll be leaving early for this year on Weds, but may well still appear in the last DF Direct of the year that we'll be taping on Friday.
We're also planning discussion videos such as a look back over five years of the current console generation, and maybe filling in the "missing" DF Direct slot with a trial for how a bespoke Q+A show might look like.
But that's where we are for now, and I'm looking forward to stepping back over Christmas to have a good think about what Digital Foundry looks like in 2026. The core fundamentals won't change, but our agenda for doing more and doing better remains front of mind, while there's also an eye towards workflow efficiency improvements and doing more for both Digital Foundry the channel and Digital Foundry the website.
As usual, please feel free to suggest anything for the channel - feedback, potential projects, anything!
